Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

"The Throwaways" was a bit of a surprise for me. It's certainly better than I thought it would be. I typically don't like books with stories told through different character POVs. This one managed to be a bit of an exception. I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

4 college friends, once so much a part of each others lives, but drifted apart and wrapped up in their own lives. But when George is unexpectedly pulled into a bad situation involving dead sorority girls, drugs, and fear for his life, he quickly turns to the one place he can feel safe, his hometown and old friends. The story moved fast and had lots of turns. The author revealed each mans story in a way that made me care about each flaws and all. Definitely a book I will recommend to friends looking for a good thriller.

There are catchy reader's hooks; there are great reader's hooks; and then there is the explosive reader's hook that blasts open a door into apparently alternate reality--a reality that is so unbelievable and so disarming that no one in their right mind would want to inhabit it. Poor George Engel certainly doesn't want to be here; he has enough troubles just being himself, at the age of twenty-eight already considered a "life passed him by" candidate. But just when George finally finds something going for him--his acceptance into Law School--life upends him. His topsy-turvy new existence doesn't seem to ever pause; he can't catch a breath and he can't catch a break. George gives an entirely new meaning to the term "feckless hero." Feckless can't even begin to describe what this guy goes through.

Tension-laden with suspense ratcheted to the max, THE THROWAWAYS is a book you can't put down. It will blast you out of your complacency and into an entirely new manner of perception, and you will simultaneously hate it and love it, close your eyes and open them as wide as possible, cheer on feckless George and scream "oh no!" The one thing you will NOT be with this novel is bored.

The Throwaways by L.S. Hawker was an interesting read. The story is broken up and told from the POV of four main characters who are childhood friends brought together by one’s mysterious involvement in a horrible crime.

George is “beige”. Nothing really happens in his life until one day everything seems to change. First he finds out he has been accepted to law school. Then he meets a beautiful girl at the liquor store who wants to celebrate with him. She just needs a ride to her sorority house first. The next thing George knows he is waking up in his car covered in blood and witnessing a house explode. The girl is gone. But a bloody knife and a recently fired gun are in the backseat of his car and he has no idea how they got there.

To try to figure out what happened, George returns to his hometown. While there he seeks the help of his three best friends, each with issues of their own. Bill is a college professor living on the edge. Curt is the town playboy who sold his family’s land to be used for a questionable project. Travis is the good soul who just wants to be a cop but for some reason never makes it.

So, who and why would anyone want to frame George for murder? George and his friends get involved in a dangerous game of cat and mouse as they try to solve this mystery. The ending does not disappoint!

This story brought back some nostalgia for friends that I have known in high school and don't get to see as often as I like. The adventure and suspense of the story had my heart beating out of my chest and I was rooting for the "good" guys. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. Thank you Netgalley for my copy of the book.
