When Lily gets hired to help take care of Jake's mom, they both got more than they bargained for. Sparks aplenty, and both understand each other so well. Both are vets who are suffering from PTSD, and both give each other what they need. The cover is a little misleading, since the puppies come in towards the end. I kept waiting for them. Enjoyed this one, although felt a little didactic at times., although it did help to give me a stronger understanding of what these people are suffering from. Perhaps more balance between that and the romance would have made it better for me, but otherwise a good story and one I highly recommend.
Jake and Lily are so lucky to have such great guardian angels. That is exactly what the owners of the Wind River Valley ranch are for everyone of the Vets that they have working for them. I love how respectful and patient Jake is with Lily. He knows some of what she is going through, so he is better able to help her out. Funny thing is, Lily is the one that is suppose to be helping him.
I was so happy to finally see Jake get his happy ever after. The way the author blends their combat experiences in these books in such stark reality gets you in the feels every time. Each Wind River hero and heroine is such a breath of fresh air. Their realities so close to those our men and women in fatigues have seen. I love how she also blends in the facts and statistics that really make you think and put yourself in their shoes while bringing home awareness of their struggles is seamless. I have never enjoyed a series as much as I have this one.
HOME TO WIND RIVER is another great story by Lindsay McKenna, a wonderful storyteller. This book not only has romance and puppies, but covers with grace the serious problem of PTSD. If only we could turn this story into reality! The support that all our vets could use fill the pages of this book. Kudos to Lindsay McKenna!
Although this book is a series, and this is the only book I have read, I didn't think it mattered. Set around a ranch where a lot of the staff are ex-military. Jake is the ranch foreman, and when his injured mother comes to stay, Lily is employed as her nurse. Both Lily and Jake are learning to live with PTSD and are drawn to each other, but niether thinks they have anything to offer. An emotional read.
