Heart Break Club is a cutesy romcom shojo manga when Nikki Asada was just starting out (originally published in Japan in 2011). I would say that the fact that a girl acts as a Cupid with her unfortunate luck and making friends along the way is a delightful story. The art is fairly simple shojo style that is kind of average.
Unfortunately, the localization with the translation and lettering seems to be below average. I guess the series is okay since it's lower priced but I with that the localization was better quality. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
*I WAS APPROVED OF AN E-GALLEY ON NETGALLEY IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. THIS DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION.*
And this book is just another reason why I love manga so much.
Heart Break Club is, on all levels, relatable and adorable. Our MC Nima is so obviously jinxed into never finding love, always being one step behind every other girl that takes her crushes away.
She's left heartbroken from all of these let downs, and ends up being invited into a club that studies other peoples love lives.
I love how the feelings and emotions were portrayed in this. I like how the characters all had to go through decisions normally and decide on the things they wanted. individually and together.
However, I did not like how Nima was so eager to move on from all her heartbreaks. I don't find it realistic that, after spending time with and forming crushes on these boys, she suddenly just shrugs it off and moves on. I mean, I can understand if someone becomes numb to the same experience occurring over and over again, but it genuinely did not seem like that was what happened.
Other than that, I did enjoy this chapter. The art was beautiful, the plot flowed nicely, and the characters all went through nice developments. For that, I rate this 4 stars. Definitely check this out, if you haven't already!
Nima is a young high-school girl who is jinxed in her love life. When she joins a club that observes the love-life of people in her school, she is thrown into a diverse group of friends and may even finally find love herself.
I absolutely adored the art style of this manga, and it made me want to pick up more manga by this mangaka. The witty banter that occurs between the club members and the light-hearted shouju manga vibes led me to give this an easy five-star rating. Pairing it with the mild cliffhanger at the end of this volume, it leaves you craving more and wanting to instantly pick up the second volume.
If you are looking for a manga to put you in a good mood and warm your heart, pick this one up.
ANIME HEART EYES!!!
Lol, sorry, I just couldn't contain myself. Have you ever been slightly down, mopey, knew something was slightly off, but you couldn't put your finger on exactly what was wrong? And then you read a book that brought you straight out of your funk? This was that book for me.
It's your typical Japanese high school manga, with the cute girls, the HAWWWT guys and the lack of actually being in class, despite the entire story taking place in a school. But there is comfort in getting what you expect and that is exactly what I needed right now. The storyline held my attention, I like all of the characters and this volume ends on a slight cliffhanger, so now I want the next books in the series, but not so much that I am frothing at the mouth and PO'd about it, ala Game of Thrones.
I would definitely recommend this. 5, thank you for getting me out of my slump, stars!
My thanks to NetGalley and Akita Publishing Co.,Ltd. for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this digital review copy.
I really really enjoyed my reading. It was cute, fluffy, fun and the ending was really good. The artwork is great. I can't wait to read Heart Break Club 2!
If you like romance, comedy, funny and cute stories, I highly recommend this story!
Thank you netgalley for such awesome book. I like reading manga and this was a very funny and unique story one. And Nima the character I guess we all relate to her in some way or other. So this was very good and short read can't wait to read more of this!!
While I enjoyed the artwork, the plot was all over the place and somewhat confusing.
There are better shojo out there...
I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
This was so cute! Nima is unlucky in love. Once she talks to the boy she likes they get a girlfriend. Which brings her to the Heartbreak Club.
I really like the story line. We learned more about each of the members of the club and I really want to know what happens next!
Thank you to Akita Publishing Co.,Ltd. and NetGalley for providing me with an e-copy to read and review.
Heart Break Club (Volume 1) is a romantic comedy that I can see myself really getting into. The premise is certainly different (and unique) from the usual rom-coms I read and watch, but there was something about this story that intrigued me. It's an unusual story and I think that's why I like it so much.
All of the characters are so endearing and lively in their own way. Nima Momosato (the MC) you can't help but root for. Yoriko Mitoya is an awkward nerdy to love (and also root for). Takeshi Okinoshima is kind, caring and cute. And Ryo Hikawa is an anime fan after me own heart.
This was a great opening to an entertaining story. I'm really interested in seeing where this story goes in the next volume. I'll have to add this series to my TBR for sure.
A super cute manga about a girl with a curse on her head - any guy she crushes on will fall for someone ELSE as soon as she confesses how she feels.
She ends up making friends with some of the school's resident weirdos and they embrace her with open arms... until she starts getting fluttery feelings for one of her new friends... who is in love with someone else AND has another very... intense admirer.
It's definitely one that will appeal to the romantic comedy manga fans.
This was such a cute graphic novel! I loved following Nima and her band of misfit friends as they explore love and relationships. I loved all the characters were introduced and that each chapter ended with a couple of short vinaigrettes about the characters hi-jinks. This flew by so quickly and i was surprised to find a read most of it in one sitting.
Book Review
Title Heart Break Club Volume 1
Author: Nikki Asada
Genre: Manga
Rating: *****
Review: So, I didn’t know anything about Heart break Club going into it but the cover gave me some Breakfast Club vibes, so I had to request it. The synopsis states: Nima Momosato is jinxed. Whenever she has a crush on someone, they end up finding love elsewhere right in front of her eyes. She ends up joining a slightly weird club that observes and studies other people's love lives and relationships. Now this was enough to get me hooked.
Nima is jinxed, every time she likes a boy then end up getting girlfriends before she can confess making her a bit of a joke within the school, however, one day she is approached by a girl to join her club as they observe the love lives of others from the shadows. After some thought Nima decides to check out the club where she meets, Ryo, Takeshi (trap alert!) and Yoriko. The banter is already top quality with everyone have something different about them which is hilarious. Yoriko seems to be a nerdy person with the deserve to watch other peoples lives like soap opera, Takeshi is the biggest trap if I’ve ever seen one and Ryo is a secret otaku.
As we learn more about the characters and what they are trying to do with their club we learn about the different outlooks each has on love, Ryo only loves anime, Takeshi is in love with his childhood friend who is engaged while Nima never even gets the chance to confess the only one we don’t know much about is Yoriko, but she seems to know everything about everyone.
In the final section of the manga we get a few interesting twists and I can already see a relationship developing between two of the characters and there is a very strange mystery surrounding another and their love life and it gave me some really creepy vibes, so I can’t wait to get into volume 2 as soon as I can.
This was too cute and I need to read the rest. The illustrations and story are just the kind of light and fluffy that I need.
I do hope that Nima finds that love she's always wanted!
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this in exchange for an honest review.
Joining the Heart Break Club could possibly help our main character because she's having no luck in love because whenever she's interested, someone beats her to it, so enters a group that will watch her like a curious science experiment to try to fix the issues.
Fun manga with hopeless romance at it's heart and an entertaining premise that while predictable is what makes it most of the fun. Who will she end up falling for because we know it should probably work out in the end!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
I love manga and it is ones like this one that remind me about how cute and funny, shoujo manga can be. I had a fantastic time reading this and was sad when I finished it.
I love all the characters and think I see where the romance is going, which should be cute. The art is clean and nice to look at. I almost laughed out loud, but not quite.... yet. I will be continuing this series, so I'm betting that eventually it will get a laugh out of me.
I'm so bad at reviewing manga-- especially ones I liked. I adored this and plan to continue reading it. If you like quirky romance stories, you should definitely give this one a try.
Thanks to netgalley and netgalley and the publisher for the free e-book to review.
Ahhhh I loved it, I love the art, the characters and the angst. Poor Nima is jinxed if she falls in love the guy finds love with someone else. This is really fun and addictive, I love these type of manga and they're so cheerful and light hearted, the perfect pick me ups. The comedy is great, perfect angst and tension, so good I'm off to get the next because I need to know what happens next and hope Nima gets her guy.
I do not normally read manga but I did enjoy this. It was fun and a little different. I like the potential in this series.
I really like the art style in this manga! The setting felt quite similar to Ouran High School Host Club, with a kooky school club having various adventures, but this is more serious/sad than the opening volumes of Ouran. I did feel that the panels could be a little disconnected, leaving it slightly hard to follow conversations, but on the whole, I very much enjoyed the concept of the main character's terrible super powers, and I found each of the characters well-rounded and interesting. I usually like my manga a little more light-hearted, but I'm keen to see more in this series.
I am trying to read more manga and this one sound really cute. But i guess this kind of manga is not my cup of tea. I confused a lot. Everything happened so fast. The plot was all over the place. I am wondering how things gonna happen so probably i will give a chance to next volume. I really liked the artwork though.
Thanks to NetGalley, Nikki Asada, and Akita Publishing for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was slightly different at first, but also predictable. Nima has a curse where, every time she plans on asking out a guy, someone beats her to it, no matter who it is. She is invited to join the Heartbreak Club, where the president can observe the strangeness of Nima's situation. In the club are two other boys, but Nima might just be falling for one! How will that effect her strange curse? And what happens when another girl who has the opposite power of Nima finds interest in the same guy?
Overall, I loved the art and thought the story was pretty cute, but already deviates back to a normal high school romance type of novel by the end, with little to keep it unique. Nothing bad about that, and it's still a fun story!
