DNF: I tried so hard to like this book but I just found the characters annoying and the humor not my cup of tea. I didn't connect with it at all. I also found the repeated use of the same phrases over and over, sometimes in the same sentence, a complete distraction. I constantly had to stop reading to try to make sense of the way a sentence was worded, and then would have trouble getting back into the flow of the story. I got about 45% through and just had to give up.
1/5 stars.
This book was just not my cup of tea. I was expecting it to be very different. This book was way more bar scene.
This is the second book in a series. I didn't read the first book, so I might be at a disadvantage because of that, but it wasn't a good fit for me.
The book tells of strange events going on around the town where the main characters. who have aspirations of having their own paranormal reality show, are living. The amateur ghost hunters and local psychic investigate these happenings and discover they may be in over their heads and that the scares may be all too real.
The story was fine. I just don't think it's a good fit for me personally. The characters reminded me a little bit too much of some of the crews you see on some of the reality TV shows these days, like the folks that hunt Bigfoot. Since those shows aren't my cup of tea and I find those characters annoying, I can't give this book a fair shake. So, I'll put that judgment aside and say this book is worth a look if you aren't seriously looking for a scare and more interested in a goody crew hunting down a mystery. #netgalley #lastcalllimbo
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this arc.
I was in the mood for something silly and spooky just before Halloween when I requested this book. Must be me... but this wasn't what I wanted after all. It felt like I was stuck in the middle of a really long Seinfeld episode. And I just never got the point of either Seinfeld or this book. I just couldn't connect to any of the characters nor could I focus on the plot..... There were some comedic moments here and there, but even they felt pointless to me. Overall, there was much more effort than enjoyment for me in reading this one.
I really wanted to like this but just didn't get into it unfortunately.
This is the second book in the series; I haven't read the first one and won't be sadly.
The story follows some strange happenings in town, which affect most of the main group of characters and is investigated by a 'wannabe' amateur ghost hunter and a self-proclaimed psychic. The story was ok but I didn't warm to any of the characters, and actually found them quite annoying. At times my mind wandered and I found myself not concentrating and just wanting to get to the end (but not in a good way). There were quite a few words/sayings repeated throughout the book ('and then some') which was also frustrating for me.
I can see how the story and writing is meant to be humorous and witty but it just wasn't for me. Maybe it's my straight laced British sense of humour - who knows but it just didn't work well for me sadly.
Perhaps the best thing going in this book is that the story never takes itself too seriously. It’s as humorous and creative as the title and cover suggest. Well worth the read for those who like a nice layer of comedy with their genre fiction.
