Good start to the Crimson Point series. We meet Beck who has just returned home from the military after years of service and is trying to adjust back to life as a civilian. He's taken over his father's remodel/contracting business when his Dad became ill. He's brought in mostly Vet's, several who were on his team. Coming home also means seeing Sierra, now the town Vet and her brother is Beck's best friend. Sierra has always had a mad crush on Beck but he's never seen her as anything other than the little sister. Little sister is all grown up now and catches his eye. When things do spill over with Beck and Sierra, the steam is wallpaper peeling. One of Beck's employee's who has a TBI has begun to have behavior problems that have been worsening by the day. His wife is a good friend of Sierra's and she confides in Sierra the behavior changes that are taking place. After the final straw and Beck is more than accommodating, he's forced to let him go. There are a couple of sub plots, the young neighbor girl who likes to sit on Beck's porch, and Beck ends up adopting a rescue dog due to her influence. That's a plot twist as well and along with an unknown narrator who gave me the creeps a couple times, there are several threads in the plot line. The best way to hurt Beck someone decides is to hurt his woman and the story takes yet another twist. Didn't see that coming.
Great start to a series, we get a sneak peek at the next book involving a new gal in town and Sierra's brother who is the town sheriff.

Former SF Captain Beckett Hollister has left the military after a final mission left him concerned about his orders that he had to follow that no longer felt justified to him. He and needed to go home to Crimson Point. He needs to think about his future, to spend time with his father, who is dying, and to keep the family construction business afloat. Beckett knows he will be seeing Sierra Buchanan, sister of his best friend. He has long had feelings for Sierra, but has never acted on those feelings. Woven into this story is enchanting Ella, a little girl who lives down the street from Beckett. Ella has rescued an elderly dog, Walter, who was abandoned. This adds such a heartwarming touch to the story as Ella somehow guilts Beckett into rescuing Walter. But there is danger ahead for Beckett as an unknown enemy, from his past, will come after him. He will deal with this enemy, but when they come after Sierra, all bets are off. Beckett knows he will do whatever is necessary to protect Sierra. I very much look forward to the second book in this series. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Beckett was a green beret and one of his missions went bad. When he gets the news that his father is ill, he decides to leave the military and help his dad. Now he runs the construction business that renovates homes. Sierra is Beckett ‘s best friends little sister and owns a veterinarian clinic. She has always had a crush a Beck but it’s moved way past that stage. Beck holds her at arms length because he has to much baggage and doesn’t think he’d be good for her. But the past catches up with him and he must save Sierra because she’s the only light in his dark world.
A real tear jerker, have tissues nearby. Sexy. Talks about the lives of a couple of other characters that I hope we get to hear more about. I loved Beck and Sierra they were both strong and loving people. Also an old, floppy eared dog.

A great beginning to a new series!! The best friend's little sister trope is a popular storyline these days so I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it or not. Well I have to say I loved this one.
Beckett Hollister, a former Special Forces captain, trying to come back to civilian life just broke my heart! It is so difficult to imagine what these soldiers have to see and do in the name of our country. We start the story with some of the hard decisions Beckett had to make which affects him to this day. And to add to that, he is informed that his father is terminally ill. He was ready to return home, but he realizes that home is where his ultimate forbidden fantasy is. Sierra Buchanan, his best friend Noah’s little sister. He has been fighting this attraction he felt toward her for awhile now, but now that he was home, he just could not stay away.
Sierra Buchanan has known Beckett for years, they were like family, so she is confused of why he was distancing himself from her. There is a bit of the unrequited love trope going on here. Sierra has had feelings for Beckett for as many years as they have known each other, she has compared him with all her relationships so they never go very far. But with the way Beckett has been acting towards her, she knows nothing would ever come of it.
But as time goes on, things change between the two. An incident involving his little neighbor acts as a catalyst to show how protective Beckett feels towards Sierra and in turn the walls around his heart starts to crumble. Then when Beckett’s father turns for the worse, Sierra is there as his anchor and he finally feels the first sense of peace in a long time. And to add even to all this, his past comes back to cause even more trouble with Sierra possibly put in harm’s way. She was now his and he would do anything to protect her.
I have to say the suspense portion of their story had really kept my attention, I was so sure I knew who the “baddie” was so it was quite a surprise when all was revealed. I did feel like there is more to come.
There were also so many touching moments in this story, not just between Beckett and Sierra, but also between Beckett and his little neighbor, Ella and the little senior pup Walter. These scenes made Beckett so much more swoon worthy. I loved the comparison between Walter and Beckett; both had aches and pains and both were described as grumpy, it was actually very cute. The chemistry between Beckett and Sierra was both sweet and sexy, once all the walls were down they could not keep their hands off each other. To be absolutely honest, it did take a bit too long to get to this point.
Overall, this was a great read, I felt so many emotions reading Beckett and Sierra’s story. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Noah Buchanan’s story sounds awesome.
Thank you Netgalley and Kobo Writing Life for the complimentary copy of Fractured Honor. All opinions are my own.
Sierra has loved Beckett for so long, a little longer than he knew that he loved her probably. Their relationship is sweet. There is suspense in the story too that made me cringe.
After all these years, Kaylea Cross’s paramilitary romantic suspense books are probably quite an institution in this small corner of the romance fiction market and it’s always exciting to step into a new series Cross begins.
‘Crimson Point’—as exotic sounding it might be—doesn’t really refer to some deliciously mysterious conspiracy theory or some covert military operation despite the very posh-sounding CIA-type name for a series, but rather, the small town where military vets come back to and find their own HEA, with a slight dose of suspense woven into their stories. It’s sort of a departure for Cross given the more contemporary romance focus but there’s enough drama to keep me occupied throughout as ‘Fractured Honor’ deals with an older hero and younger heroine, with the forbidden sister of the best friend trope coming into play here along with the introductions to the supporting characters and potential pairings that will be written into her future books.
Beckett/Sierra’s history stretches over years, though neither have been available throughout their lives (the age-gap probably contributes to this) for this to happen, along with the part where neither Beckett nor Sierra are sure of themselves and their feelings they hold back from each other. Still, Cross writes about two fairly relatable and likeable protagonists who ultimately, do decide to fight for each other without too much pushing and pulling, even if I’m not sure I particularly understand why the best friend’s sister is always a forbidden trope unless the male protagonist is an utter arse, which Beckett certainly isn’t.
All in all, it’s quite an emotional read, though the heartbreak is spread out amongst the individuals in the story that we’re introduced to, so much so that I thought Cross’s attention on the supporting characters—much more than usual—did take the pedal off Beckett/Sierra quite a bit which I hoped to have more of. The resulting slow burn did get frustrating at times, but as an establishing book, ‘Fractured Honor’ does well in weaving in the potential complications to come—there are sufficient hooks after all, to keep us coming back.
FRACTURED HONOR is the first book of the new "Crimson Point" series. This one is a little different for the author, as it takes the protagonist out of the battleground (to the aftermath, actually). It is a romantic suspense story that highlights the seen and unseen wounds of war. There are so many twists and turns in this story that it is one read late into the night page turner, at least it was for me. Just when I thought I had figured out where the danger was coming from, another event would point in a different directiondirection.
The novel is nicely written so that it felt as if you were right there as each encounter, confrontation, or situation unfolded. For a suspense book the sense of place is written like a small-town story where you can picture the area in your mind. The romance is built slowly just as SF Captain Beckett Hollister slowly builds his new civilian life. He battles with the heartache of loss both at home and on the field of war so that it is not always an easy transition.
FRACTURED HONOR a story that makes you admire those who have served this country and demands that they receive the respect that they deserve. Along the way, you hope that all find the love that SF Captain Beckett Hollister finds with the irresistible Sierra Buchanan. Looking forward to reading more in this new series.
