Love her books! Edge of your seat .. can’t put down.!
This excerpt makes me want to keep reading.
I made a mistake and downloaded this believing it was the entire book. :) So, I didn't read it and will do so when I have the complete volume.
When I requested this book I had not noticed that it was just the first four chapters. From what I read it appears that this could be a fun read.
I only have the first four chapters of this book in this excerpt but so far the book is pretty creepy and I want to read more. It starts with a murder and then we go back in the past a bit to learn about a woman named Joey, who has a scary crush on a school headmaster. He seems interested in her also. I've checked the book out of the library and will be writing a review of the entire book, on Goodreads, Edelweiss, and Amazon, once I've finished with it. Thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for this ARC excerpt.
If you’re from a small town where everyone knows everyone, then this book may feel like home! Every town has their gossip mill. But how much can you really believe? Maybe you actually have to watch. After all, seeing is believing right?
There are a lot of characters in this book, so I recommend using a notebook to keep track of you aren’t used to this.
This started a little slow and confusing, but over all a great mystery to unravel.
I only received an excerpt of this book, so I cannot give a full review. The main character of this book is named Joey. Joey moves in with her brother and sister in law after a whirlwind wedding and death of their mother. Joey finds herself becoming obsessed with her brothers neighbor Mr. Fitzwilliam. Mr. Fitzwilliam is the “princiapal” of the local school, however Fitzwilliam may not be who he seems.
Thanks to NetGalley for the 4 Chapter excerpt. I've never read any of Lisa Jewell's books but oh my gosh! I'm definitely going to check her out now. I have a love/hate with excerpts as if it's good, I just want to keep reading! I'm definitely going to be buying this book. A great thriller who-dun-it!

I need to keep reading this book. The excerpt was AMAZING and can not wait to get my hands on the whole book. The author did a fantastic job with the first four chapters and I know the rest of the book will be equally amazing.
I received an ARC of the first 4 chapters of the upcoming release by Lisa Jewell, Watching You. I am a huge fan of Lisa Jewell and devoured Then She Was Gone. This new book is written in Jewell’s mesmerizing style and you are immediately inside her characters’ lives and mysteries. I was intrigued by the newlyweds drifting apart, the pregnant yet withdrawn sister in law and of course the dead body! I am giving 4 stars based on the very beginning - but it may become a 5 star as I get further access to the plot and things come together more. All opinions are my own.
Wow!!! This one kept me guessing and was such a well-crafted story! There were some twists I saw coming and others that snuck up on me, but even when I knew what was coming, it didn’t feel like a letdown because I was enjoying the story so much and had fun trying to put together the puzzle pieces. By the end, almost every character revealed themselves to be different than I originally thought; some better, some worse, and I especially loved the character development of Freddie.
These first 4 chapters definitely piqued my interest and I'm excited to see where the rest of this book takes me! Can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the entire thing!
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!*
Full disclosure: I LOVE Lisa Jewell's writing. As soon as I started this title, I was hooked. While there were a couple parts that were a little slow, the whole time I wanted to know how our characters would connect, who did what, and how things could get so out of hand! I enjoyed reading each characters' perspectives as that was the only way to get the full story. I can't wait for Lisa's next works!
After reading this excerpt I'm looking forward to reading the whole book. When Joey spotted Tom in the diner l wanted to be able her to just keep going, ( I like the name Alfie Butter )
Everyone watching everyone !! A whole community of sneaky people makes for a good mystery.
This story doesn’t reveal itself in the classic
murder who dun it; everyone is a suspect and possible victim until late in the book. I had so very little trust in most of the characters and spent most of it assuming their guilt and in the end it was nothing like I imagined.
A fast paced and easy enough read; I would recommend!
Thank you for my feee copy!! This is my honest review.
"Watching You" by Lisa Jewell is a very promising psychological thriller, set in Bristol in England. It begins with an investigation of murder then quickly moves on to the central character, daughter of the victim, Josephine (Joey) Mullen. What’s great about it is you immediately start to get a picture of the impulsive and rather fanciful Joey who is currently living with her new husband, Alfie, in her brother's and his wife's beautiful home - a house in Joey's favourite street. In these opening chapters, several other characters in this book are being well developed and you start to get a feel for their different personalities. The suspense as to where this may be going next is beginning to build, along with a suspicion that secrets are being kept. When Joey notices one of the neighbours, headteacher Tom Fitzwilliam, she is fascinated by this handsome fellow that everyone seems to like. Is Joey developing an obsession for this charismatic, mature man?
I am very much looking forward to how the different relationships develop. I have read some of Lisa Jewell's novels before and I particularly enjoy her easy-to-read writing style.
I loved reading this excerpt and I will definitely be reading more from Lisa Jewell. I can't wait for a copy of the rest of "Watching You!"
Thank You NetGalley and Atria Books for the excerpt of this book to review.
This brief excerpt contains so many hooks:
A dead body
A quick affair leading to a fast marriage that turns unsatisfactory
An obsession with a mystery man
This was enough to hook me and the abrupt ending drove me crazy! My copy is in the mail and I can’t wait to finish it. Looks like another good read from an author I respect. Way to flirt with readers. It’s hard to say much more given that I only got a brief excerpt.
I haven't had the pleasure of reading this entire book yet. This review is based on an excerpt and is only a first impression. **Book Excerpt Review**
I have been reading reviews about Watching You by Lisa Jewell everywhere! Each review I read just made me want to read the book even more. I was definitely not disappointed. From the first line, I was immediately intrigued and drawn in to the story. Joey is obviously flawed. I get the impression that one man will never be enough for her. Tom, also flawed, is a ladies man. Coincidence? Probably not. Don't these two seem made for each other from the start? Regardless of whatever may happen, I see them together. Then, there is the idea of living in a place where all the neighborhood can see you. This is a foreign concept to me. It feels like an uncomfortable way to live. Obviously, someone knows what happened. Will this someone tell the police? How does this play out? So many mysterious aspects to explore!
I love Lisa Jewell, and I think she’s a brilliant writer, but this novel fell a little bit short for me. It begins with a bang and captures the reader’s attention right away. The author kept me intrigued throughout the novel until about three quarters of the way through. At that point, it began to feel repetitive and I started to lose some interest. Nevertheless, I really did enjoy this book. Lisa Jewell is a brilliant storyteller who keeps her readers captivated through an interesting storyline, drawing them deeper into the adventure of the novel. Even though the last little bit was disappointing, I would still recommend this book to any thriller enthusiast.
An enjoyable excerpt. I loved the description of the setting and the initial obsession and intrigue surrounding the neighbour. I’d definitely be interested in picking up the rest of the story, and imagine it would be one I couldn’t put down!
I thought this was the full book not just an excerpt. Waiting for the full novel from the library! I've heard great things and can't wait to read it!
