Well the last book in this trilogy that features the Fae is simply fabulous and if you loved Dragos than Oberon is definitely the King for you ! Now why do I say that you may well wonder and the answer is simply that Oberon is the ultimate predator and in falcon Wyr Kathryn he has found worthy prey ! Not since Dragon Bound has the author given her readers such a menacing, powerful alpha male and I predict a lot of fans falling for his most menacing yet ultimately satisfying charms . Now it’s not a one sided story far from it as we get the awesomeness that is Kathryn. Magic user and highly skilled surgeon so you just know she can hold her own and go toe to toe with the best of them . Let’s be honest doctors can usually be perhaps a little arrogant at times but cunningly that’s not the beauty of Kathryn because she has empathy and a ruthless desire to do that which is right. In this story we see her come vividly to life not just as a love interest but as a woman of note. Add in the amazing descriptions of just how she combines magic with medicine and at times I almost forgot the overall plot but luckily this author knew exactly how to take this story and bring it to its glorious conclusion. For me this is by far the best of this trilogy although I’ve enjoyed the journey tremendously. I’m still left wanting more particularly more of the Puck ooh and if sometime we get Dragos and Oberon together I fear my heart will fly out my chest ! Another amazing story and I cannot wait to read more. This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Best book in the series. Really loved the strong heroine and equally strong hero. Well balanced. Could not put it down, read in one sitting.
Thea Harrison has a unique talent and it once again shines through in this last book of the Moonshadow series. King Oberon is magnificent and storyline and support cast is amazing too! So if you love everything magical, with some serious action and danger thrown in, then this is definitely a series for you. King Oberon is magnificent and the support cast is amazing too!
King Oberon of the dark fae was poisoned by one of Queen Isabeau of the light fae's assassins fifteen years ago or 200 years ago (depending on whether you are on earth or in Oberon's demesne of Lyonesse), after trying to find an antidote and trying every magical trick in his considerable arsenal Oberon realises that he is losing the battle against the deadly poison and puts himself into stasis. Unfortunately the poison is leaching him of his higher feelings: love; empathy; friendship; compassion, leaving him cold, suspicious and uncaring. As his emotions slowly disappear his inhumanity transmits itself to the landscape around him making much of Lyonesse uninhabitable and in the grip of a bleak winter colder than anyone has ever known. In a last ditch attempt to save Oberon, or usurp him for the good of Lyonesse, his right hand woman Annwyn enlists the assistance of the Wyr doctor Kathryn Shaw, a brilliant surgeon who combines modern medicine with magic to heal.
Can Kathryn heal Oberon? Can he return to the man he used to be or will he remain cold, aloof and paranoid?
There is so much that is great about this novel. Kathryn might only be a falcon in other form but she is a giant of a personality. Brilliant, charming, friendly, with a desire to heal people she also has principles and a temper to match Oberon's. For his part, Oberon is far from the stereotypical paranormal hero. Of course he has amazing magical powers, he has managed to become full Wyr in his attempts to thwart the poison and has the form of a giant lion. Yet he is also capable of great gentleness, he loves the capricious Puck and he cares for his people, even when his heart is cold.
What I loved most about this is that really Kathryn is the hero, not Oberon. She is a kick-ass character that doesn't need saving by some big, strong man. Thea Harrison has turned some of the tropes of the genre around and infused a breath of fresh air into shifter novels. (Still don't like the cover though).
I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
The story was pretty compelling from start to finish. The description of Kathryn's travel to get to Oberon was described so well that I could easily envision the scenery. The storyline was well thought out and I enjoyed the side characters immensely.
I loved Kathryn's character. She was a very strong heroine. Smart, respectable and made reasonable decisions which you would expect from a physician. I enjoyed her fights with Oberon. She really stood her ground when it was needed.
King Oberon had two faces in this book. You get to see the cold and unfeeling man who is poisoned by magic needle and the Oberon he was before and after the assassination attempt. He was beloved by his people and he loved his people with equal fervor. As a hero, I loved his intensity towards Kathryn.
This was so good. I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to follow along since I haven't read book 1 or 2 but I had no issues at all. You learn right away what happens to King Oberon and why Dr. Kathryn Shaw was needed. Granted, this has just made me want to read the first two books even more. I also loved the appearance from Dragos!
Dr. Katheryn Shaw is one of the most well-known surgeons on Earth. Her skill is virtually unmatched. But there are other surgeons so she's confused as to why the warriors of Lyonesse are so insistent that she has to be the one to save their lord, Oberon. He had been poisoned 15 years ago (in Lyonesse time, it was two hundred years ago on Earth because of the time slippage) by a needle that is slowly, magically working it's way toward Oberon's heart. And even though he's physically alive, the magic in the needle has killed all of his emotions. Even though he sleeps, his power rages around his countryside making it impossible for anyone to live there because it is so cold.
This was a fast-paced novel with action on every page. It made the romance a bit shallow but the reading was quick and interesting. I definitely would read the other two books in the series first but, if you have read the other two, you should like this one.
Three and a half stars
This book comes out today
ARC kindly provided by NetGalley
Squeeze!!! I,be been waiting for this book for what seems like forever and am so happy to have gotten an ARC.
This book is apart of the Moonshadow trilogy and apart of of Thea Harrison's elder races world. Don't read this book before others in the series. You might be able to get away with it but you miss out on alot of background on what's going on plot wise. In fact, I would recommend reading all of Thea Harrison's Elder Races series beforehand. Again for world building reasons but also because you run into some familiar characters from those books. The series as a whole is amazing although I do like some of the books better then others.
Anyway to the review. I loved the book. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but it was still amazing. You finally get to meet Oberon (obviously as he's our hero). His heroine is Kathryn, a Wyr, that you meet briefly in the first book in the trilogy.
Kathryn wasn't what I expected. She comes accross as very perfect in the book. She seems to meet every need that Oberon and his people need. When reading the book it doesn't seem that important but when writing this review it seemed a little over the top; in hindsight she seems a little too perfect. I still really loved her as a character though. The only thing I honestly disliked about her was minor. At one point she is to act like a therapist (this happens off screen). I find this strange as she is a surgeon not a therapist. Doctors today do like to treat the whole person but honestly she even says she doesn't have a lot of experience. I would have preferred she said she would help the patient but would also like to ask the patient to consult a specialist. For all I know she did consult a specialist but I wanted to know that. Again this is a minor point (really has no bearing on the romance or plotline) but it bugged me.
Oberon and his enchantment actually felt like it was too easy. I know that alot of time and alot was done to try and heal him but it felt there was no angst. I also felt that the ending also came too easy. Let's just say it felt anticlimactic.
Overall, I still loved the book alot. Oberon and Kathryn make a wonderful couple. It's a nice ending to the trilogy. I still hope to read more about the elder races in the future.
I received a free copy of LIONHEART (A Moonshadow Novel) by Thea Harrison in exchange for an honest review. Dr. Kathryn Shaw, a Wyr surgeon at the top of her field, is in high demand. In fact, she’s in the middle of a surgery when Dragos telepathically demands an audience. Dr. Shaw’s mission: to venture in the frozen pocket dimension of Lyonesse to save the life of the cursed fae King Oberon. When Dr. Shaw accidentally awakens him from his magical stasis, she doesn’t understand why his people are so devoted to someone so cold and bitter. Though physically drawn to his frosty highness, Dr. Shaw much preferred King Oberon’s when he was sleeping. Can Dr. Shaw save the king before his nemesis can invade the realm with the intent of conquering and slaughtering the people? In order to save the people, she’ll have to save the king.
I liked this book. I liked the snapshot of where it took place in time in reference to the New York community. If you enjoy Thea Harrison’s Wyr novels, you’ll definitely want to read this book.

Fan girl squealing here! I didn't think there would be another uber male alpha in Harrison's writing that might keep Dragos from being my favorite, but Oh, boy, does King Oberon give him a run for that title. The instant I finished Lionheart, my mind started playing all these scenarios where Dragos and Oberon have to interact...Pure swooning Joy! Okay, enough fan-girling. Here is what I thought of Lionheart...
Lionheart was an amazing book-cation! Swept away to a world of fae politics, the beloved doctor, who always holds her own against Dragos, has finally met her match in ferocity, stubbornness and pretty much everything else...King Oberon of the dark fae court.
Oberon has been shot by a deadly dart, his only hope is a spell that will keep him in a cryo-type sleep until someone can figure out how to stop the spelled dart without killing him. Even in sleep, the spelled dart is effecting his magic, creating a unlivable and chaotic realm. Dr. Kathryn Shaw is brought in as a last hope to save Oberon.
Shaw can really hold her own. I mean we've seen her face off against Dragos so she was the perfect person for the job, the only problem is the Oberon his subjects loved was overtaken by the evil magic of Isabeau, Queen of the Light Court.
Intense chemistry, intense battling and 100% character connection! What more can a reader ask for in an urban fantasy novel?
