This cover completely drew me in and the caption on the cover – wow! This book was a gripping thriller from beginning to end. A young girl attends a NYE party, and a couple months later finds out she is pregnant but has no memory of how that could be possible? Not very much of a memory from the NYE party night in question? A recipe for a great psychological thriller for sure!
While reading this book I couldn’t help but feel so bad for Abby. She has been through a lot in her young lifetime and appears to be a lovely young woman, and then to find out she was pregnant and has no idea who the father could be or the night it could have happened? For sure a big nightmare! She is desperate to find out what happened that night as her memory is spotty at best, and is desperate to fill in the blank holes of that night by asking several people who were also there that night what they can remember and tell her about that night in question.
Piece by piece she gets little glimpses and answers of the night in question and is able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to get a little understanding of what really happened that night. She still has a lot of questions that remain unanswered though and is desperate to find out the complete truth.
Strange things start to happen though and she becomes suspicious of many different people. She receives flowers and other gifts from an unknown person, and she gets spooked out. Who would be sending her these things? Is the father of her baby doing this? And who exactly is he? Why can’t Abby remember?
Terrified to leave her house, as she has no idea if she is being followed and watched at all times. She is not sure who she can trust. Can she trust her sister and her brother in law both whom she lives with? Can she even trust Danny, her best friend?
Overall I really enjoyed this book and the suspense and thriller aspect of the book. If you haven’t read this book yet be sure to add it to your TBR list. Hope you enjoy this book!
First, I want to thank Karen Cole, Quercus Books, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you with this review.
Karen Cole’s book Deliver Me is unlike any other psychological thrillers you have read before. Karen did an incredible job thinking up a new and fresh storyline. She is definitely an amazing story teller!!
I will admit what got me first interested in reading it was the cover. It is adorable and perfectly represents me and who I am-a big kid at heart. But when read the description I was blown away! Phycological Thrillers are my ultimate favorite books to read.
So many stories within these main stories that Karen could do a few spin offs of a few of the characters.
My heart broke for Ellie whom lost her baby during a miscarriage. Now her sister Abby is pregnant by a man she can’t remember the name to or the night in general.
It seems as if this whole book is like a scavenger hunt for Abby to find Ellie. Plus, what happened at the party from her family on Columbus Day Weekend.
Karen is an incredible writer with a lot of amazing great books.
When Abby Brooke seeks out the help of a doctor, she can’t believe the news when the doctor tells her she is pregnant. How is that possible when the last time she had sex was over a year ago? Counting backwards she realizes around the time she got pregnant Abby was at her best friend, Danny’s, New years Eve Party. A Party she barely even remembers. She does remember drinking tequila shots to get over her shyness, but after that she does not remember anything else. Abby asks Danny for his help needing to know who was at the party and who may have taken advantage of her when she was drunk. While searching for the man who did this to her, she starts receiving anonymous gifts and notes, someone knows she is pregnant and has been watching her every move. Someone who is desperate enough to do anything to ensure she has this baby.
I really thought the premise of this book was great. I love a good thriller I can sink my teeth into while trying to find out who the culprit is behind the story. While I enjoyed the main part of the story, I found the characters not easily likeable and some of the things they did pretty frustrating. Abby doesn’t exactly come out and say she was raped even though she does not remember anything about the night in question. Maybe she does not want to believe it at first? I don’t know, but I found it to be out of character for any woman who did not consent to sex to behave this way. Abby started to do her own detective work and was borderline harassing different men who were at this New Years Eve party which made her come across as a bit nutty. Of course, I did feel bad with what she was going through, but I did not like the steps she was taking to find out the truth. For this reason, I felt that I was never really able to warm up to Abby.
The pacing of the story was really good and I was kept guessing until the end as to who is behind Abby’s pregnancy. I had my own ideas for pretty much the entire story and to be honest I was kind of shocked that I was wrong. What I thought was predictable wound up being so much deeper than I thought. The best part of this story for me was the mystery and there were definitely a lot of red herrings thrown in to keep you on your toes.
Deliver Me is a good mystery that will leave you guessing until the very end. It is an easy read that you can breeze through in just a few hours. While the story did have its issues, it was still an okay read for me.
When Abigail Brooke (Abby or Abs) visits the local doctor and discovers that she is two months pregnant she can't believe it because she claims she has not had sex for over a year. Ever since breaking up with her boyfriend Ben and moving in with her older sister Ellie and brother-in-law Rob she's been concentrating on her job while licking her wounds. When she counts backwards from her EDC, she guesses that something happened on New Years Eve. Abby was at a party and got super drunk and can't remember much about the evening and she sure doesn't remember having sex with anyone. Could she have been drugged and raped? So starts this psychological drama and mystery -- Abby is determined to find out what happened that night and WHO is the father of her unborn baby.
Although there are some twists along the way, most readers will be guessing madly as each "suspect" is accosted and questioned about that evening. NO SPOILERS but I don't think the identity of the baby daddy will be too much of a surprise though the red herrings are dangled throughout.
This was an OK read but I got rather annoyed with Abby and can't say that I was very empathetic or that I identified with her. The other characters are stereotypical and one-dimensional for the most part. The narrative had a lot of internal angsting going on with Abby dithering about and going off half-cocked most of the time. The conclusion was not unexpected and I wasn't really happy with how it all ended after all. I've not read other books by this author and I could be persuaded to give her another go.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quercus Publishing for this e-book ARC to read and review.
Wow! I didn’t plan on reading this book in one sitting but that’s exactly what I did! So many twists and turns in this psychological thriller! I knew from the blurb that it sounded like a good story, but it turned out to be much more than that!
Abby discovers she is pregnant, but hasn’t had a sex in over a year. None of it makes any sense until she counts back and realizes she can’t remember anything about a party she attended on New Year’s Eve. Who was she with? What did she do? She and her friend, Danny, set out to discover what really happened that night. But then Abby starts receiving strange gifts…supposedly from the father.
As they go down the path of “did we sleep together that night” type of investigation…they discover so much more. One person leads to another and so on. When the truth finally comes out…man oh man!!!
An amazing psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end!
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in an exchange for an honest review.
Well-written characters that you able to relate to and who make you feel for their situations. There is plenty of suspense and mystery in this book to keep you wanting to turn the page. Thank you NetGalley!
Great first book by this author. Although a bit slow to start for me was glad to keep going and found the storyline scary as you never know where this could happen
Join us on the book tour on 1 November for our review. Gripping and compulsive reading.
Loved this one
I read this book in one sitting. I couldn’t help myself. I was riveted from the first page to the last. I thought so many times that I just KNEW what was happening .. just to find out I was wrong. When I finally did know what was happening, I was furious, and scared, and hopeful, and then sad.
I’d genuinely recommend this book to just about anyone who wants to stay up until the wee hours of the night to finish it. It’s that good.
Wow. What an amazing novel. Kept me hooked from start to finish. Didn’t want to put it down! Full of twists to keep the reader guessing.
Boy does Abby get a surprise when the doctor tells her she's pregnant- and then she realizes that she's been abused while unconscious at a New Years Eve party. As she's dealing with THAT, she starts to receive creepy gifts. Who raped her? Who is stalking her? This one has many twists and turns. Never think you know what's going on- and no spoilers from me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a fast paced read- and it's darn good.
This book will have you gripped from the very first page. A truely addictive read that will have you willing the time away until it can find out what happened.
Abby has been feeling unwell for a little while and eventually decides to go to the doctors. After a consultation she discovers the shocking news that she is pregnant, even though this is impossible as she hasn’t been with anyone for over a year. Despite this she realises that she is in fact expecting and the only explanation is that something happened to her at her friends New Years Eve party !!!!
The story continues with Abby going through the list of potential suspects who were at the party ........ could someone have drugged her ? What other explanation is there ?
I have to admit this book kept me guessing right until the very end. There are many twists and turns and you will definitely find yourself addicted to this page turner !! A great psychological thriller with a brilliant story and some great characters.
Thank you to Quercus Books and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.
This a highly addictive psychological thriller.
When I read the description I couldn't help but request it, and it even exceeded my expectations.
A word of warning once you start reading this novel you will not be able to put it down.
The plot is pacey with likable characters.
There are lots of twists and turns and I was happy that I couldn't figure who the culprit is, his revelation was quite shocking.
I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a thrilling and thought proving psychological novel.
Thanks for Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this novel, and I am looking forward for the author's future books.
Abby attends her friends New Year’s party and gets very drunk. So drunk in fact that she is now pregnant and can’t remember having sex.
What happens is Abby suddenly finds herself with a stalker who is leaving her flowers, and gifts, and Abby is terrified. But who is the father of her baby?
I thought I had this sorted. Oh, it’s this one, or the other one. Definitely. I got the end with my mouth wide open. How did I miss the clues? How did Abby miss the clues?
This is an easy 4 stars that keep you twisting and turning all the way.
Actually 4.5 Stars
This book took me all round the houses and back again. Just when I thought I had it all sussed, the author threw in another curve ball that had me re-thinking once again. That said, when the truth finally came out, it did all fit perfectly... with the power of hindsight.
Abby is feeling a bit run down so she eventually goes to her doctor and is more than shocked to find out that she is pregnant. This can't be as she hadn't done the deed for over a year since the breakup with her ex. But all the tests she takes and the doctor can't be wrong. And then she remembers that night, the day following the New Year party she attended, how hungover she was. The dates fit. Something must have happened at the party. But who was she with, who did she talk to? She can't remember so she asks Danny, her friend, and host of the party. Maybe together they can figure it all out. But then Abby starts receiving strange messages and gifts, allegedly from the father...
And so begins a hotch potch of an investigation as Abby gets more and more frustrated trying to work it all out. As you can imagine, it's a bit of a sensitive subject all told, especially when you factor in that Abby currently lives with her sister and husband who have been trying and failing to have their own baby for a while now. Oh what a tangled web she finds herself in.
As the book progresses, Abby and Danny go down their list of potential fathers and the two of them try to narrow down the field. It's not quite as simple as "did you sleep with my friend at my party?" type investigation but sometimes, to varying degrees, it kind of boiled down to that as they whittle them all down. One person leads to another as more of the picture starts to develop and the finger points to many people on its way to the truth.
And what a truth when it eventually all comes out. Oh My! But none of that here for fear of spoilers. Suffice to say that I was well and truly shocked!
I loved that the author led me a merry dance through this book. How she took me one way and then completely about faced me. And how I duly followed her every step of the way. But, in all that, I never felt cheated as a reader like I have with other books that have duped me. Once the truth was out, I just sat back and applauded her for a job well done. As I am a voracious reader of this genre it takes a lot to pull the wool over my eyes. Very very cleverly done.
I did think that the main character did act foolishly quite a lot along the way. Obviously, never having been in a similar situation to that faced by Abby, who am I to say how you are supposed to act, but I thought she maybe should/could have done some things very differently. But then again, if she had, that wouldn't have made for a very interesting read and the book would have been over way too soon.
All in all, a cracking read that held my attention nicely, kept me guessing throughout and left me satisfied at the end. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
This is one of those so called “thrillers” that annoys. The letters and flowers and phone calls with a predictable culprit, a weak female lead and a whole lot of unnecessary nonsense before a barely there climax and a crappy ending! It’s over, that’s the best part of this book.
Thank you Quercus Books and Net Galley for an early copy of Deliver Me. Totally shocked me at the ending. Never expected it!!! Could NOT put this gripping book down. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!!!
Deliver Me by Karen Cole is a mesmerizing psychological thriller about a young woman who finds out she is pregnant even though she insists that she hasn’t had sex in two years!
As she counts back to when this must have happened she realizes that she was at a New Year party where she got extremely drunk and needs help from the other guests as to what happened. She finally convinced herself that she must have been drugged and sets out to find the rapist.
Through the story that follows we are introduced to most of the party guests and are thrown several red herrings. I fell for all of them and the ending took me completely by surprise.
I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read more from this author. I highly recommend the book and thank Quercus books and NetGalley for letting me read this advance copy.
I give the book 5 stars.
An excellent psychological suspense thriller which kept me gripped right from the start . I love a book where I’m kept guessing who the perpetrator is right up until the last few chapters, and this was exactly what happened with this book. Highly recommend.
Amazing book! Couldn't put it down.
Was hooked all the way through. Really enjoyed this book!
Would really recommend this to others
Great work
