This book really is a game-changer! Jordan spoke right into my heart and every chapter was filled with stories that were totally relateable, practical advice, and encouragement that spurred me to take action. I haven't read a book that pushes me toward my goals and towards Jesus at the same time like this one does. I'm recommending it to ALL my friends and every woman out there.
Through reading my ARC, I fell in love with this book. The writing is polished, yet down-to-earth. Jordan's writing is so relatable. Reading this book feels like sitting down to coffee with a good friend.
Where to start....Jordan writes as if she's literally sitting next to you on your couch, sipping coffee and chatting about life-the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's that personable. It's that authentic. You already feel like you're best friends, which makes reading this so much better.
I want to share this book with every woman and girl. Jordan's realness is a breath of fresh air in this social media driven age that bombards us with all these positive truths and "realness", but Jordan takes a step back and address the normalness we tend to lose sight of in all that. I can't wait for another one in the future.
The manuscript that NetGalley provided was for Purpose, not Own Your Everyday. So, I am not certain if anything within the manuscript changed or if only the title, subtitle, and book cover image changed.
Regarding Purpose, I felt like it was written in a choppy way -- stringing tweet-able sentences together. The intended audience wasn't clear, as I often felt talked-down-to as if the author was writing to teenagers while talking about marriage, jobs, and grades. I definitely would not recommend or purchase Purpose, but it could have greatly changed between that manuscript and Own Your Everyday! This review and rating are for the Purpose manuscript.
This is an excellent book for the perfectionist who is trying to escape the confines of their own making. While the book is supported with scripture, there's so much to be gained by those with religion and those without.
Purpose is a book that would speak to women of all generations. Many out there are wondering "what's my purpose?" and many struggle with insecurities, expectations and the pressure to prove oneself. This book will guide you through the many obstacles women today face and help you overcome lies from the enemy so you can live your true purpose right where you are and just as you are: a beloved daughter of God.
I love Jordan’s down to earth and conversational style. She’s open about her struggles and approaches everything with such relatability.
Purpose is just as good as her podcast and her blog. You won’t be disappoint.
My favorite part was how she added in action steps to help put her advice into play.
You can let life happen to you, or you can live your life with purpose. It is up to you. But it isn’t easy. What is getting in the way of you living out your purpose in life? Jordan Lee Dooley shares things that have kept her from living her full purpose and explores other common hiccups we face in this life, ultimately encouraging readers to overcome and live the life of purpose God has called us to.
I really like that the author’s age gives her a wide age-range audience appeal. She writes of single days and married days, teen days, college days, and adulting struggles. She should resonate just as much with teens, college students, and those decades older than her. She writes with a refreshing, friendly style that feels like you’re talking to an old friend. She isn’t lecturing, but she’s sharing from the heart some hard lessons she’s learned in hopes you can learn those same lessons the easier way. This book isn’t as much about finding your “calling” as it is about living the life God wants you to live and what often gets in the way of that. I appreciate the way Dooley is open and honest about her own personal struggles, and I found her suggestions to be solid and inspiring. Whether you’re a new Christian or seasoned believer, there are refreshing reminders in here to keep your Christian walk healthy. Highly recommended for any woman who wants to grow in their Christian walk.
I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Purpose, by Jordan Dooley, truly inspired me. The author speaks to women struggling with difficult periods in their lives, as well as perfectionism, shame, insecurities, distractions, rejection, and other obstacles to peace and emotional well-being. Dooley is a wonderful storyteller, and she uses highly relatable metaphors from everyday life to illustrated her points. I loved this book and found it very helpful. Highly recommended.
