A very driven, dark ride, this book constantly had me on the edge of my seat! The descriptions were out of this world wonderful, and the continuously fast moving plot in addition to the build up of suspense was a killer! The romance felt a little off at times, but I think that was just a personal opinion thing, I know a lot of people who will love it, and the writing and plot definitely made up for it. I can't wait to read more from this author, because this was so enjoyable. Well worth the read!
I enjoyed this story which made a change from the usual books that i normally read. It is the first time that i have read a book by this author and will no doubt read more. The two main characters are very likeable and is a book that one doesn't feel as if you have to turn the pages quickly. In other words, an easy going book, which has a touch of humour as well as suspense and romance.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy. This is my honest review.
What a great story from finish to end. When Melanie's cat starts going down the road to another house and goes back with a note attched to it's collar she is intrigued. She answers the note and receives a reply. They soon meet and like each other straight away. What's not to like a good looking cop called Finn with a sense of humour and a large loving family.
When Melanie starts to feel that someone is following her and has been in her place Finn is concnerned. Then a fire with a message burned into the ground makes them fear for her life. Can they get to whoever is doing this before it's too late. The ending was great and was totally expecting it to be someone else. I can't wait to read other books in this series.
Really enjoyed this book. Loved how Mel and Finn “met” at the beginning and how their relationship grew. There were a few issues with formatting so at times it was a bit frustrating to read but this didn’t detract from the story.
I'm not sure what's going on with the formatting for this book, but it made it so distracting to read. That, with the lackluster/ordinary characters kept me from really caring to follow the story. DNF @ 20%.
I got to about 35% and gave up. I hate not finishing a book but this was just too slow moving for me.
This is a first time read author for me and I truly enjoyed Finn and Melanie's story. Finn is at home recovering from a recent incident and he has eyes on his neighbors two doors down. Melanie is introverted, shy and the cat is delivering cute letters between the two. I loved Finn's family and hope to read more about them. Filled with a bit of suspense and action.

Loved it! This was the first novel I have read by this author. I loved it! It was a romantic suspense novel. I loved the heroine, Melanie. This novel sucked me in from the very first chapter and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. I loved the chemistry between Melanie and Finn. I love a novel that will keep me guessing and leaves me with a smile on my face and this novel certainly did that for me. Loved it!
Recommend!
The story begins with a cat - CJ Cooper - that delivers notes between a cop on disability and an introverted writer. Finn, the cop, is still hurting from a recent break-up with a TV anchorwoman. Melanie (Mel), the writer, has just lost her beloved aunt to cancer. Mel (24) is quite shy - she only had one relationship - and that was in college a few years ago. In contrast, gorgeous Finn (27) has had a bevy of beauties. Regardless, he takes more than an interest in Mel.
The two hook-up eventually and Finn realizes he has to walk on eggshells with Mel. With a large family to help him get along with his broken leg and ankle, Finn needs assistance. He tries to draw out Mel by "letting her" help him out (And by introducing her to his 5 brothers and sisters.) She may be shy, but Mel has fallen hard for the handsome Finn and has made friends with his two sisters. Mel, however, feels undeserving of Finn.
Eventually Mel meets Finn's parents - his entire family warms to her.
During this relationship Mel has had some odd things happen: doors left open, dishes placed where she swears she did not leave them, her dog left outside and even worse. Being a cop, Finn sees this all add up and becomes wary and quite protective of Mel.
Any more would be a spoiler but the turns this story takes are superb. Highly recommend!
Many thanks to Limitless Publishing, Amy Reece and NetGalley for the chance to review this book!
Sorry - this was a DNF due to formatting for me. The premise sounds good, but the ARC/Netgalley formatting is so poor it's unreadable.
Enjoyed this book very much...looking forward to reading more by this author. Fast paced, easy read great characters...this book is a definite page turner.
A fiery romantic suspense story with a good plot. I enjoyed "Watch Over" by Amy Reece. It's the first I've read by her and won't be the last. Good from start to finish.
This was a good who-done-it although amateurish writing and storyline. I finished the book but it was not compelling enough for me to race through to the end. A decent read, sweet romance but not a page turner.
A sweet and mesmerizing story full of mystery and romance ! A lovely and deliciously clever plot filled with sweet and funny characters ! I highly recommend ! Thanks to Netgalley and Books Go Social for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review ! #Netgalley #BooksGoSocial #WatchOver
Mel and Finn met trough stray cat who is become their daily routine and Mel’s new pet. Mel is a shy introvert person and when she finds out that Finn is in a wheelchair is trying to help him. So their story starts slowly with eating together, watching a movie, as Finn rehabilitation progress so does their relationship. But there is something that is ruining their happiness and is a stalker who tried to kill Mel. Why and who is yet to find out. Lovely sweet story with great characters, witty and fun to read. Although is kind of predictable it was an enjoyable read and I had fun reading it.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
This book was a very easy read and I instantly cared about these characters. I knew who the perpetrator was immediately, but I still had no idea why this person was taunting the characters. It still was a mystery book with a lot of twist and turns. Highly entertaining and didn't want to put it down.
I recommend this easy read. It makes you think, entertains you, and pulls at your heartstrings. You will enjoy it!
When I read the blurb, I basically thought this would be just the book for me!
Romance? Check.
Suspense? Check.
Meet-cute? Check.
Unfortunately, everything apart from the meet-cute fell flat to me.
Melanie and Finn just weren't likable characters to me. Melanie is so insecure, naive and far too trusting (she basically trusts everyone but Finn) and a bit of a grey mouse to be honest.
I liked Finn better, and even though I'm usually quick to fall in love with male lead characters, he just didn't do it for me. He was nice enough I guess, just nothing to write home about.
It's safe to say that when you put those two together, the sparks just weren't there in my opinion.
Now on to the "suspense". It annoyed me to no end how freaking long it took for them to find out who was behind everything! It was so obvious, I knew the moment that particular character was introduced. I feel like the suspense/mystery aspect could've been done a lot better as to make it more entertaining for the readers.
The story and the writing itself actually weren't bad, I just think Amy Reece could've done much more with it and made it a lot more exciting.
What I loved the most was Finn's family and the whole dynamic between them. I would probably read the rest of the series just for them.
Touching and suspenseful, this plot line will draw you in from the first few paragraphs. I really appreciate Amy Reece's ability to sketch interesting characters with real depth. Yes, the leading man is hot, but he isn't too perfect, and yes the leading lady is lovely, but she's also an introvert who has confidence issues. These characters are so much more than combustible chemistry. You really grow to care about them; they could be your neighbors down the road. The suspense is just the right amount, and the resolution is quite satisfying. I'm really glad to have been immersed in this story. I can't wait for more!
Any book that starts off by getting the hero and heroine to get together by leaving notes for one another under the collar of a cat that has adopted them has got to be onto a winner. I was inclined to enjoy this book from the first few pages for that very reason. Of course, it isn't long before the pair meet and what starts out as a friendship, develops into something more serious and lasting.
I liked the characters of both Finn and Melanie. Finn was very sweet, although he'd clearly had terrible taste in women in the past. Mel's taste hadn't been much better to be honest, with a bad relationship in her youth putting her off men altogether. Once they were together, it was clear that they belonged together.
There is a bit of a thriller/mystery theme to this storyline as well. With someone out there threatening Mel and putting her in danger. I liked this element of the story and I think that it added quite a bit to the overall read.
Unlike many contemporary romance books, much of the action in the bedroom was behind closed doors and off camera. It made a bit of a change to not have to cringe at some of the cliched euphemisms that often get dragged out.
Overall, I really enjoyed this read and was quite pleased to discover that it's actually the first in a series with at least two other books ready to read. I think that I'll be dipping into them soon.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
3.5 stars
Finn and Melanie are neighbors who meet through a stray cat. Their meet/greet happens through notes written by them from the cat’s perspective. They finally meet in person and the weird starts to happen when Mel acquires a stalker.
I loved the first part of the story. The notes were cute and full of personality, and made for an interesting meet/greet. Once Melanie and Finn officially meet though, Mel regressed into an immature youth and I started to struggle with the story. Her constant self doubts wore me out fairly quick, especially since Finn hadn’t given her any reason to doubt his interest in her. For his part, Finn gets a medal for how long Mel dragged out her insecurities without talking to him. Their chemistry was nice with the sex scenes mainly closed door, but it was hard to be totally pulled in because of Melanie’s constant self-berating.
The supporting cast was my favorite part. Finn’s family was boisterous, nosey, and loving, creating happy chaos whenever one appeared, and I look forward to seeing them get their own HEAs!
The stalker was obvious, however the why did stump me a bit. When it was all revealed however, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. It was more twisted then I expected it to be, but did make for a crazy wrap up.
Overall, the story was good. A little choppy and repetitive in some areas, but for the most part, the plot sailed smoothly. I would continue the series to see if Finn’s siblings meet their own matches.
