This is a quick light read.
I loved the descriptions of New Orleans and the populace.
Our heroine is a singer in a night club that has to cut costs, and she is one of the anticipated costs.. That is until the owner hears her sing.
He lives in New York and wants her to move there.
There is love, lust and happily ever after.
What more could you want?

Bayou Brides by Linda Joyce is a fun read about characters who are trying to live their passions in New Orleans where they grew up. Rex and his sister Kayla Arceneau have a passion for creating unforgettable experiences at their restaurants. Kayla’s best friend, Nola’s, passion is music and helping others. Nola sings on weekends at Arceneau’s, which is now believed to be owned by Rex and Kayla after their father passed away. They soon learn that ten percent was left to their greedy uncle, fifty percent to Rex and forty percent to Kayla. Rex has his own restaurant in New York so has no desire to stay in New Orleans but has agreed to audit the books and help her get back on track to keeping the restaurant in the black. Nola’s sister runs Fleur de Lis a wedding venue where Nola also sings. She teaches classes and has formed a community band for underprivileged children. Her mother is very concerned that she is 28 and not married. When she meets Rex a bluesy 12/8 beat thumps in her heart. Is Rex equally affected? How will a relationship work out when he goes back to New York and Nola will not consider leaving New Orleans?
I liked this book and it is a quick read. I found the characters to be realistic for the most part though rather shallow at times. In the name of being helpful, they tend to butt into others’ lives and in ways not always wanted or needed. Personally, I thought there was a bit too much focus on lust; I did flip over some pages to get back to the real story line. I did enjoy the musical references throughout the story. I give this book 4 of 5 stars.

While this book seems to stand alone, I certainly didn't realize it was the fourth in a series. I thought the writing was rather insipid and not at all to my taste, although I have no doubt that there are others who will absolutely love t his book.
