Despite the hype (and Lord knows there was TONS of it), I somehow managed to delay reading this wonderful and truly beautiful DEBUT novel. I don't know if y'all caught that, but I did say DEBUT novel. I'm still so blissfully shocked that these amazing words -- these epic, emotional, needed words -- were penned by a newcomer.

Guys, seriously BELIEVE the hype. I don't mean to go all Stefan here, but this book had/has everything: it'll make you laugh out loud, it'll make you cry, it'll make you want to CHANGE THE DAMN WORLD and give you ALL THE FEELS and then some. I seriously cannot believe what an impact this book had on me. I legitimately have HUNDREDS of highlighted passages that I plan on revisiting again and again over the next few days to write a better/more proper review that this charming contemporary deserves.

These characters will feel like your siblings/confidants/friends by the end and I just truly wish everyone would pick this bad boy up and see what a stunning story McQuiston has conjured up. While parts of the novel were predictable and (at the end of the day) probably unrealistic, so much good was bursting from the pages that you're forced to overlook it and just join in on the cheesy celebrations.

IF you have been sleeping on this grin-inducing novel like I was STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW and pick this up! Seriously stop reading this and go purchase this book/borrow it from a library/hit up a friend/do what you need to do to get this into your hands ASAP.

History, huh? <3 <3 <3

This is hands down one of the best books I've read this year-proof of that is that I couldn't help but read it in ONE SITTING! It's hard to believe that this is a debut title because the author believably and expertly writes these characters, their relationships and romances, and the complexity so well. I'm anxiously awaiting her next book, that's for sure.

This book was so awesome! I loved everything about it. So fantastic. I loved Henry and Alex’ relationship so much. I mean, how can you not love the son of POTUS hooking up with the Prince of England! I especially loved the letter/emails the sent each other, along with the quotes and tidbits of history. There’s a side story relating to the election that was also intriguing and I liked a lot. I have tons of highlights and quotes. I absolutely recommend this book!!!

“Should I tell you that when we’re apart, your body comes back to me in dreams? That when I sleep, I see you, the dip of your waist, the freckle above your hip, and when I wake up in the morning, it feels like I’ve just been with you, the phantom touch of your hand on the back of my neck fresh and not imagined? That I can feel your skin against mine, and it makes every bone in my body ache? That, for a few moments, I can hold my breath and be back there with you, in a dream, in a thousand rooms, nowhere at all? “

Easily one of my favorite books this year. I’m obsessed, OBSESSED! I have so many highlights I can’t even. This was beautiful, and perfect. This couple was goals and this story was amazing. Absolutely recommend!

Alex leads a busy life as the First Son of the United States (aka FSOTUS), an aspiring politician, and a senior in college. But he still finds time to maintain a feud with the handsome, youngest British prince. That is, until their rivalry turns into romance. And once it does, can they keep it hidden from their families and, more importantly, the media?

This book is ridiculously charming. The romance is so swoon worthy, the characters are hilarious, and the plot is super engaging. I seriously wanted to be friends with everyone in this book. But even more than that, this book was the bright spot that I needed as someone living in DC and waking up every morning to discouraging, enraging, or downright ridiculous news out of the Trump administration. Is this book believable? No, definitely not. But it's a world that I want to believe in, one where a progressive divorcée from Texas with two brown kids could take the White House, overcoming the prejudice of the nation and doing her damndest to make a difference. Alex's view of American politics is so hopeful and full of promise that things will work out in the end, which is something that's hard to believe right now. Red, White & Royal Blue is the happy ending we desperately need in times like this, and it's sure to make you smile.

What a delightful, fun, emotional-rollercoaster of a read! The perfect beach read (why did I think this was YA?) that has witty exchanges, romance, really well-developed lead characters and a completely fun list of excellent side characters. It has a little bit of everything to offer, from a wide range of characters, a love story, politics, a scandal...kept me hooked until the very end.

Loved this book! I'm always a fan of a royal romance, but this one had a fun new twist. I finished this one off in a single delightful Sunday.

This is an unabashedly, exuberantly romantic wish-fulfillment romance with a political overlay, in which the President of the United States elected in 2016 is a woman from Texas, and the elderly, conservative Queen of England is named Mary.

Queen Mary has two sons and a daughter; the heir is Philip, the spare, the handsome, enigmatic Henry, whose unflappable British elegance and poshness gets under the skin of First Son Alex, a bi-racial college student determined to go into politics himself.

Prince Philip gets married, an event that requires heads of state to attend. Alex uses this opportunity to needle Henry, causing a spectacular wedding cake malfunction (a cake that cost 75 grand) that is a publicity nightmare. As a result, Alex and Henry are required to participate in friendship photo ops to demonstrate that there are no problems here, no sire!

And Alex, who never does anything by halves, goes from enemies to lovers as fast as a rocket launch.

Cheered on by his sister, June, a brilliant journalist, and his best friend Nora, who is a brilliant computer and statistics tech.

The banter just crackles with wit and verve, showcasing the sophisticated skepticism of millennials--but when romance happens, it's heart-on-the-sleeve time . . . while Alex's mother is beginning the re-election race against a smarmy bigot.

The characters are delightful, the prose pungent, funny, and full of poetry. Quotes from lovers of the past are a highlight, as is the feel-good ending. These days of exhausting high anxiety, a wish-fulfillment romance is by no means a bad thing.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this early copy!

I tend to avoid steamy novels but I really wanted to read this one and liked how McQuiston did not go over the top with the sexual content. This was insanely cute and I will be reading more from this author in the future! I cried a lot during the end so that made me give this an automatic 5 stars.

Make Red, White & Royal Blue your next beach read and you won't regret it. This book is full of amazing characters and a wonderfully adorable and steamy romance. If only there was an awesome female president in real life and everyone was as accepting as the people in this book, it would be even better. One can dream. This book is a treat and perfect for all my fellow romance readers out there.

What a wonderful summer love story! A Prince and the son of the President of the US fall mindlessly in love for each other. Shelve this on the Moms-I-Love shelf and LGBTQ shelf!

This review (with some editing) will be published on my blog on June 24th, 2019--------

This one was very cute. I loved the romance. It went a bit fast, but I, admittedly, am a demi so I am aware that I'm the "weird" one here. Absolutely adored the text message and email transcripts. Sometimes it can come off gimmicky, but here it felt just right and I almost wish there was more.

What I didn't like was how much politics there was.
Okay, no, not like that.
I'm aware of the current state of the US and all these laws and rights that are being trampled upon. Especially on the LGBT+ community and people of color.
The parts that focus on those areas are fine.
However, the main character loves politics and has been planning on going into them since he was about 12. Roughly half the book is about politicking in general not just specific aspects. Unfortunately, is a subject I find very tedious. Not to mention, this takes place in an alternate universe where the 2016 election was won by a woman (Not Hilary). It just tugged at my heart in a "what could have been" sort of way. A yearning for it and it just made me sad. (Perhaps that was the point.)

Overall, aside from being very fast, I thought the relationship played out nicely and mostly believable. It was a cute love story, that also gives us an alternative 2016 that I wish we could have had.

This novel is getting all the best reviews and for a very good reason! It's funny, heart-warming, maddening, lovely, heart-wrenching, beautiful... I could go on! This was a total emotional rollercoaster and I can't wait to hold an actual physical copy in my hands to read it again! I fell in love with these characters and how they grew together. Can't wait to hear more from this author!

What could I possibly say about this book that hasn’t already been joyfully shrieked by my friends? It’s fantastic and you will feel fantastic after reading it. The end.

This is a charming story and there were parts of it I really loved. I loved the quirkiness of the characters and the imaginative writing. Each character was just quite vivid and they came alive in my imagination.

I found the political aspects of the story to be really slow and boring and so on the whole it wasn't a great read for me. At 40% I was ready to give up and I was wondering about all the raving reviews and what people had seen that I hadn't. Then the pace of the story changed and at 60% I was enjoying it. I loved the ending and the way the story builds up but on the whole it wasn't gripping enough for me.

I love this book!! Fun, escapist romance with angst, laughs, and everything in between. I grinned and cried in equal measure, and never wanted it to end!

Red, White and Royal Blue has it all - romance and royalty. Alex is the son of the first woman president of the United States, Henry is the Prince of Wales and they hate each other. But hilarity ensues, they are forced together, and voila - pure magic.

I highly recommend this book - it is a great read.

Normally, I don't read books with male protagonists or romances, but this got recommended so many times that I decided to go for it. Not only did the story paint an alternate near history of the US where a biracial woman is elected president instead of Trump, but the writing was also incredible. I laughed so much. Would definitely recommend.

I got an e-book from Netgalley, but it was released before I could get too far into it so I decided to go ahead and buy my own, physical copy. I think this was the best choice for me as it’s a bit of a longer book and I like having a physical copy when that happens. But anyway – Red, White, and Royal Blue is about Alex (First Son of the United States – his mom is the president) and Henry (a Prince of England). The two are kind of “enemies” when the book starts, but they grow to be friends and then become a couple. Of course, they try and keep their romantic relationship a secret because Henry can’t be out and Alex doesn’t want to mess up his mom’s re-election.

I thought this was a really great book. It’s definitely a bit long, but I never found myself growing bored. It did take me longer to read than most books though, just FYI, if you’re not the quickest reader. I really loved both Alex and Henry. I thought their relationship was really good for both of them. I liked how they could be open and honest with each other, and that they often showed affection by insulting each other. Red, White, and Royal Blue was a really funny novel too, especially concerning Alex. There are love emails in the book too and these will surely make you swoon! The book does have a lot of politics, so it’s not just a romance. This didn’t really bother me, but again, just an FYI in case you didn’t already know.

Also, this book is an Adult novel, not YA. Nothing is terribly explicit when it comes to their physical relationship, but it’s probably more detailed than most YA. Oh, and the secondary characters are fantastic; from Alex’s sister, June, to Nora, the vice president’s granddaughter to Henry’s sister Bea, etc. All in all, I really loved this one and I’m glad I bought my own copy!
