**I received a copy of One Tough Cowboy from St. Matin's Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. The opinions below are mine and mine alone or solicited in any way.**
One Tough Cowboy by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick. I've read Ms. Leigh"s Elite Ops series and decided to give this a try. I have to say I tried to like this book more than 4 stars worth but I couldn't with this story and am disappointed in saying I didn't. But I do give it 3.6 stars for trying to make the second chance at love somewhat believable.
Hunter Steele now Sheriff has suspicions that those close to him are being killed because of what they know about the Mayor of Deerhaven, California has something to do with their deaths. Especially since one of them was his Uncle Zachariah. But its Dottie Coulter and he knows that Samantha Ryder won't let it rest until she finds out why her beloved Aunt Dottie has dies unexpectedly. Since Hunter know that she'll return he wonders if he'll be hard pressed to keep his hands off the woman who was known as "Pixie Pest" as a child. He knows that there is a dark underside to Deerhaven with drugs and now perhaps a terrorist cell?
Samantha Jolene Ryder loved her Aunt Dottie and knows that something isn't right as she knows her aunt hated pain pills. But while at the wake she runs into Hunter and decides that he may know something and did I mention that she's has a crush on him since childhood? While dodging sniper bullets and doing what she does best being a detective in Detroit she'll have wild monkey sex with Hunter in very interesting ways. Because of this I feel that what could've been a wonderful story it just fell flat for me. I still want to know did the bad guys get what was they was due to them? We know her former boyfriend she as heck did what about the others?
It’s been years since I read this story! I found it to be a pretty fast paced book that throws a lot of information at you in a short amount of time. You really need to pay attention or you will miss some info. Did I mention that the sex scenes were hot and plentiful? Oh, yeah. Throw everything together and you’ve got a pretty good erotic suspense.
Happy reading
Small town romance with a hot sheriff is a favorite of mine these days and getting the steam factor that you get from Lora Leigh, I knew it was going to be good. Hunter Steele is the sheriff of Deerhaven, who is in the middle of three mysterious deaths and not many people he trusts. One of those mysterious deaths was the aunt of Samantha Ryder. Sam had left Deerhaven when she was a child. There is some history between Hunter and Sam, he was her champion as a child, protected her from bullies while she idealized him, followed him around and sabotaged his dates. She is now back to take care of her Aunt Dottie’s effects. While she is in town, she is determined to find out what happened. She is actually a police officer in Detroit so she can be an asset to Hunter. What ensues is a whole lot of suspense, drama, and some hot sexy scenes. Their story is intense and definitely kept me on pins and needles. There was one particular scene that was almost too difficult to read. But overall I really enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading on in this series.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the complimentary copy of One Tough Cowboy. All opinions are my own.
The story was good. A bit too much sex, I wanted more of a storyline.
Thanks netgalley for the arc
Samantha had a crush on Hunter since she was a kid. He was always her protector. Now that her grandmother has died, she has to come back home. Not only to deal with the house, property, will, she has to see what she can do to find out who killed her grandmother! Hunter is now the town Sheriff and, he is trying to find out who killed his grandfather. Since Sam is also a detective, she and Hunter decide to work together to find out exactly what's going on in this very small town. Four unexplained deaths of people who were all lifelong friends give Sam and Hunter quite the case to solve but, they are determined to find out what happened, who did it and, WHY?????
The crush that Sam had has turned into full blown, OMG he's hot!!! Hunter is having the same problem!
Now, they not only have to work together to solve these cases, they have to have each others backs, while trying to keep their attraction from bubbling over into a fire that just might burn them both!!!
A big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I enjoyed the book, but really did they have to have sex everywhere? Even at really inappropriate times?..Hopefully they will fix the inconsistencies. Northern Californians do not have a southern accent! I liked the characters, and the mystery but the sex was a bit overwhelming. I know that many will adore this book. I found even the title a bit odd. He's a sheriff not a cowboy!? I rate this a 3.5
I was very excited about reading this book. The storyline was good, but there wasn’t much of it. There could have been so much more to the story. Instead it was mostly sex scenes. I know a lot of people that would love that. I, however prefer more storyline. Also, it didn’t flow smoothly. I could really tell when the authors switched up the writing. Lots of people will love this book, unfortunately it was’nt for me and that’s okay. Everyone doesn’t like every book they read. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Samantha and Hunter are likeable characters that know each other since they were kids and when reconnecting as adults find out their secret teen infatuation turned into a mature sexual attraction.
Although I liked the characters, their past history and the tenderness between them, I really didn’t enjoy this story that much, because it soon became more about descriptive and endless sex, parts I’ve found totally uninteresting, than about developing the emotional dimensions of their reconnecting.
Having sex in the midst of dangerous situations seemed reckless and unprofessional for a sheriff/former Special Forces and for a cop. Perhaps one can think that the sense of danger increases the sex drive, but for me as a reader this kind of narrative options usually makes the characters seem a bit phony.
ONE TOUGH COWBOY is an action packed ride with lots of incredible sex! This book isn't for the faint of heart! WOW! I couldn't put this story down if I'd wanted too! I'll be the first in line for the second book in this new series by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick..
This book has a little of everything going on. Mystery, suspense, romance and crime. They were friends when they were young. Now that she’s back in town the chemistry between them is wild.
On one hand, I want more. I want to know Jacob's story. On the other hand, this book seemed too driven by sex. It seemed like the main characters just dropped their pants at any opportunity, even when the timing didn't seem the best.
Not a bad story. Quick moving. Good twists.
As the temperatures drop this is a great book to have to curl up with and warm you up! You'll be rooting for the happily ever after even though you know it's already coming, the characters still make you root and cheer them on!
ARC received for review
Good first book. Lots of chemistry and smokin' up the sheets between Samantha and Hunter. Plus there were bad guys to catch although that part was a little confusing and there was just too much stuff going on with too many people. Then the ending was just meh, even the epilogue wasn't much.
Samantha is a police officer in Detroit. She comes back to her hometown of Deerhaven, California after her aunt supposedly dies of an overdose. Hunter is the sheriff of their small town and is investigating the mysterious death of his uncle, the mayor’s wife, and Samantha’s aunt. He doesn’t know who to trust in his office but two deputies are on his suspect list. Samantha was always a pest and would get herself in trouble only to have Hunter get her out of them. But she’s all grown up now, still getting into trouble but Hunter can’t stay away from her. The chemistry between them is hot as fire. The more they investigate, the more dangerous it gets. So Hunter hires Samantha as an officer in the sheriffs department and she quits her job in Detroit. When an incident happens and Hunter can do nothing to help, he realizes how much he loves her and can’t be without her.
I have never read Mrs. Chadwick but I absolutely love Lora Leigh. Her books will leave you needing a cold shower. It is very steamy, with action, mystery and suspense. This book is hard to put down, it is so good.
One Tough Cowboy by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick is a phenomenal romantic suspense. Samantha returns to her hometown when her aunt suddenly dies. Hunter is the sheriff of Deerhaven and remembers Sam as his own little pesky pixie. Now she's a cop from Detroit. Their story is loaded with drama, humor, smokin' hot sex, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick soon. One Tough Cowboy is book one of the Moving Violations Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One Tough Cowboy could have been a very good story as trouble has come to a small California country town. There’s corruption within the town along with illegal activity and terrorist cells in the surrounding mountain. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect much with the characters. The bulk of story is sex scenes and not much storyline. If you are looking for scorching read, this could interest you. For me, it wasn’t what I was expecting and was a bit disappointed.
If you like sexy scenes this book if for you. This book was needed a little more plot and less sex scenes.
There is a very interesting story in One Tough Cowboy. Unfortunately, it is drowning in explicit sex scenes.
This is a fantastic book. I love the collaboration of Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick. Please give me more!
This is a story that’ll surprise you with the myriad of emotions that’ll surface...with all the elements present to make this a riveting read...romance, suspense, terror, action, violence, murder, multilayered conspiracies...it will definitely be one book that is hard to put down...you won’t be able to turn the pages fast enough. I’m looking forward to more stories in what promises to be a winning series.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
