I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was an informative read about how to use fabric panels in quilting. The pictures were beautiful and the directions clear. I liked how the author gave tips as to what panels work well when quilting and which to look out for. The only thing that I didn't like was that to complete the projects in the book you would need to purchase the panels that were chosen by the author. This could put this book out of date rather quickly as these panels are no longer available. Overall this was a good book for quilters looking to expand their skills.
I've tried my hand at some pieced quilts in the past and was very interested in this technique using panels. Multiple techniques for enhancing, embellishing and altering panels are shown. My favorites were the more natural scenes (heron, poppies, landscapes) using mainly thread painting and quilted patterns in the backgrounds, but Hughes also covers adding embellishments such as crystals, sequins, lace and more. She also shows how to add 3-D fabric elements which add fun detail and texture. I love learning new ways to express my creativity and expand on the hobbies I'm already involved in.
Thank you to Joyce Hughes, Fox Chapel Publishing, Landauer Publishing LLC and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. All comments are my own, unbiased opinion.
