This sounded absolutely brilliant from the blurb, but it was difficult to get into and engage with the characters - something about the writing didn’t flow right for me. I’m going to give it another read at some point, but it didn’t grab my attention and I had to make myself finish it.
I had Avery hard time getting into this book. Possibly I’m too old. When I was dating, there was no social media at all.i found it hard to relate. I do thank NetGalley and L Smith for the opportunity
I honestly couldn’t get into the book. Maybe it was the self doubt in the character? I am not a big fan of doubt and really can’t respect characters that have it in spades.
Based upon the synopsis and advertising, I was expecting a fast paced psychological thriller. Click is more of a slow burning piece of suspense. It's definitely a cautionary tale about the dangers of social media. The main character held my interest despite her personal dysfunction and poor decisions. The overall story seemed slow and I kept waiting for a big event or dramatic moment, which never materialized. I was entertained but not riveted.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.
I really liked it!
So close to reality it's scary! Social media = dark and dangerous place!
You never know who's behind the screen, people can be anyone, anything, tell you anything... because we all know that nobody ever lies online...
Well written, interesting story, good suspense...
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for allowing me access to this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Two and a half star rating.
Eva, a loner who has been homeschooled is now a student at university, something she didn’t seem prepared for. She latches on to another student, Marina and also cyberstalks people she knows. Eva is strange and Marina a cold fish. This book, for me, never really got going sadly so I didn’t engage with anyone in it. Thought from the blurb that it would be a thriller, but it wasn’t - disappointing.
First, thanks so much for the opportunity to get an ARC of this book.
I am marking this as DNF. I have put it down and picked it up so many times, I just can't get in to the story. Actually, I haven't even found the story yet.
I will try again at a later date.
I really really tried. I could not finish this book, as it just dragged on and nothing was happening. I might try to come back to it later and give it another try, but for now, consider this DNF.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy.
I really enjoyed this read and how it highlights the dark side to social media and how easily accessible our lives are to some. Sometimes those choices we make to invade others privacy can catch up with us and have dire consequences. Being a firm believer that the internet can be a scary place is what intrigued me to read this book and I’m glad i did. Eva was a little hard for me to connect with and I couldn’t for the life of me rationalize some of her choices but I blame that on her sheltered life and immaturity. All of the characters had issues of their own and I enjoyed the character development. It has plenty of twists and turns and will keep you entertained should you choose to read this book.
This book was deliciously suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat! It followed the complex friendship of two college girls with many twists and turns.. I highly recommend this thriller!
I really enjoyed this book. It was such a page turner for me. Couldn't put it down once I started it. I recommend it to others.
I couldn't finish this book- I was at 20% and I had no enthusiasm regarding the story.
It felt very padded out, over explained, it was 20% of filler- and i have the feeling the whole book is going in that direction.
I appreciate the chance to review- so thank you Netgalley and Killer Reads for choosing me- but this story wasn't for me.
Description
STRANGER.FRIEND.OR ENEMY? Who is it really hiding behind the screen?
A gripping read that will stay with you long after the final page, perfect for fans of FRIEND REQUEST and HE SAID/SHE SAID.
Eva arrives at university ready to escape her past. She wants a new life, a new personality. But old habits creep in and she finds herself alone, online, watching the digital lives of others.
One profile, in particular, captures Eva’s attention: that of her glamorous classmate, Marina. As Eva’s obsession builds, she becomes drawn into a web of lies, danger, and suspicion. Because Marina’s perfectly filtered life isn’t what it seems.
What is Marina hiding? And behind the screen, who is Eva really – her friend, a stranger, or an enemy?
It only takes a click to find out.
It was just ok. I expected more from the book. It fell flat. Sometimes less is more in a book. Just not a read I could recommend.
This is a timely cautionary tale about the dark side of the cyber world.
It just shows how people could be led to misplace their trust into the wrong hands with tragic consequences.
The novel deals with such themes as manipulation, obsession, and stalking.
It's a thought provoking read but was more of a slow burner than the fast paced thriller I thought it would be.
3.5 stars rounded to 4.
Thanks Netgalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads, and author L. Smyth for an ARC in exchange for a fair review.
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
The plot sounded so interesting but the mystery was flat and took so long to develop I had long since stopped caring. Not even an entertaining guilty pleasure
I had high expectations for this book, but after reading the first few chapters I knew that I was not going to get through it.
L. Smyth did a fantastic job keeping my attention and I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone that loves a good thriller. Possibly a good lifetime movie?
I was very sure that Click would become one of my favorites, but the story didn't draw me in. It had true potential, but the telling left much to be desired.
The storyline was well written however I found myself not connecting with any of the characters. I would have liked to have seen slightly more development.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I will most definitely be ordering it in to sell to customers at my work!
