This book really kept me guessing until the end. I loved the character development and their different perspectives. Very entertaining read!
This preview has me hooked. Can’t wait to read the rest of the novel! I love the setting, I can vividly picture the street in my mind. The characters are interesting and I’m excited to learn what happens next
The excerpt was intriguing and Lisa Jewell knows how to write a good story so I promptly bought the book so I could finish!
I loved this book, as I have done with all of Lisa Jewell’s novels. I love how she has grown as an author and how her writing has changed so much since the days of Ralph’s Party. These more recent novels are more intriguing, crime related passionate stories with so much going on. This was one I couldn’t put down. The story focuses on the going’s on in one street and the main character, joey, who is a bit of a mess since her mum died. She is newly married and moved home to live with her brother and his wife with her new husband. She develops a crush on her neighbor, a local school headmaster, who it turns out has a lot more to his story than we can imagine. We also follow two teenage girls and their relationship between each other, their parents and friends. The headmasters son is a complex character who is charming and lends a lot to the overall story. Don’t forget though, there’s a chilling aspect to this book and when it all comes out, a rather sad undercurrent. I did start to guess what would happen as it unravelled, however it was seriously gripping and I could envisage it all playing out in my head. This would make an excellent movie or drama. Another great Lisa Jewell novel, you won’t be disappointed.
This is just an excerpt, but it intrigued me enough that once I finished reading this sample, I immediately put it on hold at my library. Joey moves back home, with her new husband, after the death of her mother. They stay in her brother’s spare room and she becomes obsessed with his neighbor.
My final book of 2018 🥂 🍾 was another Advanced Readers Copy. Thank you @atriabooks!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Lisa Jewell is an amazing author. I’ve read several of her other novels 📕📗📘. Here’s a little about her latest, Watching You, 👀 👀 that was released on December 26.
Imagine a neighborhood 🏡 🏠 where everyone is just a little creepy ⚰️ 👻 and secretive 🤫 in their own way. We learn early on that there’s been a murder ☠️💀in this quaint, nice neighborhood🏘🏚. Jewell leaves us to question ⁉️not only who was murdered 🤷♀️, but who did it 🙅🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️?!?!
Event after event 🕐🕗🕜throughout the novel 📚 leads the reader to question ❓every character. Each one of them is a suspect👉🏻👆🏻👈🏻...or were they the one murdered 💀☠️??
Overall I feel it was a great suspense/thriller. I always enjoy a Lisa Jewell novel. My only drawback on this one was that it was a little predictable 💭. I’ve enjoyed her others more so than this one.
Here’s to more books in 2019!!!
Love Lisa Jewell books and enjoyed this easy read - plenty of characters and a light read.
Read in one day!
Omgosh. I cannot wait to get my hands on this full book. Reading an excerpt was not enough. I’ve read Lisa Jewell before and loved her writing. Watching You is looking like it will not disappoint me, or other fans. Thank you Netgalley for the preview.
In the neighborhood of Melville Heights, it seems neighbors are watching each other. For some, it is a harmless hobby, but for others it is a dangerous obsession. The plot revolves around the neighbors watching each other. The characters were fascinating and unique. What I loved most was how Lisa Jewell slowly revealed nuggets of information so the reader can begin to figure out who is guilty. It is as if she gives you all the pieces to a puzzle and the reader has to put them together.
The plot moves quickly between present day and the past. This is a great “edge of your seat” read that will not disappoint Jewell fans.
I liked this book but the copy I got off here was only until chapter 4.. wasn't too happy with that. I will not fully rate this book until I am given a full copy of it.
Well, now I have to read the whole thing! I didn't realize this was an excerpt at first so I was slightly disappointed I wasn't able to finish this, but it's definitely hooked me and I will be adding to my TBR now. I love Lisa Jewell!
I was captivated by this story quickly, although I was only given the excerpt to review. I have already purchased the book to see how it continues. I have read her work before and this one does not disappoint.
Hang on for the creepy, suspenseful ride.

Read this excerpt and I’m definitely curious what happened. I’m not sure I like the vibe of people watching other people, it kinda creeps me out. But I suppose that’s the point. Interesting enough start to keep me reading to find out what happens.
I will defiantly be putmrchasing the book after reading the excerpt. Thank you for giving me the chance to read this
I read a short excerpt that was intriguing but limited. Lisa Jewel has previously written enjoyable novels and I look forward to reading a complete version of this one in the near future.
EDIT: I purchased the full book after reading the excerpt, I loved this book so much more than my previous reading by this author.
The beginning:
Dear diary,
I think I'm in love with my English teacher.
So begins this crime.
We open on a crime scene, a victim (for most of the book unnamed), a tussle, and a date. What follows are the events leading up to the crime, including snippets of police interviews with those characters who may or may not be involved, but whom all have their lives affected. All leading up to a crime. We have a teacher and his family, great reputations but questionable pasts and questionable actions. We get to watch the past and present collide. And we have to confront our own preconceptions about the characters.
The reader is reminded that we cannot judge people and their actions out of context. All of it leads to a tragedy that we can see coming. But what we see is fuzzy and out of focus until the end. Events are strung together by more than what we know and what we think we know.
We are left asking ourselves: How do we judge, and misjudge, others? Can we know what others are experiencing? Are we careful of our own preconceptions?
I truly enjoyed this more my previous book by this author.
Lisa Jewell does not disappoint yet again! I was sucked into this book and couldn’t put it down. I liked the characters and the plot. There was a boy with Asperger syndrome story line that made it okay to have this label which is so nice to see. Although I figured out who did the crime before the end I really enjoyed it. Loved the writing style with a mix of police interviews and different character perspectives. I wanted to keep on reading this and felt satisfied with the ending. The short chapters made me push on because of course I have the me for just one more!! Loved it ! Will recommend to my friends and book club!
Thanks NetGalley for this opportunity to read a great suspense/thriller.
Having only been given an excerpt of this book, I will keep this short. Even a small glimpse into Lisa Jewell's new book was impactful enough to make me go spend my own money on this. I went directly to Target where I bought this book and was unable to put it down. Goes to show even a glimmer of a book will make people go out and buy it, even if they asked for the title before the release so they can share it with their followers to bring in a larger audience with their review! Thanks for taunting me enough to go spend my own money, but let's be honest, it was totally worth it for an author like Lisa Jewell!
Great book with a great storyline. Not what I was expecting at all so was a nice surprise. Easy to read and good characters in there too.
This was just an excerpt but from what I read it sounds like it will be another good one. I read a book by this author last year and really enjoyed it so I am super excited to read the full book sometime soon!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. This was a great excerpt, I can’t wait to pick up the full novel.
