A mixed bag, but an overall enjoyable one. Some pictures and juxtapositions didn't work for me, but I appreciated the artist's vision. Recommended if you'd like a quick glance at the world from another perspective!
I received a digital ARC from the publisher via Netgalley.
From Behind: A Peculiar Perspective of People & Places
by David Jerome is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary.
This is an art/photography book showing people and their backgrounds from behind. At first I just glanced through and didn't see what the artist wanted the reader wanted us to see. I slowed down and and looked at them again and noticed things I didn't see the first time and enjoyed it more. Some of them I still just thought were just "pictures".
This book had me scratching my head.
I snickered at a few of the shirt/hat sayings and felt like a creep as I looked at people from behind.
Author David Jerome offered a unique perspective to the world of photography. Images of people, places and things were all captured from behind. As if actually being there, I was overtaken with a sense of realism. Amusingly, there were times when I felt I was actually eavesdropping. Encountering the collaboration of these pictures made for an engrossing first.
I offer my gratitude to NetGalley and Smack Books for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
This was such an interesting book. It was amazing how much of a person you could see while never seeing their face. What they were, or in some cases what they weren't, their grooming, their partner, their friends, their hobbies, their opinions. Not to mention some of the most breath taking places.
One thing that might have been interesting to have a little blurb about where in the world the picture was taken included.
And oddly delightful book showing that people come in all shapes and sizes. This review has been left on Goodreads.
