This book is standard "seize the day" motivational fare and I found the device of using a story to illustrate a hack to become tedious towards the end. I also believe this may be aimed at an older audience since there seems to be a disconnect about why Millennials spend so many hours working. Boomer authors seem to think this is a choice rather than a broken system that relies on under-staffing and over-working to reward shareholders.
Very good book. I found it interesting and insightful. I hope to incorporate some of these learnings in my day to day life. We are all living in a world that is go go go. We have to learn how to get back to putting ourselves first. No one is cares about you more than yourself. This book gives you tools Help make that happen.
I love reading self help books that focus on productivity, so I wasn't really sure if this book will give me any new information that I haven't read before, but I really appreciate all Sam's anecdotes and exercises. The book taught me some valuable lessons, I've read it a few weeks before the New Year's and I've being applying some of the techniques on the book ever since.
Someday Is Not a Day in the Week covers much of the traditional life-improvement ground such as writing down what makes you happy and what doesn't, but with some new concepts and exercises (such as the "happiness interview") and options for people with different modes of thinking and action. Also, the author's "voice" is friendly and warm, encouraging readers who don't like to be pushed while providing motivation.
Great book. I have learned how I can be more playful, purposeful, and passionate about my life, not someday but now. This is the book to give you that push. I was truly inspired and decided to make big changes.
What a refreshing alternative to all the other "live in the now" guides out there! I consider myself an "advanced student" on this topic, and wasn't sure I'd gain much from another such guide, and was pleasantly surprised, I thought I was living my best life and focusing on my goals, when in reality, I probably knew in my heart that I'm not making my passions a priority on a regular basis. Sam Horn's guidance lit a fire under me, particularly with the new yer only a few weeks away!
What I appreciate most about her approach is the way she breaks life down into chunks, and peels back the veil to show the reader how we are waiting for Someday to arrive. She provides small, achievable tips for how to go after what you want each day, without necessarily feeling like you're making a huge drastic change. There are several exercises designed to walk us through evaluating our happiness and see how we're actually spending our time. The author uses casual language and personal anecdotes, along with examples from other people in her life, to demonstrate the concepts she is describing.
I can't wait for this book to come out in physical form so I can have a copy and gift it to friends!
I received an e-book copy of this title from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
A self-help book that teaches the reader about the importance of prioritising. What is really important in your life? What are your priorities? What makes you happy? Why aren't you doing the things that make you happy? The author suggests that you should evaluate your life and employ the "hacks" that she has devised in order to be more satisfied with your way of living - now, not "someday".
It's very readable and full of real-life stories that illustrate the author's points. Worth checking out if you need something to help you kickstart changes in your life.
Many people have something in their lives they hope to achieve someday. This book is a blueprint for those seeking to achieve their goals today.
The author introduces 10 life hacks, which are steps to help change your life. By following the life hacks, hopefully readers can make the desirable changes in their lives. The conversational tone the author uses throughout the book makes it seem as if the author and the reader are together.
The author uses her own experience, a year on the water, to explain the life hacks. She blends her experiences, along others’ real life stories, to demonstrate to readers how they can change their lives today. The personal stories are well chosen and bring the life hacks to life.
Each life hack is discussed separately. The real life stories bring the life hacks alive. After reading other people's experiences, the reader will feel empowered to try to employ the life hacks in their own lives.
The combination of the author’s personal experiences along with the examples of people who changed their lives adds validity to the life hacks.
Interspersed throughout the book are excellent quotes from famous people and celebrities. These enhanced the book at introducing a concept or reiterating a point.
The visual aid of the 10 life hacks is great for visual learners. It also is an excellent technique to keep the reader focused on the life hacks. It is a perfect tool to allow the reader to focus on the life hacks and the process of incorporating them in their lives.
This book is a solid 5 stars out of 5. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a blueprint for making life changes.
Sam Horn delivers an easy to read, actionable gameplan to making a map to getting you out of procrastinating and how to take action. What and how to take the steps necessary in our current high speed world to stay focused on tasks and see results.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher St. Martin’s Press for this awesome motivational book in exchange for an honest review! This self-help book encourages you to assess how you spend your time and make a shift to doing the things that you value and make you happy! It is full of life hacks, motivational quotes and insight to help you figure out what is really important to you.
The author asks the question, are you spending your time aligned with what you value? I am a self-help book junkie and this one is refreshing and written in a fun and engaging way! It offers tons of ideas from journaling to meditation to help you shift your mental attitude and open your mind to more FUN!
Being a small business owner and mother of four, I am always overworking myself. Advice on how to slow down and focus on me a little more is something I think we all should do!
“Action is the antidote to despair!” -Joan Baez
“For fast-acting relief, try slowing down.” -Lily Tomlin
“I wish everyone could get rich and famous...so they will know it’s not the answer.” - Jim Carrey
I was inspired by many of the quotes in this book.
This will be featured on my blog Sunday November 25th, 2018. My opinions are all my own.
This is a great career book, very inspiring. It boosts your motivation. We must not wait for Someday...it teaches you to act now.
Thank you for this ARC.
I have two favorite self help books, The Secret By Rhonda Byrne and You Are a Badass By Jen Sincero. Now, I have three favorite self help book including Someday Is Not a Day in the Week. Every chapter and section of this book was easily relatable and easy to connect with the advice Sam Horn gives throughout the book. Before reading this book, I was one of those that thought Someday i'll try this or I'll get to it Someday but as Buddha says what if someday never comes and all you'll have is regret. Now, I am inspired to make someday today and even while working start on one of those things that got put off as someday while we think we have all the time in the world but the truth is we don't and thanks to this book, I think I'll try those things right now!
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. We will definitely have a home for this book in our Self-Help section at our library. That is why we definitely give this book 5 stars.
3.2/5
Someday is not a Day in the Week was a wake up some people needed.
This book allowed me to re-think and re-plan the future, for we can only have now and next.
Reader would find some questions & exercises to formulate 'what's my next?'
The 10 hacks are also easy to follow, however, one should take some dedicated time to ponder all the hacks. Some might already achieve few steps and do not need the rest, etc.
Whether this might work or not is entirely to the reader.
