My Thoughts:

This is another seamlessly written co-authored book by these two authors.
I have enjoyed every book I have read by them and this is another enjoyable book in this series.I
I was happy to see Makenna and Julien get their own story having been able introduced to them in previous books in the series.
I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher to read.
This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

A Lord for the Lass is the second in the Tartans and Titans series, which follows Lady Makenna who has fled her husband’s clan, after she is accused of his murder. Together with her maid, she seeks shelter in the Lord Julien Leclerc’s home, only to find that he has returned with his mother. Having met Julien at a family wedding, he has been foremost on her mind when she needed the strength to carry on, given the vicious nature of her husband. Similarly, Julien has been captivated by Makenna. When it is revealed that her husband’s cousin is after her, Julien finds himself determined to save Makenna, despite his earlier protestations to focus only on amassing his wealth.
Both characters are strong willed but Julien’s ability to put others before his own safety, quickly disputed the claim that he is rake. The subtlety of his character added to this story, giving a depth to his feelings for Makenna. I had not had the chance to read the first book in this series, so I found that the storyline had been developed sufficiently at the start, whereby it was a stand-alone story. This does mean that I now have another book to read which I am sure will be just as delightful as this was. Prepared to be entertained with romance, well developed characters and plenty of action. I also look forward to reading more about Makenna’s siblings!
I received an advanced review copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Makenna McLaren Brodie was accused of killing her husband. She had thought about it, he was such an abusive and cruel man. He was not even faithful. Right now she was in a cell under the keep. The new Laird, Colin, was even worse than her husband. He was cruel, envious and so jealous. Someone helped her escape and she ran with her maid who could not stand staying there. Lord Julien LeClerc and his mother had just moved to Scotland from Paris to Duncraigh Castle. It was a little run down but still in decent shape. and of course, he would repair what was needed. When she fled, she knew of nowhere else to go, it was suppose to be abandoned. Julien takes them in.
The characters were well developed and interesting. The plot kept you on your toes and made it tough to put down. There was some intrigue and action. The author kept all the little pieces together and I really loved the story.

I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Makenna Maclaren Brodie was imprisoned for the murder of her cruel husband. One night, she was released by someone she barely knew. She and her maid travels to a house that a friend owns, hoping to hide there until she can get away for good. When she gets to the house, her friend, Lord Julien Leclerc is moving in. She can't imagine why he is in Scotland when he lives in France. He met her at a wedding previously and was very attracted, but nothing came of it as she was married. Colin, the new Laird of Brodie wants Makenna and will search until he finds her. Meanwhile, Julian and Makenna fall in love. There have been attempts on her life. Who knows where she is ? There are twists and turns. Villains that you won't expect and an ending that I didn't see coming. The heroine was fiesty , the hero honorable. I loved that the characters were fleshed out. The villains were really bad and Makennas's family were great. I received this book from Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. The opinions expressed are my own.

This is the second book in the series but whilst it’s easily read on its own I’d recommend reading the earlier books about the Maclarens. Julien & Makenna featured in the previous book in the series & as they seemed perfect for each other I hoped they would have their story. This is another well written well paced story by the authors, the characters are well fleshed, the chemistry between Julien & Makenna sizzles but both profess to be happy in their single state. As well as the growing friendship & romance between the pair there is also a murder to be solved & Makenna to be cleared of suspicion of murder, throw in a vengeful heir & I was happy to lose myself in this book

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Like the previous books in the series, this book was great! The male protagonist annoyed me at times, but otherwise I really enjoyed it. I felt that the depiction of abuse was also well done. The characters were compelling and I definitely shipped the two main characters.

Lady Makenna Maclaren Brodie is on the run from her clan, she has been accused of murdering him with her dagger. She and her maid escaped and runaway to safety to the only safe place she knows and should be abandoned. She ends up right into the arms of the handsome Lord Julien Leclerc a French lord, she met a year ago at her brother’s wedding.
Lord Julien Leclerc has no plans to marry he’s focused on one thing expanding his empire. He’s moved his Mother to Scotland where he’s concentrating on increasing his fortune when unexpectedly Lady Makenna lands on his door step, a distraction he doesn’t need or welcome. Julian has fantasized about Makenna for the last year after meeting her brother’s wedding to his best friend and now that she’s begged for his help how can he refuse.
He soon realizes she’s running from something and offers to help as long as it doesn’t interfere with his plans. She wants nothing to do with men, but she can’t help but be drawn to Julian as she recovers from her horrifying ordeal in his arms. She refuses to go to her family for help, she can’t place them in harm’s way. She just needs to discover who really killed her abusive husband to clear her name before his wicked cousin and new Laird finds her. I love these two they are perfect together. She stands up to him, not something he’s use too and she finds there are compassionate decent men in the world besides her brothers. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher/author for the ARC! All opinions are my own.

In this story our heroine, Makenna, is accused of murdering her abusive husband by his even-more-unhinged cousin and flees her clan, seeking shelter at the estate of Lord Julien Leclerc, whom she had met the previous year at her brother's wedding. The story follows her very slow burn with Julien and her development and growth back into the person she was before she married.

**Potential slight spoilers ahead***
I got really frustrated with her after awhile for being stubborn and putting Julien in danger without really caring about it, when she could've gone to her extremely powerful family to remedy the situation, yet she wouldn't because she didn't want them to get hurt. So she was fine with endangering Julien and his family, just not her own. Makenna also showed some surprising naivete for someone with her experiences, which also threw me off. Even in the end of the book when Julien has shown himself willing to sacrifice everything for her, she still continues to doubt him and his feelings. I understand she had her own issues, but she just grated on my nerves after awhile with her unnecessary risks and selfishness, and at times just plain stupidity. Eventually she finally quit doubting Julien and after quite a bit of narrative, we get our dramatic battle climax and things got more interesting. The middle of this one lagged a bit for me, but it was still a quality story with a good hero and delightful secondary characters later on. If you can stick it out through the middle, you'll be rewarded. Overall, I would recommend it.

A Lord for the Lass was a phenomenal read about the love story between a woman on the run accused of murdering her husband and the outsider who gives her hope for the future.

Lady Makenna Maclaren Brodie is on the run after being accused of murdering her husband, the laird. While Makenna imagined killing her abusive husband many times, she’s innocent of the crime but is forced to flee with her maid. Makenna goes to the first safe place she can think of only to find Lord Julien Leclerc in residence. Having met the French lord a year ago, she knows he’ll assist her so long as she doesn’t pose a threat to the empire he’s building. But as the two grow closer, Makenna finds herself in danger of losing her heart in addition to her life.

Makenna endured an abusive marriage for nearly a decade before her husband’s death gave her the chance of freedom. Makenna was treated horribly by her husband as well as those in the Brodie clan, but Scottish law left little room for her to free herself from the situation. Despite her circumstances, Makenna never allowed herself to give up which I greatly admired.

Julien’s mother was the daughter of a marquess who disowned her when she married for love over title. In the early years after his father died, Julien and his mother fell into poverty prior to her second marriage to a wealthy man. Due to the conditions of his early life, Julien believes that love only causes heartache and won’t save you from ruin.

Makenna and Julien have a wonderful relationship and I enjoyed the times where the two got to be alone. Julien is incredibly supportive of Makenna and understood that she would be wary to trust anyone after the way her husband treated her. Initially while Makenna acknowledged her attraction to Julien, she didn’t want to put him in danger and so she tried to keep her distance. I loved that Julien slowly worked to gain her trust and they became great friends in the process. Once their relationship does move forward, it’s fantastic and the sex scenes are amazingly done with a lot of focus on consent.

The conflict with the Brodie clan and the new laird’s obsession with Makenna was very well done. I definitely enjoyed the way everything played out and loved how justice was served. We do see the return of characters from the previous book in this series as well as some characters from the authors’ other series, the Lords of Essex. I loved getting to see the previous characters again and I can’t wait for some of the other characters to get their own romances in future books.

A Lord for the Lass was a great read and I can’t wait to see the rest of the Maclarens find love in future books. I highly recommend this series as well as the connected Lords of Essex series for anyone looking for good historical romances.

Having been accused of her husband's murder, Lady Makenna Maclaren Brodie flees the Brodie lands in search of safe haven. She recalls a friend of the family has a residence near and decides that is her best chance to seek shelter. What Makenna is not counting on is that the owner of said residence will actually be there, and with his mother who is obviously recovering from an illness. Makenna doesn't wish to place their lives in danger, but she is desperate.

Lord Julien Leclerc is more than surprised to find Makenna on his doorstep. After all, she is the one woman he has not been able to forget. Julien pushes his thoughts aside and turns to more serious matters, like why Makenna sought him out instead of her own family. Something must be horribly wrong, and Julien is determined to get to the bottom of it. What will happen when Julien learns the whole truth? Find out in A LORD FOR THE LASS.

Although A LORD FOR THE LASS by authors Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan is part of the TARTANS AND TITANS series, I believe it can be read as a standalone. However, if A LORD FOR THE LASS is anything to go by, I'm sure readers will agree that the rest of the series certainly bears reading. A LORD FOR THE LASS is book two and Makenna Maclaren's story. Makenna is intelligent, beautiful, strong and most important of all, a survivor. She has suffered much at the abusive hands of her now deceased husband. To make matters worse, Makenna can only look forward to more abuse from her late husband's cousin. It's no surprise she runs to the one man who, despite being a rake, has treated her with kindness. Julien is a man among men. He may be a bit of a scoundrel, but he knows how to treat a lady. He is just the person to help Makenna find herself once again and regain her strength. Julien and Makenna have much to overcome in order to find their HEA, but it is something to witness. As book two, A LORD FOR THE LASS, was my first read in the TARTANS AND TITANS series, book one, SWEET HOME HIGHLANDER, is next in my TBR pile. I cannot wait to read more about the proud, brave and endearing Maclaren brood!

loved Makenna and Julian's story! After reading the first book in the series, I was really hoping that Makenna would be rid of her husband so that she and Julien could make a go of it. You could see the heat between them even then!

Makenna's husband has been murdered and she has been blamed for it. With nowhere else to run, she heads to Julien's home hoping to stay for a few days to gather her thoughts and form a plan. She didn't count on his being in residence when she arrived. She doesn't want to bring him into this mess, but with not wanting to get her family involved, she doesn't have any other alternatives.

Julien met Makenna a year ago and since then he can't stop thinking about her. When she ends up on his doorstep needing his help, he promises to do everything in his power to help her.

Neither of these two are looking for a relationship, but sometimes the heart knows differently. Can these two prove that Makenna didn't kill her husband and get their HEA?

Loved this story so much!! The tension between Makenna and Julian was so think you could have cut it. Their past experiences kept them from wanting more, but thankfully their hearts won out in the end. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I just couldn't get into this one. There was no heat, no sizzle – the characters didn't pull me in at all.

❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋
If someone is out to get you where do you turn?
In Makenna’s case she turned to the one man she had faith in Julien .
He’s the one who became her friend, someone she could talk to .
Julien never thought to see her again but is so glad he did until he finds out the reason for her visit .
Another great addition to the series by these talented writers , fun and adventure all the way through .
Great read
I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review

This is the second in the Tartans and Titans series and just as enjoyable as the first.

Lady Makenna has been accused of murder and she is on the run. She is unsure of who she can trust and has no money to help her go very far. She can only think of one place to go that may be safe, which is Lord Julien's home (who we have met in book #1). She knows that he is back in France and that there should be no one at his home.

What Lady Makenna doesn't realize is that Lord Julien has just returned to his home, bringing along his mother because he feels that she will become healthier being away from France. He will do anything to keep his mother healthy, happy and safe.

He is shocked upon the arrival of Lady Makenna, but he hasn't stopped thinking of her since their last encounter. Lady Makenna has also thought of Lord Julien, but is unsure if she can trust him due to the abuse that she has suffered for many years. She certainly doesn't want to have any harm come to him or his family or her own. She would rather stay on the run from those who are searching for her to bring her back to an even more abusive relationship than she had with her first husband or to be sentenced for murder.

I really enjoyed how the story played out, the different characters from the first and second book coming together. Lady Makenna finding out who can be trusted and who should not. Her family being stronger than one could imagine and the love that they have for her, weather she wishes it or not.

Of course there is so much more to this story, but I don't want to give anything away, but I highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to the next in the series!!

Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. All opinions are of my own.

In the last book, I thought Julien was a no-care in the world dandy. He proved me wrong in this story. He is strong, loving, kind, gentle, kind of badass with the claymore and definitely not a dandy. His care for the feelings of others including his mother, Malcolm and Makenna make this an outstanding story. Both Makenna and Julien sacrifice and that sacrifice will make you tear up a bit…just saying. The colorful cast of characters from the first story are abundant in this one as well. I really enjoyed the journey with Makenna and Julien.

Makenna is on the run from her clan after being accused of killing her husband, after escaping from the dungeon where they were keeping her. She and her maid run to Dunncraigh Castle where the owner is presently in France, unknown to her, Julien has brought his mother to the castle to help improve her health. He was happy to see Makenna when she appeared on his doorstep and offered his assistance. The story tells of the abuse Makenna endured at her husband’s hands, a young child thought to be her husband’s, a maid who supposedly cared for her and the new love that is developing she and Julien. There is a HEA but there is a lot that happens before this occurs. There is a lot more to the story which makes it a great read. I would highly recommend this book.
