Unspoken Truths is book five in the DI Gus McGuire series, best read in order. Let me start by saying what a prologue and opening to this story. Pretty dark, grim and gritty! Captures the reader straight away and pulls them in. Well written and fast paced.
So we made it to book five and boy does this book have it all. Several cases. Alice in prison. Beast from the east and things get personal! Back to the familiar team and DI Gus. How will he cope? Can he solve everything he has to face? Bound to keep the readers attention between the pages alongside Gus and his team, wanting answers.
I throughally enjoyed it. A well deserved four stars. Highly recommend. A brilliant series. Will we be pushing our luck for a book six or is this the end?
This series, which has always been good, has reached new heights with the fifth instalment, Unspoken Truths. Liz Mistry is a tremendous writer, and this book, set against a backdrop of the Beast From The East, grips the reader from the very first moment. Gus McGuire is a fascinating cop and he is faced not only with tricky crimes to solve and the worst of the English climate but with the lives of his close colleagues. Already waiting for book 6!
Take a plotline that contains murder, torture, kidnapping, biological terrorism and MI6 add to that weather system dubbed " Beast From The East " and what do you get ?. You get one hell of a book.
Follow DS McGuire as he follows a trail of murder and espionage from Bradford to Manchester and onto the wilds of Saddleworth Moor.
Gus must rally himself and his team in order to carry out their work load, which sees the body count rise as swift as the weather front that is moving in to deliver its deadly load. They have to find what connects the victims in order to track the monsters who seem to take pleasure in the act of torture and death. The disappearance of Gus' brother-in-law adds further complexity to the enquiry.
Once a connection is made it becomes a race against the weather and the killers to bring about a conclusion and see justice done. Whilst all this rages on the outside DS Alice Cooper is imprisoned and as charges seem to mount and appear to be real she must face up to the monsters that surround her on the inside.
The camaraderie that the team share not just with each other but by extension between their families gives the book a depth that makes it not just a good book but a great book. Liz does not slow down the thrills as you gallop through this fast paced thriller which grips you from the first page. A book I devoured in two sittings as I could not and did not want to put it down. Her books just get better and better. Thank you Liz keep up the great writing.
