I had a perfectly good time in the Cornish Summer.
The story was engrossing and the characters felt like old friends. I enjoyed my time with them.
Brilliant plot, excellent main characters that you invest in. I read this book in one sitting and I would highly recommend it.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher and most importantly the Author. I absolutely love all Philippa Ashleys books and this was up there with great reads
Another fantastic book from Phillipa! I love getting lost in the Cornish scene. There’s a lot going on in this book and at times I found it hard to keep up with but love the overall story.
I received an early preview copy of this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I have heard good things about Phillipa Ashley, but I had not read any of her books before. When I was offered an early copy of her new book, I thought that it was a good opportunity to try her writing, especially as it was the first book in a new series.
I enjoy reading books that have a beach setting, and there are plenty of books that are set in Cornwall. The book is set in a quiet Costal town which is rising in popularity, due to the Food Festival. This book features the organisers of the Food Festival, as they plan for the next festival, but encounter several drawbacks along the way. The main protagonists are Sam and Gabe, who are suddenly thrown together, following a rift during their teenage years.
In the beginning of the book there were a lot of characters, and I found it initially hard to follow. I had to keep going back and re-reading to remind myself who the characters were. Once I got further into the book it was easier to follow the storyline and remember the characters.
There is a wide range of characters, young and old, who were mostly likeable. It soon became apparent that most of them had secrets. I enjoyed reading about their past, and learning their secrets. I thought that their problems were resolved too quickly and neatly, especially if there are going to be sequels. It might have been good to draw out some of their problems, as it would have been more realistic. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading this book, and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
I'm a big Phillipa Ashley fan. I love getting lost in the Cornish countryside when I read her books. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It's a good summer read though there is a lot going on and sometimes the amount of characters are overwhelming. But, I still loved the plot of the story and its setting. If you are a fan of Karen Clarke and Cathy Bramley, I think you'll love this book!
Thanks to Avon books and netgalley for an early copy in return for an honest review
Having read all of Phillipa Ashley books I was delighted to get an early copy.
Set in wonderful cornwall with it's idyllic views and way of life this was a book that answered all of that a good storyline of the past coming to meet you again
I did find the first couple of chapters very busy with lots of people and names after that it settled in to a good story can highly recommend this book to family and friends
I would like to thank Avon for asking me to review this book and to ask me to be apart of the blog tour.
Here we have a delightful story that melts the heart.
Set in the amazing idyllic setting of Cornwall in the village of Porthmellow we meet Sam. Sam is still coping with the past hurt in her family and by running herself into the ground with work. The community are all behind her in organising a food festival which started out to safe this beautiful Cornish village from being lost from all the tourist maps, like forever and that cannot happen. Defiantly not, by the sound of the gorgeous descriptions that Phillipa Ashley writes describing the location of her story. Sam also works for herself baking and selling pies and does not have time for love, especially after being heartbroken in the past.
However, is all that about to change? In walks Gabe a famous handsome chef who is here to save this years food festival. His arrival is not all together smooth and he is in need of some real smooth talk and action if he wants to make up for the past.
A brilliant read and one I was so excited to get my hands on.
Phillipa Ashley has created a beautiful love story set on the idyllic Cornish coast. One not to be missed.!
I was really excited about this book but I just couldn't get fully into it. There seemed to be a lot going on, too much to be able to class this as a light read but not enough for it to be drama, just a lot. I didn't really feel the connection between the main characters and the reasoning for not explaining the whole "big misunderstanding" from the beginning of the book seemed flimsy. Very disappointing.
The world is mad for Cornwall these days and in Ashley’s latest, we join Sam Lovell in her hometown of Porthmellow, where she’s planning the annual food festival. The village has fallen on hard times financially and Sam and her fellow villagers are hoping the festival will give the town a much-needed boost of income. Trouble arises when the guest of honor, pulls out, leaving Sam with little option but to welcome replacement chef, Gabe Matthias. Like Sam, Gabe was a local before he became a hit in London. It looks like the festival will be saved, but can Sam wrap her head around the return of the last man she expected to see back in Porthmellow. Ashley brings the sights and sounds of Cornwall to life in her lovely little romance
