Rebecca Zanetti delivers an entertaining and engaging read!
I always love coming back to the Dark Protectors world. DEMON'S MERCY features Zane's youngest brother Logan and a new character, Mercy O'Malley. The story is fast-paced, exciting and held me captive to the very last page. The chemistry between Logan and Mercy is steamy and oftentimes funny. There're several surprises along the way, including cameos from previous Dark Protector characters. I really enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one!
***I voluntarily read a Net Galley of the book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings are my own***
I was so excited to see this ARC available on NetGalley. Rebecca Zanetti is one of my all-time favorite authors and the Dark Protectors are my favorite paranormal romance series.
With that being said, I loved Demon's Mercy. It was a fast paced, action filled book. The chemistry between Mercy and Logan is blazing and Zanetti kept you on your toes wondering what would happen next. I can't wait for the next book!
Who are the bad guys here? That's what I was saying for quite a while in this book.
Rebecca introduces us to the Fae for the first time in this edition of the Dark Protectors and what an adventure. Logan Kyllwood is the youngest of the Demon/Vampire brothers and about to become the last of "The Seven". These are the elite group of warriors who will protect the world from the evil Kurjan Cyst Ulric, currently in a dimensional prison. Mercy O'Malley manages to kidnap him with the help of her friends Trina & Sandy. Mercy is Fae, one of 10 cloned from genetic material found after all but 40 of the Fae died in a dimensional blunder when they attempted to make a new home when their planet was destroyed. Those surviving were off world when it happened. Now they are on earth and realize The Seven are about to disrupt the dimensional balance once again. In order to save the world they decide The Seven can never be complete so they seek to kill Logan. Mercy cannot abide the killing so seeks to reason with Logan and his brothers.
This is an action driven suspenseful story making you guess almost all the way through. Why is Logan so drawn to Mercy? What is the Fae up to? Can they succeed or are they getting help? Will the Demons, Vampires and other allies listen? Oh I loved this story all the way through. Thank you Rebecca and Kensington for the opportunity to review this story.
Logan is a vampire-demon hybrid, and one of the deadliest fighters in the Realm, he is set to become part of the Seven, Logan’s initiation will complete the group, and he is gearing up to undergo the mystical, potentially deadly ceremony. Mercy is fae, her race is facing extinction. In order for her people to survive, Mercy must fulfill her duty and take out the Vampire-Demon, Logan. She decides to appeal to his protective side and kidnap him. I really enjoyed this book,it was well written and had an interesting storyline. Logan and Mercy were great complex characters and they had amazing chemistry. The story had intrigue, suspense, secrets, humor and love. A fantastic read that kept me turning the pages from beginning to end.
I received a readers copy of this book through NetGallery and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
Demon's Mercy by Rebecca Zanetti is book Nine in the Dark Protectors Series. This is the story of Logan Kyllwood and Mercy O’Malley. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book. Mercy and Logan are set to be enemies but their is a connection of desire between the two along with real feelings that are growing. They both were to complete their assignments to up hold their family but with each touch and day they can't seem to turn from the other.
Exciting read!
Demon's Mercy is the second book in the new arc of Zanetti's Dark Protectors series. Featuring our favorite demon, Logan Kyllwood, and his mate Mercy O'Malley, Demon's Mercy breaks open the insularity of the first book and opens the new world to a wider cast of characters. This is a very good thing.
Logan is a fun character to read about. I enjoyed the glimpses into his past and childhood with his brothers and I thought this fed well into his motivations. He's a pretty complex character with a strong foundation coming from the first arc of this series. His placement in Vampire's Faith helped to make that book better so getting his story sooner rather than later is pretty awesome.
But then there's Mercy. Because Mercy is insane? Hmmm... she might be described that way. But my initial feeling about Mercy was different. She was in a cult, incapable of questioning what she was told and furiously parroting the same things over and over as if somehow saying them made them true. Mindless, unthinking, and so focused on her belief that she couldn't even question anything. I blame her upbringing.
Mercy would be close to TSTL if it weren't for the fact that she is that way for a good reason. Mercy's backstory is probably the strangest I've encountered in this series. She's Fae (or as the demons say, fairy) and they are thought to be a myth by most other paranormals. There's a good reason for that, it appears. Their society is certainly unique. I sympathized with her as much as I wanted to beat her with her own hand. Until...
The plot takes a turn. With all the initial craziness - tazering, multiple kidnappings, torture, you know, a typical day in the Realm - things got interesting fast. When the Fae go all out crazy, they do an impressive job of it. But demons are pretty wild too and the constant back and forth between Logan and Mercy was wild. But during a moment of not reading (I had to work! *gasp*), I was thinking about the book and how the only real way something made sense was if...
BAM! I pick up the book and sure enough. I'm right! The whole thing gets blown wide open and suddenly Logan is doing his thing and Mercy is doing her thing and the world is blowing up! I want to know and I want to know now! That was kind of how this book ended for me. Not in a cliffhanger but in a "holy smokes, tell me more" eagerness to get on with the story.
In order of want: Adare, Quade, Sam, Garrett... Everyone else can come later. While I know none of them is the principal of the next book, I am still eagerly awaiting it because this book just blew it all out of the water.
Dark Protectors #9, Logan! Finally Logan and boy does he meet his match, toe to toe practically the whole way Mercy is no push over. Even as number 9 in the series it can be read as a standalone but if you want more background for this story arc you would really only have to read the one before it, Vampire's Faith. This story arc deals with one very very big bad one that has the potential to end so much but before he breaks out and spreads havak the super secret group, The Seven, that put him away in the first place must replace it's missing members and finally kill big bad. One has been filled, Garret Karys, he barely made it through the ritual and now they are just waiting for the perfect opportunity to have Logan Kyllwood go through the same ritual and hope he too makes it through alive.
The Seven are about to face a foe they have never fought before, instead of just fighting the Kurjans and their high priests the Cysts who are hell bent on freeing big bad they are now fighting the Fae nation. It's not as intimidating as it sounds their numbers are far fewer but they also have technologies and abilities no one in the Realm has seen before. Mercy O'Malley doesn't agree with the way her people are handling this, so she kidnaps Logan instead of outright killing him and tries to explain what the Seven is doing is wrong but in typical Zanetti fashion everything goes FUBAR. One touch, one bite, one sip of his blood and suddenly Logan's mating mark is burning his hand and demanding he take Mercy as his mate.
One positive thing about reading the previous book, especially the spin-off Realm Enforcers, is you really get to see what fun loving and a jokester Logan is and you get to see how finding his mate and fulfilling his destiny matures him. Logan goes full on Alpha male "Me Tarzan, You Jane" kind of moments and it's funny and aggravating all at the same time to have Mercy fighting with him almost the whole way. The whole Fae Nation is pretty obstinate and it makes Mercy's stubborn look open minded. Fucking Fae.
Overall, I really enjoyed Mercy and Logan. If you are already a fan of Zanetti you'll enjoy it and if you are new and you have a thing for a Neanderthal-ish main character and a loyal and adamant fae who's going to do her own thing anyway mixed with lots of fight scenes, a few double crosses, and some really hot romance there's a really good chance you'll enjoy this one. I have been a fan of Zanetti's for a while now and I always enjoy her writing she writes her action and suspense so well, she really know how to build the tension and her romance and sex are so freakin' hot. I can't wait for the rest of the series, Garret is going to be just like his dad and I'm anxious to find out about Hope and the rest of her story.
Demon’s Mercy by Rebecca Zanetti
Dark Protectors #9
What fun to see what is happening with some of my favorite characters! In this book vampir-demon-hybrid Logan Kyllwood meets his mate and what a time they have as Mercy O’Malley tries to convince Logan and the rest of the protectors that she is right and they are wrong. What is the issue? Oh...just the world as we know it and how to keep it from spinning away into nothing or perhaps if it stays being overtaken by evil that nobody wants to have in charge. There is chemistry between the two and neither trusts the other – with good reason – and there is intrigue and some people that are not on the same page and others that are sure their page is the only one everyone should be on. This was a fun, action-packed, steamy story with two strong characters that found their way to one another AND it left me wanting to find out what will happen in book ten...I can hardly wait!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books – Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
Logan and Mercy shouldn't work together, but they do. Mercy, a Fey, believes that Logan has to be gotten rid of so The Seven cannot be completed because it will destroy dimensions. Logan believes The Seven needs to be complete in order to save them. They shouldn't work as a couple because of their opposite beliefs, but they do. I really enjoyed them together.
It was nice to see characters from the previous book again. I'm looking forward to reading more about Logan's brother Sam, as well as reading more about Hope and Drake, her Kurjan friend that she meets in a dream world.
This book does not work as a stand alone. If you haven't, I recommend starting with Vampire's Faith since that's where the story arc about The Seven begins. It would be helpful to start there to get a better understanding of The Seven and what they are trying to accomplish. If you jump in with this book, you may be a little confused or feel like you're missing something.
Demon's Mercy is filled with action and romance. This author never disappoints and I'm looking forward to seeing where she's going to take the series next.
**A copy was provided by Netgalley for an honest review**
I have been a fan of the Dark Protectors from the first book. This novel introduces us to another supernatural species, the Fae.
Logan Kyllwood is part of a ruling family of vampire/demon hybrids, a soldier from a very young age, and a protector of all who matter to him. Imagine his surprise when he is assigned to follow a woman, "key" to the survival of the Realm and finds himself kidnapped.
Mercy O'Malley feels that if she can just tell him the truth that he will listen and she can save him from a more dire fate.
Logan and Mercy are attracted to each other at once, but are supposed to be on opposite sides. I loved Logan's perseverance, loyalty and ultimate alpha maleness. Mercy is small, feisty, intelligent, deceitful, Fae, and a total match for Logan. She is not a push-over and surprises Logan at every turn. At risk for her is the survival of her species, for him is the survival of the Seven and subsequently the survival of the women of the Realm.
I feel that in this book there are a lot of other story lines and not a lot of Logan and Mercy's relationship. There is the mating mark, so they know that they are mates, but their ability to actually stay in one place and develop their friendship to love was a little light in the telling.
I did enjoy seeing so many folks from the previous Dark Protectors novels. I think that clash of the Kurjans and Cysts against the Realm/Seven is building with each mating of the Seven members.
I received this novel as an ARC from NetGalley and these opinions are entirely my own.
Logan is one of my favorites. Lots of suspense and things getting blown up. Mercy keeps surprising Logan until he figures out that he has to stop underestimating her. Then they work together to stop the bad guys.
Looking forward to the next one.
Demon’s mercy is the 9th volume in the Dark Protector series by Rebecca Zanetti. From the series you’ll find my review for only one volume: Vampire’s Faith, the first volume in the new storyline arc of the series.
I must precise that originally I didn’t want to read this book at all. But when we love an author, we know we won’t like all her books so we go on reading her new publications all the same. And when I closed this book, I gave it the rating it deserved on GR: 5 stars LOL.
The story starts some times after the end of Vampire’s Faith and the hero is Logan Kyllwood. I love Logan. I discovered him in Wicked Ride and his duo with Garrett Kayrs made him one the characters fans love (I think). It’s also a character who evolved well between the moment I met him and now in the volume dedicated to him (and he has had to grow since the beginning of the series). Either way, this character who grows like this shows in my opinion Rebecca Zanetti’s narrative quality. One has to wonder how far she imagined her series.
To come back to the story, Logan is a demon who meets Mercy (hence the title) O’Malley in a precise goal: he must kidnap her to protect her because she represents an important element in their fight against absolute evil.
When they meet, he’s sure she’s a fragile little thing too naive and he’s quickly disillusioned when he finds himself a victim instead of a predator.
Mercy is a species we’ve not met yet in this series so I let the readers discover it. She’s also got a very precise goal concerning Logan.
When I read the previous volume I had a problem with sequence of events past and present and I mentioned it in my review with a little scathing remark “During all my reading I was thinking: All that fuss for nothing.” With Demon’s Mercy I “take back” all that I’ve said. Rebecca Zanetti gives a new momentum to this series and I love the turn it takes. So I can’t wait to read the next volume Alpha’s Promise, expected for June 2019. The novel will feature Ivar Kjeidsen who has a big adventure in this book.
Concerning the action: there’s a ton of it LOL. That doesn’t stop from the beginning to the end. What’s more, as a lot of things happen, we have the points of view of different characters, which is great but also frustrating when we want to know what’s happening to the heroes and we have to “wait” the end of another scene. No doubt about it, Rebecca Zanetti knows how to keep the reader on his toes.
With the meeting between Logan and Mercy, we have another facet of Logan we had never seen so far: a man torn between his feelings for the heroine and his mission, which is why he becomes vulnerable and we have the feeling he’s missing his usual ferocity. But be reassured, during the important fights, we can count on him.
As much as the attraction between the heroes is undeniable and fast, they take time before getting it on, which is normal in this context. So we have few love scenes but sensuality largely compensates.
In short, I think you’ll have understood I loved this volume that gives a new lease of life to this series. If I have only one criticism to make, it’s on the fact there’s too much dithering from the heroine but when we know of her past we can understand she’s got trouble to trust. I appreciated the reversal of the situation concerning her people, showing all isn’t all white or all black. I just wanted to shake them at times.
If you don’t know this series and want to begin a long paranormal series this one is for you. One thing is certain, fans will love it.
What happens when you kidnap a demon/vampire hybrid? When it is Logan, soon to be one of the Seven, you do it very carefully. Mercy, one of the Fae has kidnapped Logan with the help of her friends. Now what? She doesn't want to kill him, just keep him from the ritual that will change him forever. Mercy and Logan have a lot of chemistry together. They know that war is coming between the demon nation and the Fae. The Fae are more advanced but the hybrids are stronger. If the demon hybrids won't listen, the world will be destroyed. Mercy is to mate Niall, king of the Fae to help keep the bloodline pure. Not many Fae are young enough to reproduce and it has been made clear that those of a certain age, will mate. Mercy doesn't want to mate Niall, especially after she has met Logan. When Sam, Logan's brother is kidnapped, they have to find him. Mercy was kidnapped as well but has now aligned herself to the demons. Will Logan do the ritual to make him one of the Seven? What about the feelings between Logan and Mercy? Rebecca Zanetti keeps you reading. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. I really loved this book. I received this book from Net Galley and Escape Publishing for a honest review. The opinions expressed are my own. 5+
Anyone that knows me or reads my reviews knows I love Rebecca Zanetti! Like a crazy fan girl love. Dark Protector series is my all time favorite paranormal romance and I was over the moon when Rebecca started writing books in the Dark Protector series again. When I got on Netgalley and seen Logan's book, I lost it. I love me some Logan, Sam and Garrett and I was so excited to read Logan's HEA. Rebecca Zanetti once again knocked it out the park. I loved this book. Logan was just so yummy. Add in Garrett, Talen, Dage and Zane and I was in Dark Protector heaven!
Logan was just so amazing in this book. Protective, sexy, dominant, and loyal. The male had the patience of a saint. He was everything I love about Zanetti's heroes and he stole my heart. Mercy on the other hand took a bit longer to warm up too. Don't get me wrong I liked Mercy, but Lord I wanted to shake some sense into her. At times she was so annoying running from my Logan, charging head first without thinking things through. I was surprised it took Logan so long to tie her butt to a bed lol. Now that being said Mercy was smart, sweet and playful. I thought Logan and Mercy had great sexual chemistry and made a really cute couple.
The plot of this book was action pack and had some twist and turns I didn't see coming. I was really glad that Garrett and Logan are no longer keeping secrets from their family. I am hoping it will mean more time with my favorite Kayrs from past books. I need more Talen, Dage, Jase, Conn, and Kane. I just need more of all of them! OMG My heart broke for Quade and Ivar. I need Quade to get his HEA and he needs a good one for the hell he has been through. Just sayin'! Also I am really curious about Adare and his backstory. Of course I always want more Hope. She was so cute in this book. She reminds me a lot of her mother. Overall another great book in an epic series. I did take one star off because Mercy drove me crazy at time, but still it was a great read. I can't wait for the next one.
Good characters and a great plot equals an enjoyable read. There is nothing average or mundane about these characters who are driven by loyalty to each other and love of family. It has suspense, secrets, humour,of course, at times aggravating family dynamics. Neither the violence or sex is gratuitous. This is reading that allows us to escape to another realm without insulting our intelligence. Well done I will definitely recommend to a friend.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Logan is part demon and all...HAWT! Mercy seems to have bitten off more than she can chew when she takes on a mission to trap Logan. Mercy may have all kinds of tricks up her fae sleeve but Logan is a can of surprise she did not reckon on.
Mercy gives Logan a run for his money and just tilts her chin at him when he continually tries to dominate her, LOL.
Twists, turns and adrenaline pumping action!
Demon's Mercy (Dark Protectors, #9) by Rebecca Zanetti is a highly anticipated addition to the Dark Protectors Series. This is a paranormal romance with plenty of action and suspense. It's the long awaited story of Logan Kyllwood as he takes his place among the Seven to protect the Realm and other Nations from ultimate evil. Mercy O'Malley is the financial guru for what’s left of the Fae Nation and quite an entertaining character, but the Fae can no longer sit idly by as the worlds created by the Seven begin to collapse and she must choose between duty or love. This story has everything you come to expect from this author and The Dark Protectors. It’s entertaining and seamless. The chemistry between Logan and Mercy is spectacular while navigating the landmines of love and war. I love that the author doesn’t let the series stagnate by injecting new situations and characters while staying true to the series. This book is a definite recommend to start your year off right!
A long forgotten race enters into the mix with a promise of war with the Realm. New, dire knowledge on dimension/dreamworld travel comes to light, along with insights on how the Seven might actually defeat Ulric, with the prophesied combined blood of the Keys. Long-held alliances are tested. Brotherhood deepens.
I flove this Dark Protectors' world!
Sparks fly high between characters, old and new, along with a lot of plot arcs spinning in the air in this offering, just what I needed for my reading ♡ doldrums.
Truly a pivitol story in the overall series.
Not to be overshadowed is Logan and Mercy, their push and pull journey sizzles. Extra spicy. I really liked these two creatures together. Polar opposites in loyalties and ideologies, yet compellingly drawn to each other.
Is it only Fate? Me thinks they protest too much LOL
With more intrigue and tight intensity, more who's the "real" good guys, like in the author's Scorpious Syndrome series. And with those battle scenes that just keep getting better, this one was just "more."
Solid 4.5*
Mercy is a strong woman that knows her own mind and questions authority when she doesn't agree with them. She is assigned to assassinate Logan but cannot see the reasoning behind it so she opts to kidnap him instead.
Logan has been sent to find the Keys. Mercy is one of those Keys so he will follow her wherever she leads him. When they both end up on the wanted-dead-or-alive list he will have to bring her home whether she wants to come or not.
New weapon developments by the enemy keep this series installment fresh and exciting. Getting one step closer to completing the Seven puts me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book.
Oh my, I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I won't give away any hints as to the contents of the book however i will say that it will be an very interesting and intriguing book. It will keep you captivated and hooked. So enjoy :)
