This was a pretty fun book to read, and I can recommend it if you're looking for a light and easy romance.
Kissing frogs is a common analogy used especially by those looking for love. It is said that before you find the 'one' you would have to go through many someones to get to your prince charming. This is what Kate has to do after her mother advertises for someone to "please date her daughter".
Embarrassment aside, Kate has to go on dates to keep her mother from fulfilling the rest of her threats. What follows is a funny and relatable sequence of events as KT goes from one terrible date to another. The book cover actually shows one of those dates so you can guess how that one turned out. There is also an unfortunate experience with speed dating that left me giggling like mad.
Kissing Frogs is the perfect blend of romance and humor that will leave you in a good mood for the rest of the day. You will fall in love with Kate and Mark from the first chapter to the last. I highly recommend this book to romance/chicklit/humor readers
Great humorous book! I really enjoyed the extreme steps Kate's mom went to for her, proving that there is nothing you won't do for your child and to see her happy. The situations were at times hilarious and cringe-worthy (in a thank goodness that wasn't me kind of way). I am proud to say that I laughed my way through this book. I would definitely recommend it to others. I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion.
Horrified to see her photo on digital screens in Pimlico tube station clearly stating that she was looking for a date, leads Kate Turner on a new path.
Kate's mum wants grandchildren and she thought this idea was brilliant. When family friend Mark turns he tries to support both of the ladies.
Will this plan work or will she have to keep kissing frogs until she finds her Prince?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you for the chance to read this! I enjoyed it quite a bit. As promised, it was funny and easy to read. It definitely highlights the downside of the dating scene and the cringe moments are all too real.
Kate (hate! Haha) is forced into finding a man by her mother and while she wants someone, it takes a long time before she opens her eyes to what’s in front of her.
I wanted to give it 4 stars however it did sadden me to see mark date someone else and I would’ve liked to have had more scenes in the house while they were living together to really get to know each other. 3.5 stars.
Kissing Frogs by Tori Turnbull is the funniest book I have read in a long time, and I loved it. Kate Turner is 29 years old, and her mother is tired of waiting for grandchildren. So Mom advertised on a digital billboards in the underground of London, writing Date my daughter please with a terrible picture. It is a book where you laugh out loud and people stare at you. I strongly recommend this book for comedy romance lovers, you won't be disappointed. I will be reading more by this author.
I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Kate is 29 years old, single and living alone. Her mother is desperate for her to find a nice man and settle down, so much that she takes matters into her own hands and ends up advertising her daughter on the London Underground.
Yes Date my Daughter plan was in full swing and could be viewed on the tubes of London.
In order to give her mother peace of mind and to stop her from interfering Kate agrees to try to find a boyfriend.
However a few of disastrous dates, and a spell in prison, Kate beings to think that dating is pointless and she will never find the one. Despite her dating attempts is Kate looking in the right direction? Could the one be right under her nose?
When I read reviews about books that say 'very funny' or ' laugh out loud' I tend to be a bit wary, however Kissing Frogs was very funny and had me laughing after the first page. These made a great contrast as I was reading a gory psychological thriller beforehand, so it made a nice change.
Despite a predictable plot, I really enjoyed this book! Kissing Frogs would make a great winter read. Just curl up on the sofa with a hot chocolate, the book that will take you on a funny heart warming journey.
When Kate Turner entered the subway station, didn't expect to see a huge picture of herself (and not a good one, either) advertising for a date with her. That's what happens when your mother is tired of not getting her only daughter married with children. Add Mark, a childhood nemesis, who encourages her mother to force her to go on some dates to find herself a husband in two months, and we have a delicious comedy, even if predictable.
Mark helps Kate find suitable men, after all, one has to kiss a few frogs between finding the one that hides the prince. But it seems the prince was not hiding among all those dating sites.
I really laughed aout loud at some absurd scenes, and I loved the bickering between Mark and Kate. That mom, though... let's say I wouldn't want her as mine.
Mr right, Mr Wrong or Mr perfect. Good read. Enjoyed the characters but did feel it was slightly predictable. Would love to read more about the main female character again.
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was an enjoyable, decent rom com with a quirky heroine who's mother pays for a dating ad to be displayed with a horrible picture of her daughter. This leads to a series of disastrous dates with lots of cringe worthy moments. Mark is her childhood best friend who apparently has a massive crush on her and volunteers to help her get through her dates in one piece. She gradually discovers shes attracted to him and engages in sexual activities while still trying to date other men.
Now while understand that her mother has humiliate and shamed Kate into dating, this does not excuse the reckless and senseless acts of going on meaningless dates with strangers in order to prove a point. One even turns out to be a stalker. She purposely stays in questionable situations that make her uncomfortable all for the sake of improving her odds of getting a man. She comes off as a insecure, whiny and sometimes childish with no idea what she's looking for even when it's staring her in the face. Not my idea of an ideal protagonist.
While Mark does his best to protect her and show her how he feels about her, he also encourages and perpetuates this behavior.
If you like silly Rom com with a less than perfect heroine but a decent storyline, I'd recommend this one.
I enjoyed reading this book quite a lot. I liked the story and I didn't have any trouble connecting with the characters. Kate and Mark were perfect for eachother in my opinion. I liked their bickering and banter very much. The storyline kept me interested and there were many very funny moments that made me laugh out loud.
My only 2 problems with this book were Kate, the heroine and the fact that Mark, the hero, dated another girl while he was supposed to be in love with Kate. Kate came across quite judgemental and shallow and immature on quite a few ocassions (like calling Barbie all those names because she was jelous and Barbie looked a certain way, and don't get me started on her attitude and judgemental comments at the speed dating event). These were a major downsides for me so that's why I'm giving this book 3 stars and not 5. But this was still a very sweet and enjoyable read and I'd recommend it to my frinds despite the things that bothered me about it. I'm also looking forward to reading more from Ms. Turnbull.
This is a fun and funny book that I just loved. Kate's mom has decided it's time for Kate to settle down and give her grandchildren. She takes extreme steps to help Kate find someone to settle down with....the kind of extreme steps that come with such fun accessories as handcuffs and restraining orders.... Truly, the author has taken a familiar trope and turned and twisted it into something unique and thoroughly entertaining.
If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. This is the author's first novel, but I'm looking forward to reading her future books. She is an author to watch and I can't wait to see what she writes next.
