This could have been an autobiography of someone's life it was so realistic. The story was gripping and really brings to light why we should listen to all sides of a story before judging anyone for their life choices.

Moving to another town and changing schools for your senior year of high school is traumatic enough, but Chloe Holden is also dealing with the divorce of her parents. Then she literally runs into Cash Colton in a grocery store and her problems start to really grow from there.

Cash thinks she is someone from his past and they work together to find out answers about her adoption and the past that no one wants her to know about.

I really don't know what to think of this book. It had its moments but it also was really cringy at times. A lot of breast talk that didn't do anything to add to the story. There was just so much going on that it was a bit overwhelming. Mom's health, dad's live-in girlfriend that is half his age, and then trying to figure out is she is the kidnapped girl that Cash thinks she is. It was all just a bit of a mess. I really didn't like the writing. I just really wanted more.

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed my time with this story. I ended up reading it mostly on my Kindle and it definitely kept my attention.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

I could not get into this book, sorry. Trying to clean up my netgalley. Didn’t realize that I was forgetting to leave reviews on netgalley itself, My apologies.

This book wasn't that great at all. The romance was overwhelming, overpowering and unnecessary. There was no mystery, there was almost nothing there that drew me in from the synopsis. I had to keep putting it down and was reluctant to start it again. Unfortunately I didn't finish it, I don't feel like I was missing much either by other people's reviews. Not recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

I read it in April 2019 but didn't submit my review here.

“In Another Life” was a quick and easy read. The story alternates between Chloe and Cash’s point of view.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel although I wanted to know the truth about what had happened and see how things turned out.

I think this is a story many young adults will like. The novel also deals with issues that many teens may relate to including, adoption, divorce, relationships, sex, etc.

This was an interesting but stressful read. Chloe and Cash are so interesting and their mutual issues in life were such a dynamic topic. The whole novel was interesting in a contemporary coming of age way that I enjoyed.

I really liked the CC Hunter book I previously read, but I struggled with this one and couldn't get into it. The plot just wouldn't connect in my head and I felt like there were a lot of holes that weren't explained. All in all not a me book.

The adoption story was interesting and while nothing entirely new, it added some suspense and intrigue to the book. The writing itself was kind of fast paced which isn’t a bad thing necessarily, but I felt it was hard to connect to the characters overall. Still a decent read and an enjoyable YA suspense novel.

While I was interested in the premise, I have too many issues with the writing style and the characters to continue.

First, I very rarely like when one point of view is written in 1st person and the other is written in 3rd person unless it feels like there's a good reason for it and it's done well. That wasn't the case here, and it just ended up bugging me instead. We are still in the 3rd person POV character's head just as much as with the other character, so it's not even as if it was a choice to create distance or anything else.

However, my main issues were with how uncomfortable the descriptions of Chloe were, especially coming from Cash. He's constantly mentioning her chest, and how she's not like other girls, and overall she just feels like an object to Cash, a prize. She's just constantly described as hot, and her breasts are always part of the way Cash describes her, and it was overall extremely uncomfortable. I mean, this book was published in 2019, and I thought we were over these random overly sexual descriptions of female characters and the 'not like other girls' trope. I also really didn't like how much he was gaslighting Chloe already, and while it's explained and he's about to apologize/come clean it seems, Chloe ends up convincing herself she overreacted instead, so he just goes with that instead. Just overall not comfortable with the romantic spin that seems to be applied to their relationship, and I just didn't feel like continuing anymore. There was just way too much that was already not working for me.

Chloe Holden was adopted at the age of three by a couple who wanted desperately to be parents. Fourteen years later, the family has fallen apart and Chloe has had to start over in a new school. When Chloe meets Cash Colton, the attraction between them in instantaneous. Cash has his own reasons for getting close to Chloe, leading the teenagers down a dangerous path. Will digging into the past derail the budding romance between the two lonely teenagers?

Cash Colton would have had a giant chip on his shoulder for the treatment he received in the past, but the outright hostility does not seem genuine in certain instances in the book. The chance encounter between Cash and Chloe that starts the whole journey is not all that realistic and feels more like a plot point than a natural progression. The conclusion goes totally off the rails for me and leaves a sour taste to the book.

Had the book just been about two troubled teenagers, I would have liked it more. The addition of the mystery and the danger took away from the rest of the novel. The author missed an opportunity regarding the adoption as a whole, as Chloe's feelings were never really discussed. Overall, In Another Life had a good premise, but lost my attention early in the novel.

Chloe is not excited with the turn her life is taking, where she has to move away from all her friends for her senior year since her parents are in the middle of a messy divorce. She figures she will just power through the year and keep her head down, but it seems like a literal run in with a boy named Cash will make that very hard. Cash was raised by his shady con-artist father so he knows how people can scam others so easily and he refuses to let the mysterious Chloe con his foster family- but he has no idea she is not part of any con.

This had just a touch of mystery/thriller and suspense but overall was more about being true to yourself no matter the obstacles, learning to forgive and move on and about the importance of all kinds of relationships. This was a very fast easy read that I enjoyed and would easily recommend to any YA contemporary fans out there who like a HEA real life style. Sure the book hits on some hard topics such as cancer, divorce, depression, moving, being kidnapped, conartists, violence and abuse, murder, all kinds of shady crimes, but yet overall I felt like this was a light fast paced read that was easy to get lost in and I never felt bogged down. I have read and loved a ton of paranormal books by this author and this was my first purely contemporary and I felt like it was just as solid as her fantasy worlds. The one thing that is consistent is that she has great characters you empathize with and relationship dynamics that feel real.

I thought the book was Pretty good book. I liked Chloe and Cash, but wasn't in love with them. The story was good but nothing new.
I would definitely read more from this author. And I am glad I had a chance to read this book.

The plot was super unrealistic and overly melodramatic and I couldn't get into this book.

Young adult is not my preferred genre, but I do occasional seek a great YA read. I am often intrigued about adoption stories, add in some suspense, and you have piqued my interest. This will hold your attention to the end. 3.5 stars

The writing moved too fast and I didn’t connect to the characters. I loved her Shadow Falls series, but everything else I’ve read by this author, I haven’t been able to connect to. It had an interesting premise but I found it wasn’t executed well. It fell flat, but read too fast. The scenes were switched too fast for me to keep track of them and I found myself getting confused in some places.

Why did it take me so long to read this book?

I was hooked from page 1 and the really hooked when everything started to come out about Chloe not being Chloe.

Imagine knowing you were adopted but wondering if you were actually kidnapped? Yeah! Crazy, right? Such an addicting quick read.

I actually read two books with this same theme fairly close together. Sometimes it hits too close to home, I know many successful adoptees who don't have dark secret pasts and I think sometimes books that delve into the seamier side prey on people's misconceptions.

RATING: 2 STARS
2019; St. Martin's Press

As I started this young adult novel, I was intrigued right away. Chloe was like any teen that was trying to deal with her parents divorced, and a new town. Slowly I started to lose interest in the story and felt less invested in what happened with Chloe. felt like the overall plot with Chloe's new life with her mother, and her adoption were well written. I was really hooked with the book at first. However, the attraction between Chloe and Cash was the downer, for me at least. I went into this book expecting it to be more of a suspenseful story unraveling the truth. I felt like the "romance" slowed down the plot. It had that Twilight sort of vibe. I did finish the novel, but really had to push myself for the blog tour. I didn't make it in time, and then having not liked the novel, I put off reviewing it. This year my book goal is writing reviews - keeping up with the books I have recently read, and then trying to complete some older ones. I cannot remember the ending of the book but I do remember feeling a bit disappointed.

Young adult books can be hard to review. Some young adult books (The Outsiders) can be read by any age and stands up to the test of time. Other teen books seem to be written for a certain age and almost younger (Twilight). As a teen I would have been fanning over Twilight, so maybe the teen version of me would have loved this book. Yet, many women in their 40s and plus loved Twilight, so I don't know, maybe this book just wasn't for me. Haha, see why it took me almost a year to write this review?
