Jordan's voice through the book is conversational, and as she shares some of her life experiences, and more than her fair share of wisdom nuggets, you'll feel as if you were sitting down for coffee (or pizza ;) ), and having this good, long conversation with her about pretty much anything (from how to deal with impostor syndrome and/or disappointment to body image, and so many other things). You won't regret grabbing this book and reading it. She's fun, she's down to earth, and she wants to help you. Believe me, you'll laugh, you'll cry and, bottom line, you'll relate so much you'll be saying "girl, same" pretty much from the get-go.
I knew absolutely nothing about Dooley going into this book, and I usually prefer it to be that way with authors in this personal development and/or faith-based non-fiction genre. So often, these books get picked up by the mainstream Christian women's wave and it sways the opinions of many readers. I prefer to formulate my own opinion. I thought this book was okay, but it lacked depth. I enjoyed learning about Dooley's life in the personal stories she shares. The chapters were quick and easy to read. There were quite a few good soundbites, but overall, there wasn't anything groundbreaking here. These inspirational books geared toward women of faith are a dime a dozen, sharing the same platitudes and encouragement. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
This book came to me just at the right time on the brink of my 30th birthday. I’m one of those people who have had my life planned out since high school. Seriously, knew all the college courses I would take, when I would take them etc. As I found out early in college, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” I changed from a pharmacy major to a psychology major my freshman year of college. My senior year of college, I decided to pursue graduate school and become a counselor. 5 years after graduating with my master’s, I still have not completed licensure for my counseling and I’m technically not working in a job that even needed that degree. I say all this to point out that planning got me nothing but a lot of heartburn and headaches. As I approach 30, and look at my list of things I wanted to accomplish before my 30th birthday, very few of those things have been accomplished and this book helped me understand that, THAT’S OK.
I say it again for the one’s in the back, IT’S OK! Goals change, people change and your life path certainly isn’t a straight line.
Thank you to WaterBrooks and Multnomah for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Great book. The author has a really great writing style that makes the book easy to read and enjoyable to partake in.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is a book that I will definitely purchase a hard copy of, despite having already read the e-book for this review. It’s the kind of book that I want to highlight, and scribble notes into the margins and think about during those minutes when I crawl in bed and wait for sleep. Jordan Lee Dooley shares many insights into living a life of purpose, but one of the most essential is that I don’t have to have my perfect life plan completely mapped out and be successfully 2/3 of the way through it before I can live a life of purpose. NO MATTER WHAT SEASON OF LIFE YOU ARE IN, YOU CAN HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT. Putting the ideas in this book into practice can be a world changer!
Amazing and motivational! Jordan really knows how to connect with you, and get you to look at truly being who you were made to be. On my second time through....a must read!
I love to follow the authors' blog and social media posts, so I was really looking forward to reading through this book. I found it to be very encouraging, inspiring and motivational. There are so many good takeaways from this work that I look forward to sharing it with others. I am deeply inspired and moved as a result of Jordan's gems.
A million, gajillion stars!!!! Ladies, go quickly and find yourselves a copy because this book is going to hit you deep!!!
Two of my friends really like Jordan Lee Dooley and follow her social media. Every so often, they'd send me a quote or something but I never really followed her. Then I heard she wrote a book. A book is a small commitment and I love reading so I was intrigued. Plus, then I could discuss it with my friend :)
Oh. My. Goodness.
This book is AMAZING!!!! I was sticky-noting the heck out of it because she just kept saying things that hit me so deeply.
Jordan's book is conversational. It's not a memoir or self-help book, but more of some good tips and things that she has learned or is learning. She is just honest and offers things that have helped her and might help you.
There was a good bit about finding purpose in the here and now and not wasting what you have longing for the future. I've done my share of that. My friends and I always played that we were older than we were. It was five simple words, but I think they're going to be up on several walls in my home one day: this is the good stuff.
Whatever season you are in, whatever is coming that you might be excited about and longing for, that's not the good stuff. It might be good too, but it's not like you have to wait for the good stuff. It's here. Now. Right where you are and right in front of you.
I'm not just putting that up in my home one day. It's going to be on a sticker on my laptop and on the cork board by my bed and on the wall by my door. Anywhere I can see it often and remember. When I'm longing for the next step or the next season, when I'm tired of waiting, I can look and see "this is the good stuff".

I loved Jordan's honesty and vulnerability as she shares her story and struggles while giving the reader a encouragement to live your life fully instead of letting life happen to you. Jordan's personality really shines through her writing, making it feel like you are getting a pep talk from a friend.
I’m older than the target audience (36) but enjoyed the book. Fail forward and hearing it is okay to try a lot of things is so counter-cultural that I can’t hear it enough.
Are you waiting for the season you're currently in to pass?
I picked up Own Your Everyday during an extremely difficult time in my life where I felt like I had to put everything I wanted to do on hold. This book really challenged me to stop acting like my life was temporarily over and to start dreaming big again. That dreaming led to looking at what steps I could take in the meantime. I loved the book so much that I bought the audible version so I could hear Jordan speaking these truths into my life!
I really enjoy books that I can relate to. Books that I can incorporate into my life. Jordan shares her everyday live/struggles and how to overcome the rough patches. Life isn't promised to be easy but we can live fully through all the seasons. Jordan offers suggestions & advice to make ourselves the best person possible. It is so well written, it was hard to put down.
If you need a kick in the pants, and some friendly words, this is the book for you! Jordan shares some of her own struggles, shares what she learned through them, and shares some practical steps on how to address those struggles head on. Read this book with a highlighter, because you're going to want to go back to some of these chapters and quotes over and over again.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher.
I received an advanced digital copy of this book. I could not put it down and I could not stop highlighting sentences that resonated with me! The title of the Introduction section at the beginning of the book is "Your Brokenness is Welcome Here"... talk about pulling me in right away! Because who of us is not broken? I just pulled up my Kindle App on my iPad so that I could quote some of the parts that I had highlighted, and all my highlights are gone :( So, you will just have to take my word for that fact that almost every page had something highlighted. There are 14 chapters in this book and Jordan speaks truth from the heart in every single chapter. Probably the 3 that resonated with me the most at the time of reading this book were: chapter 6 "Overcome Shame by Sharing", chapter 7 "Overcoming Comparison with Compassion and Communication" and Chapter 13 "Get Out of Your Own Way". I ordered 4 copies of this book once I had read it, one for me (so I can re-read and transfer highlights... now re-highlighting) and 3 to give away as gifts. We had over 1,000 people on the book launch team and I didn't see one single person say that they didn't connect to this book. Own Your Everyday has something for everyone! Grab yourself a copy and you can thank me later :)
I hadn't heard of Jordan Lee Dooley before reading this book and I'm so glad I read it! She really speaks to me. This is a very empowering book and I recommend it to all of my friends.
This is the kind of book you can read over and over again, gaining something new each time. You can literally never hear this advice too many times. The way Jordan writes - using stories from her own experiences, combined with easy to follow "tips" makes applying the advice that much easier.
The content Jordan is putting forward is simple but full of truth. She makes "owning your everyday" something to be proud of - she makes you see where you already shine, how to overcome the obstacles, and how to dream big dream/achieve big things!
The best part about this book? It reads like a letter from a dear, wisdom filled, and hilarious friend - and that's something you just can't beat.
Don't wait another second - get yourself a copy of this book and see what I'm talking about!
Such a great book full of real talk! Simple and practical steps to be present and make the most of each day! I highlighted so much and will continue to go back to the nuggets of wisdom in this book and share it with others. Perfect gift for new grads also!
This book truly blessed me! I received an advanced copy. I love how Jordan used experiences from her life to show us how God is shaping us. I especially related to her when she was trying to join a sorority. College is such a time of development and figuring out who we really are away from our families for the first time. We all go through times in our lives when we aren’t sure what our purpose is, or what we are supposed to be doing with our lives. Jordan encourages us to think about what we make priorities. I know I am guilty of spending too much time on social media platforms. I often feel not good enough or like I am striving to keep up with others. This book will encourage you to live life to the fullest and to become who God meant for you to be!
This is one of those books I will be retreading throughout life! Jordan Dooleys book is a dear friend filled with honest wisdom and vulnerability, laughs and a nudge towards who we are meant to be. She reminds us that our worth comes from who made us, not what we do. Taking the pressure to perform for others away, she gives practical tips on living your dream and owning each day in big and small ways. My copy is highlighted all over with encouragement, practical ideas, and reminders of grace and tenacity. Although I’m a mom of young kids, this book is important for high schoolers, college students, and adults alike. Get a copy and one to share!
