This book is full of interesting ideas for hands on projects and advice. For children and parents there are tips on all aspects of birds from behaviour to feeding.
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book. It will make a great addition to a topic library when doing a project on birds and animals.
This is a really fabulous book for young bird lovers that can double as a fun part of a science and nature curriculum. It features activities broken down by season that are designed for parents to do with kids to teach them about birds. There are lots of great projects, facts and activities, with beautiful artwork throughout.
Ideal for homeschoolers, nature lovers, preschools, day cares, nature centers and forest schools, it's also affordably priced.
In my rating system for books I read for reviews, I give 5 stars if I am seriously considering buying the book for myself or would buy it again if it were lost (or for books that are not relevant for me, that I would buy for my home library if they applied). Even if a book has flaws, if I'd buy it for myself or a friend then I consider it a 5 star book. This book fits that criteria and I honestly cannot think of any flaws.
My rating system:
1 = hated it
2 = it was okay
3 = liked it
4 = really liked it
5 = love it, plan to purchase, and/or would buy it again if it was lost
I read a temporary digital ARC of the book for the purpose of review.
This is a lovely book filled with information and ideas to get parents and children birding together. The idea of stopping to observe and appreciate the world around you was emphasized. Includes information, trivia, observational techniques and activities, and crafts for every week if the year.
I Love Birds is a great starter birding book for kids. The book is broken up by seasons and encourages you to explore and observe the areas around you to be able to identify the birds in your neighborhood. It includes three parts in each season; observe, take note, and take action. The book includes places to make notes and write down what you see while observing your surroundings. It also has many projects to take part in as well. What I enjoyed most was all the bird facts such as migration patterns, wing speeds, and how much different birds need to eat. I highly recommend this bird book!
Thank you to Roost Books and NetGalley for this wonderful advanced copy in exchange for my honest review, my opinions are my own.
A charming, fun and educational guide to the world of birds. This book provides information and suggestions for activities to help any parent (even those who know nothing more than that a feathered creature is a bird) teach their child about birds and enjoy observing them. Separated by season, suggested activities provide a guide for families to find, identify and interact with birds all year long.
A richly illustrated book filled with activities that will occupy your bird-loving kids all year long!
*Thank you NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I was so excited to see a new bird book by Jennifer Ward. Great suggestions for young bird watchers and excellent information. I can’t wait to get a copy for my niece and nephew.
My nine-year-old daughter is obsessed with birds. This book is perfect for her! There is so much fun and information packed into this book, that I don't know where to start.
The book is divided into the four seasons. There are questions, note booking pages, bird descriptions, and crafts to make.
I love the illustrations, but I would have liked photographs of the birds for better identification. Overall, a fantastic book that I know parents and kids will love to explore together.
This book aims to enhance and encourage children's exploration of the natural world, and I believe it will achieve it. The art is fun yet realistic. The book is divided into unique categories, including topics and perspectives that other non-fiction bird books miss. My favourite part is the last section, which discusses New Year's Bird Resolutions, and encourages parents / kids to create a list of achievable bird goals (learning to identify bird calls, attracting new species to your backyard, etc). Books like this one are books that kids will remember forever.
Kudos to all who were involved with this book. The illustrations ate very appealing as is the design and structure of the book. Ward is very interested in helping adults and children to connect with nature. She previously wrote a book called I Like Dirt. She wants people of all ages to get outside, observe and enjoy the world around them.
This book’s contents are organized around the four seasons. There is information about birds, migration, food, habitats, etc. There are many projects for adults and children to do together. Observation and slowing down are also encouraged. In addition, there are short boxed entries with information and samples of things such as what a bird observation journal entry might look like.
I loved this book and highly recommend it. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.
