Ice Hot
A New York Nighthawks Novel
by Tracy Goodwin
📚💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💕📚
I’m loving this new team!!
Well let me start by saying I have become a huge fan of this author. She writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines that are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.
Authors Blurb: Christian: They call me a hockey god because I’m a beast on the ice . . . and off. Men want to be me and women just want me. But now that the New York Nighthawks expect me to lead their team to victory, it’s all work and no play. My eyes are on the prize. Until I meet Serena Ellis, a sexy, curvalicious blonde who doesn’t know me from jack. And just like that, I’m hooked.
Serena: I don’t do one-night stands—especially with celebrity jocks who date models. Lots of models. But the god of hockey is a temptation that’s hard for mere mortals to resist. And after the best kiss of my life, I’m ready to throw my one-night stand rule out the window. Except Christian Chase won’t let me. He doesn’t want a one-night stand. He wants it all.
I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕
3 stars!
Ice Hot is the first in a new sports romance series centered around the Nighthawks hockey team.
Christian Chase is this new team’s captain. The team spirit isn’t quite there and things get off to a rocky start. After having an already rough day, he stops at a gas station where he bumps into a beautiful spitfire. Soaked in a blue Slurpee, she sure does give him a piece of her mind.
Days later, she’s still on his mind. And much to his surprise bumps into her again (minus the blue Slurpee :P) at a bar while with his teammates.
I felt their heat and chemistry right away. That’s was probably my favorite part in the book. I love how this book showed a more curvy women and had a man who admired that part of her and was attracted to her for that reason.
Until about halfway through the I was completely interested. I don’t know exactly what happened but I think it became a repetitive mix of internal monologue for both of them, in between all the physical action. But it lost that spark they had before they gave into their attraction.
What made me like her was how strong and confident she was, so her questioning why he was with her despite her curvy figure was a total turn off. Had it been mentioned once or twice, that would’ve been okay with me. Even the most confident women get insecure sometimes, but she was a bit excessive in second guessing herself.
All in all, it was a mostly enjoyable read.
Smart, steamy sports romance
Tracy Goodwin was a new to me author when I decided to read Ice Hot but it’s clear that her New York Nighthawks is going to be a favorite new series.
I loved the connection Serena and Chris had from their very first meet. It was more than just the sexual chemistry which was explosive, it was like their hearts connected. It just took their minds a little time to catch up. I loved Serena’s strength and how she handled being bullied. The plot was interesting and moved well and the HEA worth the struggles. I enjoyed the secondary characters and can’t wait for the next book in the series Ice Hard.

I enjoyed this first book in the new series by new-to-me author, Tracy Goodwin.
Some of the things I liked about this book were the characters (even the ones you didn't like were well written), the realistic dialogue, the tight-knit group of supportive people that Serena had in her life, and the life-long friendship that Christian and Nick had. Even though much of the plot has been done before with no surprises, the writing is strong enough that it's still enjoyable, and fast-paced enough to be a quick read.
Some of the things I didn't like were the lack of support from the PR team, and the lack of grovelling at the end. (Though kudos to Goodwin for having Christian show some actual remorse and emotion during his apology. That was definitely something I've never encountered in a North American contemporary romance before.) And it seemed to me that Christian claimed not to be your typical "player", that it was all a created public persona, but then he started talking as though he'd been (truly been) with a lot of women. So that was a little confusing, but as this was an ARC maybe it got cleared up before the final print.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys hockey romance, and the works of Sarina Bowen, Victoria Denault, and Melissa Cutler. And I will definitely be following this series, and this author.
3.5 Stars
I was initially drawn to this title as I love a sports romance, and the cover is very enticing.
Christian and Serena's story is a fast paced read, of two individuals that come from different worlds.
Christian is the captain of a new expansion team the New York Nighthawks. He's successful, rich and competitive.
Serena may come from a life of privilege, but she's independent, hard working, independent, snarky, and sassy. She's confident, and strong, yet insecure.
Both characters are complex, yet vulnerable, and although they may appear to be quite different, they have much more in common than it originally appears. Both are driven, determined and have issues with their family.
The chemistry between this pair is undeniable and felt realistic, although at times their story did feel a tad rushed.
Stronger Together!
Hockey player Christian Chase is new to New York and frustrated with members of his new team when he runs into a gorgeous blonde holding a blue slurpee spilling it on her. Christian and his team later have a night out at a bar as part of their team bonding. He sees the blonde from the slurpee incident and they dare him to ask her out, wanting him to crash and burn like one of the other teammates. When Serena Ellis goes along with the dare, they play act that Christian was turned down but he actually got her number.
Designer Serena Ellis is one of my favorite characters in a while because she is full figured and size is just a number. Her answer when the interviewer stated that she wasn’t Christian’s usual type was perfect and worth reading the book. So yes, Chris and Serena are stronger together than they were apart from each other. I loved the book and want to read the next book Ice Hard.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book I've read by Tracy Goodwin. I had to give this one a read because hockey romance is one of my jams right now. I gobble them right up. Serena and Christian's first meeting is quite memorable. It set a fun, but serious note to the book. There were many times I found myself laughing while reading this, but this book also has a ton of heart. I'm not gonna lie when the couple had their struggle it was difficult to read. To see them struggle and go through what they had to was a little heartbreaking. Tracy did a great job on creating some very unlikable characters. One in particular I disliked the most and I wanted to knock some common decency in him. Serena is an inspiring character and one many women can relate to. I'm looking forward to more of Tracy's hockey hunks!
Hockey romance is my favorite, so that was a draw when I saw this book. The hockey part was mostly during the pre-season with the drama of starting a new franchise and the discord with a particular teammate. I think that was my favorite part actually. The romance between
Chris and Serena was not as interesting for me, because it was a bit too predictable. There was a lot of focus on her curvy shape and accepting it. (So if that is of interest to you, it may be a better read.) The unbelievability of a couple of things, like the progression of their first shower scene and her mother's complete turn around, is keeping this at a 2 to 2 1/2 star rating for me.
Great story line, about an expansion hockey team centered around their captain Christian. He's got a reputation that has been built up through the press, but it's far from the truth. When he bumps into Serena, their meeting is less than sweet! When he bumps into her again, he realizes just how beautiful she is. Serena has issues, her parents were less then loving toward her and her brother. Chris always carries issues from his childhood, can these two get passed there past and forge a stable loving relationship? Read along and find out! 4 stars for this one, if you love hockey and love grab this one asap!!
I really enjoyed this book. This hockey player/curvy girl romance offered a enjoyable blend of drama, humor, heat and emotions. I loved Christian and Serena. I thought that their chemistry was steamy and the emotional connection between them sweet. I thought they made a great couple and I thought it was amazing that they loved each other simply because of who the were on the inside. This read left me happy, satisfied and eager to further explore more characters in the New York Nighthawks world.
I loved Christian and Serena. Although this isn't really an insta-love, their story moves along pretty fast and this is a great quick read that will give you all the feels.
Christian is a hockey god. At least that's how the press portrays him. Captain of the team and the man every woman wants a part of, but Chris, to those that matter most, is getting tired of the game. So when he runs into the beautiful blonde with a sassy attitude and she has no clue who he is... it's refreshing.
Serena is trying to make a name for herself, without the help of her socialite mother and billionaire father. She's tired of the wealth game and just trying to come out of it all as a person with a mission and purpose. Christian, the hockey god, is really the last person she needs to draw even more attention to her life. But there's this chemistry between the two of them that just can't be denied.
The two decide to do something that is foreign to both of them. They dive headfirst into a relationship - but when their two worlds collide, the two are in uncharted territory and will their love for each other help or hinder their futures.
These two definitely were HOT together. And at times it seemed a little too much for me. But overall I loved the storyline and both characters you immediately fall in love with. Serena is sassy and sexy with all her curves. And Chris only has eyes for her, which is sexy as hell. Great read!!
3.5
I’m on the fence with this one. I really liked Chris and Serena, she’s strong and very sassy. It started off pretty good, then towards the middle I started to skim. There was quite a bit of internal dialogue, liked pages and pages so I skimmed through a lot of that. They both thought they weren’t good enough for each other and there’s a huge chunk of body issues in here. This is my first book by this author and I did like most of it. I would probably continue on with the next book in the series.
Ice Hot is the first book in the New York Nighthawks by Tracy Goodwin. The first player to find love is Christian and he is the newest player on the team. Serena is a desinger and is on the plus size side. I am mentioning her size because it plays an important role in the second half of the book and it has shaped Serena's personality. All her life she was bullied for it and she still shamed for it by some mean people. Under other circumstances, I might have found some of her reactions a little over the top, but they were justified to an extent. The way she treated Christian early in the book was horrible and I understand why some people didn't bother to read beyond that. She came off as very immature and indecisive. She is more mature later in the book though and that was a win in my book. Christian is one of the good guys and I liked him a lot even when he tried to fix things in the wrong way. We learn from our mistakes, right?
The book was easy to read and on the light side. There is drama, but nothing over the top. I was rooting for Christian when it came to the team drama (yes we got a couple of kinds of drama) and I was glad that plotline was resolved in this book. The author did a good job at introducing us to the next guys who are going to get a book and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
Christian has experienced success on the ice with two Stanley Cups from his previous team but he has recently signed a lucrative contract as the Captain of the Nighthawks and the pressure is on for them to have the same success.
Serena comes from a privileged background but has never felt accepted by her parents. She has given up trying to have a body like a model and has accepted herself as she is but working in the fashion industry doesn’t always make that easy.
From the moment they meet the chemistry between them is electric. He is attracted to her feisty and fiery personality and he is the first man she is considering having a relationship with since a traumatic experience in his past but dealing with their careers and the publicity that they draw is more difficult than they expected.
This is a sweet and sexy story between two people with difficult pasts who realize that they are much stronger together than apart.
I'm a sucker for hockey romance and this one was a great read.
I love Christian and Serena and their relationship. The progress of it was written beautifully, but the only problem I had was they just knew who was trying to sabotage their relationship. I wanted to know more about why he did what he did. But that didn't take away my liking off the book. I loved that Serena had a strong backbone and wouldn't take too much shit from anyone. I loved how he supported her. But being a guy, Christian did screw up but when he got his head on straight I fell for him even more.

My first time reading Tracy Goodwin and I'm a huge fan. I can't believe I now have to wait until September (!!!) to see Nick finding his HEA just like these two did.

If you like your steamy romance with a special bond between the two main characters that evokes so much emotion you feel it down to your toes, Chris and Serena's story is for you. Neither was looking for love, and both thought they were too busy, but when fate puts them together, their lives are irrevocably changed. He's the captain of the new professional hockey expansion team, and she's busy trying to launch her clothing design business. But from the first time they meet, there's an undeniable connection between them that won’t be ignored.
More and more, we're seeing authors use their work to highlight various social issues. That can be a double-edged sword, because if taken too far it can alienate the reader. Goodwin strikes a nice balance, showing the heart and emotion behind the issue while giving her heroine a spine of steel and strong voice while still wrestling with self-doubt. In doing so Serena comes across as authentic and endearing, engaging the reader and easily winning her over. As strong and accomplished as Chris is, his old insecurities cropping up make him seem more human and, with the exception of an instance of self-sabotage, relatable and loveable.
Most of the book takes place prior to the hockey season, so the bulk of the sports aspect is what occurs behind the scene and in preparation of the season, which is a fresh take on a hockey romance. There is still plenty of dealing with the fame and public opinion of dating a hockey player, as well as disagreeable parents on both sides, all of which provide for the conflict in the book. I liked both Chris and Serena and had no trouble connecting with them, which easily had me invested in the outcome of their story. The secondary characters were vivid and colorful, and the guys on the team, especially, left me wanting more of the New York Nighthawks. I’m ready to buy a team jersey, and I can't wait to see what comes next in this series!

Hockey romances or just sport romances in general are another one of those kryptonite reads for me! I simply can’t stay away from them. ICE HOT was a first time read from this author and even though this story wasn’t quite up there with some of my favorites (that list is extensive), I definitely enjoyed Chris and Serena’s story!
I liked that we got to see the inside of the sport, some sport romances don’t always show that, so it was definitely refreshing. I love the anatomy of sports, I grew up playing volleyball competitively, so I definitely understood some of the dynamics. Not the famous part, though, obviously 😉 It felt like we got two stories in one with Chris trying to lead his team to be the best that they can and dealing with a bad egg on the team. The bad egg being a character that I’m rather curious to know if we’ll be seeing him again in this series.
I have no idea what it’s like to be professional athlete and constantly being in the spotlight. It definitely sounds like a nightmare, but I have always felt that personal and career should always be separated. So, there was a certain issue where Chris approached his sports management for some PR control. But keep in mind, I’m claiming the fact that they don’t get involved, I honestly don’t know how this all works in the real world.
I didn’t quite connect with Serena like I hoped I would because she definitely could have been a character that I’d love. Like many of us out there, we all have our insecurities, but she constantly had to state them to Christian every time they had a moment together. And he absolutely worshipped her like every woman should!
ICE HOT wasn’t exactly a huge win for me, but I enjoyed this read and am looking forward to the rest of this series!
I fell so hard for Christian and Serena. Usually the sports star in books is portrayed as an a@@, but Chris was so not like that. He hardly drank, he was a nice guy and he had issues with his dad. Serena was born into money, but was trying hard not to let her insecurities (due to people fat shaming her) get her down. The way they met was so cute and I liked how he never saw her as anything other than a beautiful woman.
They were a perfect match, but I would have liked a little bit more build up. I did like how she was trying to help him earn the respect of his team, especially one player, but couldn't go through with it after she saw how they treated him. This book had a really good message for both sports fans and everyone, especially when it comes to how to treat one another.

I love books where the characters aren't what you are expecting...the woman who wants a one night stand and the man who doesn't. It switches the expectations of the story and it makes the characters feel different and fresh, which is a challenge in a genre that has a pretty expected story line, plot and ending.
Christian and Serena were, in some ways, what I was expecting and in others were not at all. I liked this, I liked that I felt like I was not able to predict most of this story. Their chemistry felt real and I thought the balance of the story that focused on his career also felt realistic. I hate it when a hero is a sports star, and you never see them in their sport...it's off season, or whatever the reason, but I really enjoyed the sports centered parts of this...there was enough of it, without it feeling like this was a book about hockey with a side of romance.
I did think that there were a few things with secondary characters that I thought took away from the story, but I was still able to enjoy the story overall.
I enjoyed and recommend this story.
Christian who is the new captain of the team has a lot of pressure on him. He's very organized and likes everything in it's place. One thing that doesn't fall into that is a relationship he doesn't do those. The first time that he meets Serena had me laughing out loud. Than the second time had me laughing too.
Serena grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth but didn't have the one thing that she wanted. I absolutely loved her grandma!!! She cracked me up.
Their backgrounds couldn't be more different but what's on the inside isn't much different at all. Will outside forces tear these two apart before they get to indulge in finding what they have? Will there pasts make it to where they are too scared to put it all on the line?
