This is an amazing book. I loved the plot twist. I couldn’t figure out who was the one responsible for hurting Meghan. I read a lot of thrillers and usually figure it out pretty fast. This one kept me guessing until the end.
A gripping page turner with with plenty of suspense. I was guessing at the outcome the entire storyline and was still surprised by the final twists. The plot and characters were well done. Medical aspects of the story were believable. The author’s writing technique was clear and concise with plenty of descriptive details to make you feel like you were in the hospitals, hotels, ICU, etc. right along with Meghan and Becky.
Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced reader’s copy of this excellent book.
Meghan is a healthy, active and lively teenager who begins to weaken and feel sick meanwhile doctors can’t find anything wrong with her. Her mother is accused of having Munchausen Syndrome by proxy and believed to be making her daughter ill......but is she really? Or is something else really going on? Where does Dad stand on all of this? Are her doctors trying to really help or do they have their own motives for dragging her illnesses out?
Once you begin reading you’ll be hooked. Fasten your seat belt, it’s a great ride.
Even though the subject matter of this book made it hard to read at times, I couldn't put it down. Well written believable story. The twist at the end was a real surprise but one that made the book that much enjoyable in my opinion.
It has taken me awhile after I finished reading Saving Meghan to write this review because I couldn’t decide if I liked this book or not. The story started out very slow. I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters because everyone is flawed. That being said I enjoyed the writing style in that the perspective changed with every chapter revealing insight into the story from every point of view. The story made me question how I would react if it were my child and spouse. I was a little let down at the end of the book because I felt there were still questions to be answered. I received a copy of this book from St. Martins Press through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Saving Meghan was slow to start for me. I had the pleasure to be given the chance to read this ahead of its release! This book kept me guessing till the end. Becky’s daughter Meghan is sick, and all points to one thing but as we know in a lot of books, especially good books a lot of times things are not what they seem. Great book, thanks for the opportunity to read and review and I will be looking for more from this author.
Saving Meghan is a story about what lengths a mother will go to, to save her child.
Meghan has been mysteriously sick. Her mother has taken her to one doctor after another and has never been able to get a true diagnosis. Every test has come back as nothing and yet Meghan is still getting sick.
Meghan's father is tired of all the tests and starts to accuse his wife of putting this illness into their daughters' head.
Certain events happen that will make you question the mom, the dad, the doctors and more.
It took a while for me to figure out who was the culprit and who Meghan can trust.
I was so apprehensive the whole time I was reading this book. Can they save Meghan? What’s really wrong with her? Does she have a disease or is someone making her sick? Delve into the minds of 2 very different parents, explore their upbringing and decide which one is correct in how to solve the mystery of a sick daughter. My heart broke for these people and the ways each one handled their daughter and her illness. It’s quite obvious the anguish any parent goes through in trying to help a sick child, but can it ever be enough? Or is it possibly too much? This novel gives us quite a bit of history into medical diagnosis and treatments offered, as well as hospital bureaucrats. Riveting to the end, with a big reveal that you don’t see coming. Just read it already!
This was a quick read. The story is about a highschool teenager who plays soccer, with a loving mother and father. Pretty typical stuff, right? Except, Meghan gets sick, she has no energy, something must be wrong, or is whatever she has self-inflicted? Is someone else making her sick? Is Meghan's mom making her sick on purpose so she can take her to doctor after doctor for the attention? What is going on? What is causing Meghan to suddenly grab her stomach in pain and see blurry and pass out? I enjoyed the way this story was written, when I got to a certain point, I just had to finish. #savingmeghan #netgalley
I received an advanced copy of this book on Netgalley.com. Thanks to Netgalley.com and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review.
Meghan is sick. No one knows why. All are looking at the mother, who seems to want nothing more than her to be terminally ill.
This is not your average sick child melodrama. D. J. Palmer has written a story with twists and turns and an ending that I didn't expect. The story is told from multiple points of view without getting lost in details and doesn't get bogged down in medical jargon, a rarity in medical based dramas. The story is more than a medical drama, it a suspenseful page turner that doesn't disappoint.
This is the first novel I have read by this author. It was fast paced in some parts and slow moving in others.
I read the ending several times because I am still not sure what happened!
All in all an. Entertaining read.
What a roller coaster ride! This book was full of twists and turns and a totally surprising ending. As a medical professional, I have encountered women like a Becky. This story kept me engaged from page one. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
D.J. Palmer has written a “ripped from the headlines” story of a mother’s strong love and battle to find the answers for a mysterious medical problem with her daughter Megan.
From the encouragement of her online friends, to the deviousness of a medical doctor in cohoots with Megan’s dad and dealing with Children’s Services taking parental control, Megan realizes the only one truly trying to save her is her mother.
I love medical dramas! This book will keep you up. It really makes you question the mother. You won't be disappointed! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
An entertaining medical thriller. Although a little too slow paced for me until the end when the twist was revealed. But all in all a decent novel that should appeal to a wide audience.
I teuly enjoyed how different this book was from all of the other thrillers out there. The twists and turns kept me flipping the pages all the way through the unexpected conclusion. Definitely worth reading!!
This was an interesting read that was perhaps too long. Issues within the storyline I felt became at times repetitive. The mystery aspects of the story became for me obvious halfway through the book. I guess that is because the obvious is rarely how a story turns out. But it was an enjoyable book as a quick read.
If you love medical mysteries, this is a must read. It begins a little slow, but don't loosen your seat belt. It is a roller coaster ride all the way through with unexpected twists and turns. You think you can figure it out? Not this one! Recommend.
I have really mixed feelings about Saving Meghan. Typically, I really enjoy medical thrillers, but this one didn't quite work. It had lots of twists and turns designed to keep me guessing, but the ending just doesn't cut it. I didn't find the protagonist to be believable or even probable when finally revealed.
Saving Meghan is an interesting and compelling read that left me gripping the pages until the very end. As a reader, I love unexpected endings that I don't see coming and this is exactly what I got with this book. I look forward to reading more from the author in the near future!
What could cause a healthy girl to become sick? That question is at the heart of Saving Meghan. 15-year-old Meghan now suffers from a myriad of symptoms and illnesses. Her mother Becky takes her from doctor to doctor, but no one provides a conclusive diagnosis. Becky is obsessed with getting help for Meghan, and she can be pushy, rude, argumentative, and flirty, depending on who she is dealing with in her quest to get what she wants. Carl, Becky's husband, and Meghan's father is at the end of his rope. He is cold and distant with Becky and with no medical answers, he begins to believe that Meghan is mentally, not physically ill and Becky is her enabler.
There is a lot going on in this story. As Meghan's condition worsens, the subject of Munchhausen by Proxy is explored and people start to question Becky's obsession with her daughter's health. I didn't 'like' Becky, but I did change my mind about her motives several times. I would be sure Becky was harming Meghan, then something would happen and I was sure Meghan really was sick. There are numerous twists and turns and I didn't guess the ending. I don't think there was one character(except for Meghan) that I didn't consider at one point or another as not being above suspicion.
This happened to be the first book I have read about someone being ill, but no amount of medical intervention could provide any answers. This hit close to home as I went through a similar situation( though not as a teenager). It took four years of endless doctors and tests for my issue to finally be uncovered and treated, so I did empathize with Meghan and the fact that answers are not always easy to find.
This is the first book I have read by D.J. Palmer and I want more!
I received a DRC from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley.
