what an amazing book!! The author is a master of creating stories and characters. I will definitively be reading books of this author!! Great job.
This was an interesting story with well-developed characters with a good plot. I enjoyed the story, but I after a while I found it to be a bit too wordy for me. Even though the story was good it seemed to be drawn out. That is why I gave a 4 star rating. I'm not saying that the story was bad, but it could have been tightened up a bit. All in all a nice story though.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 2 in the Tartans and titans series. In this one we get Mckenna’s Story. She is on the run accused of killing her horrible husband. Julien is a lord who doesn’t believe in love. This makes for a good read. I did enjoy it a great deal and can’t wait until more.
This addition to the series is nicely paced. It's an engaging read with vivid descriptions.
After losing everything that he is entitled to, Julien worked hard to create his empire. He now concentrates on cashing in on his business. His mother's welfare is the most important aspect of his life.
Makenna has been through a bad arranged marriage. She is now running for her life as she is wrongly accused of murdering her husband.
Julien and Makenna met a year ago and not knowing where to run, she decides to go into hiding in his castle. She thinks that he is in France and doesn't expect him to be in his Scottish residence. When she arrives with her maid, none other than Julien himself greets her and agrees for her to stay. He is not fully aware of the reasons for her escape. He has been drawn to her in the past, but as she was a married, he lived in his fantasies. Does this mean that he has a second chance in exploring what it is about her that intrigues him?
A Lord for the Lass is full of suspense. Whilst Julien and Makenna are getting comfortable with each other, Makenna finds herself in mortal danger on more than one occasion. They suspect that there is a spy amongst them, but knowing who is trying to kill her is difficult.
The relationship between Julien and Makenna is playful. Although, he is not interested in a relationship, he is becoming more and more attracted to Makenna. After everything that she has been through with her husband, Makenna learns how to trust again.
I like Julien's dedication to his mother and how he is willing to sacrifice everything he has for Makenna. Their interactions are fun and their romance is heartfelt. The story ends on a very satisfying note.
I was kindly issued with an eARC from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Lady Makenna Maclaren Brodie is on the run from her clan for the death of her husband and laird. Even though she is innocent, she and her maid run to the only safe place she knows...and right into the arms of the handsome French lord she'd met a year ago. But another man in her life is the last thing she wants or needs. An unapologetic rake, Lord Julien Leclerc is focused on one thing—expanding his empire and increasing his fortune. Everything else is a distraction, including women. However, when the widowed Makenna arrives on his doorstep in the Highlands, all bets are off. She wants nothing to do with men. He's sworn off all women. But with danger looming, the only safe haven may be each other's arms.
This was a pretty good book with 2 well-written main characters. I really like how both are driven to do what needs to get done. I recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Normally I like a good escaping lass and hero man story. But, this one just didn’t do it for me. From the first time we see Julian something about him just rubbed me the wrong way. He’s not the kind of hero I enjoy is stories like this. Mackenna just felt kinda boring to me. Sadly, this is not one I would recommend.
a splendid historical story by Ms. Howard and Morgan. The love story between Makenna and Julien is exceptional. I so enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more by this pair of authors.
I haven't read a Highland romance before (minus Outlander which is in a complete league of its own) and I was very happy with this one! A desperate, lovely woman on the run who has sworn off relationships returns to a French Lord who had always made her feel safe. Problem...he's sworn off women too! *gasp* How is this going to end;) Enjoy!!!
Thank you for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
Good, compelling story, but way too long. I found my interest waning as the story dragged out. The length of time Mackenna took to decide to go seemed odd. The fact that she was only a half day away from her enemies seemed implausible that she wasn't intercepted. The number of times that this couple was interrupted when they were being amorous is amusing and it was surprising it took so long for them to finally cross that line. The authors took too much time describing every single emotion and thought this couple had and it weighed the story down.
I really enjoyed the first book in the Tartans and Titans series, but I didn't like this one...I loved it! Apparently I need to go read the previous series by these authors, as I love a good Highlands story and these ladies know how to write them. After I read Sweet Home Highlander, I hoped the next couple would be Julien and Makenna and squeeeee, I got my wish! (If you haven't read the first one, this stands alone.)
When we met Julien and Makenna previously, you could feel the chemistry between them; but alas, Makenna was married. Now Makenna's brute of a husband has been murdered, and she is accused of the crime by the deceased 's dreadful cousin who lusts after her. She and her maid escape, and they go to hide out at Julien's castle, thinking he is in France. Oops...He and his mother are in residence. She worries that she will bring trouble to Julien's home, but cannot seem to make herself leave. But it eventually becomes apparent that trouble has followed her.
Julien and Makenna are marvelous characters and make a great couple. I loved Julien's smirk and his rather hideous waistcoats. And I loved Makenna's strength and independence. I was drawn to their humor (particularly Julien's) and captivated by their passion. If you love stories about the Highlands, strong heroines, gorgeous Frenchmen who are Highlanders at heart and lots of steam, you won't be the least bit disappointed. Here's hoping I'm right and next will be Ronan's story.
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. I received no compensation for this review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
A great Romance. From Scotland she came and from Scotland he became. I truly loved this book and the unique twist on a Scottish romance. Eschewing the usual plot lines this book breathed new life into a much beloved genre. I can't wait to pick up another novel written by the talented authors. A lord for the Lass will definitely be joining my bookshelf when it is released.
Makenna and Julien’s story has been a long time in the making. Julien has been a favorite character of mine from his appearance in a previous book from this author. Both characters are wounded in different ways but are getting a second chance to find themselves. There is lots of intrigue, love and hot Highlander sex appeal. Malcolm and Max are great fun. Everything resolves in surprising ways and Makenna and Julien find lasting love.
This book was.. Torture. Gah. I finished this book in one sitting because I was legit biting my nails off at all the drama going on.
I requested an ARC of this book for review from Netgalley because I was going through serious Jamie Fraser and Outlander withdrawals knowing I was sooo close to the new season and when I saw this book and read the summary, I just knew it would stave off some of those feelings but NOPE. Now, Julien is no Jamie Fraser but this French man captured my heart from the get-go and you guys have absolutely noooooo idea how crazy I went over the course of this book. I was literally texting my best friend over the course of this because I just couldn’t cope! Lol.
Now, sure I wanted to strangle both main characters because this has to be one of the slowest burn books ever, but as my best friend made me see, this only makes the story that much better and trust me when I say, it did. After everything Makenna went through in her first marriage, she had to slowly develop that trust with Julien and even then it would take a lot more before she was ready to actually trust another man with her body and heart after the treatment she’d faced at the hands of not only her ex husband but also his cousin. I’m so happy that Makenna got her happily ever after, and if you want to know just how that comes to be then all you have to do is pick up this book and dive into it full heartedly like I did. And trust me when I say, I don’t think anyone can regret reading this book after that first line from Lord Julien 😍😍
This was PHENOMENAL! I loved it from the first page when Makenna was accused of murder, imagine being thrown into jail for a crime you didn’t commit! You have no friends or family near, you’re a woman with no rights, and the new Laird wants to have his way with you, everything is against you. Escaping the first opportunity she gets she runs to Dunncraigh Castle, knowing that it’s not occupied. She’s surprised when Lord Julien Leclerc greets her and offers his assistance. Makenna and Julien had an attraction in Sweet Home Highlander and in this book they get their happy ending. I LOVED IT! This had everything, fantastic main characters wonderful plot with plenty of intrigue, twists and turns plenty of romance and suspense in every page. I started this at night and I have to say this kept me up way into the morning! I recieved a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my unbiased honest opinion.
A Lord for the Lass by Amalie Howard & Angie Morgan is book Two in the Tartans and Titans series. This is the story of Lord Julien Leclerc and Makenna Maclaren Brodie. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Makenna is on the run after her husband is murdered looking for a safe place to gather her thoughts and try to come up with a plan. Makenna heads to what she counted on being a safe place that ends up leading her to meet up with Julien again. Julien has not been able to get Makenna from his mind since their first meeting. But have sworn off relationships at this time but the more they are thrown together the more that doesn't seem to be possible...their feelings are getting to strong.
Enjoyed their story.
I was given this book by netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
From the very beginning to the very end, I was completely wrapped up in this book! I do not know how I haven’t read the first book in the series yet. The cover of the book is what drew me in at first, but as soon as I started the first few pages I could not put it down. The storyline was great it flowed so well, the pace of the book was fast and never really slowed down until the very end.
I felt connected to the characters with how well they were described and how detailed their feelings were. I loved Makenna’s strength and how much she cared for her family and friends. There were times that I hated when her pride would take over and she became stubborn, but still a great character. Julien is an English/French Lord that any woman would probably swoon over. He has been hurt by family in the past but he realizes he can forgive and move on. The two of them together were definitely a force to be reckoned with. Their love is so strong and plain as day but neither of them want to give in to it.
I definitely have to say I want to read more from these authors, their work is some of the best I’ve read in a while. I highly recommend this book to any romance lover.
Another wonderful story in the Tartans and Titans series! Whats a woman to do when she is accused of killing her husband, the laird of the Brodie clan? Escape with her maid and get away as fast as possible. Lady Makenna fled to the home of Lord Julien who she had met over a year ago and hoped that he would help her. She knew everyone would be looking for her soon .
I loved Makenna and Julien. The slowly became friends and although the last thing Makenna wanted was another man, Julian slowly was able to gain her trust.
Be prepared to be pulled into this tale with strong characters and a great storyline with a few twist and turns that will keep you guessing. Cannot wait for the next in this series!
This was another great read in this series. Makenna and Julien were two strong and engaging characters. Makenna and Julien meet again through unfortunate circumstances. There are a number of different tensions through the book, the sexual tension between Makenna and Julien and the ever present menace of the Brodie laird, Colin. There are a few twists and turns, some exciting action and of course, romance. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series, hopefully it will be concerning Makenna’s oldest brother, Ronan. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rating 4/5
I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.
This was a typical plot for a historical romance complete with murder mystery. I really enjoyed it - it had lots of suspense and full of action that kept me on my toes. What I didn't like was Makenna's character and how she thought it was okay to endanger Julien's life instead of going to family who had enough power to help her. Her naivety with some of the things that happened also made me feel her immaturity and it didn't match up to who I pictured Julien to end up with.
Still a fantastic read - the storyline was on point!

She wants nothing to do with men!
He's sworn off all women!
But with danger looming, the only safe haven may be each other's arms…..by Amalie Howard & Angie Howard
Lady Makenna MacLaren Brodie is in prison. She had been falsely accused of killing her husband. Not that he was any Prince among men by any means. Laird Graeme Brodie was a mean abusive, vicious, brutal, merciless, barbaric tormenting bully. The evidence turned up a dagger in the heart which had been a total setup! A gift from Makenna’s brother Naell that someone obviously framed.
Makenna knows it’s Graeme’s cousin Colin. A man even more vicious and brutal and extremely jealous! He is obsessed with having his wife something that make Makenna frightened and physically ill. Plus the fact they are starving her with no food or drink. Luckily she has an unusual benefactor that helps her escape!
Makenna decide to go to the wealthy Frenchman’s estate Lord Julien Leclerc she met last year at Naell and Ailsa’s wedding. She thought he would be on the continent busy with business deals. So she thought Duncraigh castle would be a place Colin would never find her. To her surprise the master was home. A master who had been obsessed with this fiery redhead since the day he met her a year ago.
Of course his honor wouldn’t let him seduce a married woman. Yet now all bets were off! Of course Makenna, the ginger spitfire, could of included her family and they would of come to her defense in a moment! Not to mention so many alliances through marriage. The stubborn minx wouldn’t do it, feeling it might cause lives and start clan wars.
Plus the attraction between Julien and MaKenna only grows. Yet Julien has slept his way through the continent with many beautiful women with no attachments. He won’t apologize for any of it, but something he can’t understand occurred on meeting MaKenna. A fascination for redheads that couldn’t satisfy him unless it was the real thing.
Now he has the real thing with no plans of letting her go. Like all good things come to an end Makenna feels it time to move on out of the country to keep Julien and his sweet maman safe. Yet is it too late with a huge bounty for Makenna!
Find out what is in store for the French rogue and sassy lassie? Will it be a life of slavery for Makenna under the obsessive violent behavior of Colin Brodie? Will Julien and Makenna finally realize they are soulmates for life?
I definitely recommend you read this awe-inspiring book! I couldn’t put it down! Including breathtaking setting, magnificent dialogue, amazing characters plus secondary characters like Lady Eleanor Haverille, young Malcolm and Maxim that you can’t help but love. The plotting was absolutely brilliant with so many twists, turns, ups and downs. I was holding my breath with anticipation, not knowing what could possibly happen next! It had me glued to my seat, a definite nail biter! The type of story historical romance readers will love.
Including all the elements romance readers love. From a riveting page turning adventure, a mystery in a “who done it” style and suspense. Then there is betrayal, attempted murder, murder, abduction treachery, abuse, brutality, abduction, viciousness, humiliation, betrayal, protection, heartwarming passion, trust and love. In addition so many more surprises and much more!
A book you don’t want to miss! I absolutely and unequivocally loved this story so much!
Bravo Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan ( Page Morgan)
