I just reread this book, now after reading books 1,2 and 4 of this series and I liked it much more than the first time I read it. IT says standalone but it really isnt that. The characters from the first two books appear and are tied to the main characters in this book, # 3, Zack and Cameron. Zack has just been rescued from a cult and Cameron was part of the rescue. He lets Zack stay at his house because he has the space and Zack is really confused, has lead a terribly sheltered life and is not on good terms with the other rescued cult members. Cam is really awesome tacking care of Zack and teaching him all about the world and they develop a close friendship based on trust. Cam had a bad experience in the past with a boyfriend and is fearful of getting hurt again and also not being worthy of Zack's love. I have really enjoyed all the books in this series--the main couple in each book being interesting and having their own issues to deal with and obstacles to overcome. This book was great too. Great series! Hoping there will be a book 5! Thanks so much for the ARC!
I didn't start this series with the first book, but I did start with Sentinel, the second book in Karrie Roman's Until You series. Starting there wasn't too bad, it basically just made me want to read Shipped to get to know Ryan and Lucas better and see how their story began. I have a feeling that wouldn't be the case if you started with Trusted. There are just too many "players" and even though you get some of Zach's back story in Trusted, his connection to Cam and the rest of the characters start in Sentinel. So... the lesson is - don't start here. You're welcome. ;)
Now, as for Zach and Cam's story? I loved these two together. Zach had been through so much and there were very few people he could trust. He never had any doubts about Cam though, from the moment he met him, there was a connection. What Zach didn't know was that Cam had his past that left him emotionally scarred. Not only was he afraid to hurt Zach, but he didn't feel safe risking his own heart.
I think one of my favorite things about this series so far is the family aspect. Some by blood, some by chance, but the connections couldn't be stronger. Zach may not have had much of a family before, but he definitely made up for it. There's also more to come in the Until You series and I can't wait for the next book. ;)
This book had so much suffering, terror, and love. It had my attention from the start to finish. Zach and Cameron both have been hurt by someone and it’s hard for Cameron to connect emotionally because of it. I can see why Cameron fell in love with Zach, he’s sweet and kind. Zach was just like a little kid in a candy store when he was exposed to all his first. I love the fact that love prevails in the end and I’m planning on reading the rest of the books in this series.
Definitely was skeptical since this isn't my usual genre but i enjoyed it very much and think that a lot of you would too.
This book was a good read. Not my favorite but it had a good plot line and good characters.i quite enjoy the cult storyline even though this story starts once Zach escapes but as many people in real life are going through similar situations it makes this book interesting
Continuing from the previous book in the series, Zach, who escaped from the cult run by his father, is now living with Cameron while he figures his life out. Throughout the book, he deals with his seemingly unrequited love for Cameron, his father’s trial, and Cameron’s past. As always, I really enjoyed Karrie Roman’s writing. I did find the usage of “tummy” a bit odd from grown men lol, and a certain aspect of the plot was predictable, but I love this series and was so excited to find out that there will be another book in the series. Look forward to reading and reviewing it when it comes along!
I don't know where to begin. So much heartbreak, intense love and blinding horror. Zach and Cameron take you on an emotional journey you will not soon forget. Both were terrorized by someone they should've been able to trust. Betrayal was big in this story, but so was redemption and love. So many characters and varying layers to each. There were moments when I was on the edge of my seat. A true page turner and I look forward to Valor.
zach piper escapes a lifetime of emotional abuse when he leave behind the cult run by his father. from the moment he meets cameron cronin something about him calls to him. he trusts cameron. he knows that he could love cameron. even before he had the words for his sexuality he's always known that he was gay. but he's also lived a life sheltered from modern technology, modern problems, modern beliefs. so zach has a lot to learn.
cameron knows he wants to protect zach. he loves zach, but is afraid to be in love with zach. his previous relationship experience deeply scarred him. his partner was emotionally, physically and sexually abusive and it took him a long time to recognize this. and he still feels unworthy and at fault. and he's afraid to trust his own feelings for zach, and afraid to trust zach with his feelings.
this is a slow burn. cameron tries to keep things platonic, but zach pushes at this boundary. he might have been sheltered. and cameron might feel overprotective, but zach is all man. he knows what he wants. he is willing to fight for more. because he knows that if cameron would just let zach love him, that they could find true happiness. both zach and cameron have to lay themselves bare, trust in each other in order to have it all. i really enjoyed trusted and am super intrigued to read the next book in the series, as well as picking up the previous books. even though it's part of a series, you can totally read it as a standalone, there is likely overlap, but this story is self-contained enough so that you don't miss anything.
**trusted will publish on october 29, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/ninestar press in exchange for my honest review.
Trusted is the third book in this series but it was the first book that I've read and I had no problems following along with the storyline or characters. I enjoyed this book a lot and so much so that I look forward to reading the previous books in this series. Most of the characters were great. Zach, Cameron, Ben, Ethan and Alec were my favorites. You have your characters you will love and your characters that you will hate. This book does deal with heavy subject matters but the writing was perfect. This book had its dark, twisted, sweet, steamy, funny and heartfelt moments with a sweet and well deserved ending. However, I do wish that the ending gave us a little more of the family. I truly would have loved to have had an epilogue with Zach and Cameron married.
After being rescued from his fathers cult, Zack’s life has drastically changed. Living with Cameron, one of his rescuers, he knows nothing about the real world. Every day brings him new wonders and things to explore. Including the feelings he has for Cameron.
Cameron is feeling the same things but won’t allow himself to act on them. His past controlling his present. Not allowing him to move forward. When Zack is threatened, Cameron has to admit his feelings.
I liked the book, however Cameron’s constant waffling got old. Zack’s exuberance in discovering a whole new world was sweetly satisfying. This could be read as a standalone but the characters will be easier to keep straight knowing their history. Nice addition to the series.
3.5 Stars The third book in the Until You series and my first read by this author. Trusted, is intense and gripping, I think to get the series feel I do need to go back and read the first two books. In saying that I did enjoyed this story and the characters and will look to read more by this author.
TRUSTED written by Karrie Roman is the first book I've read of hers. The story grabs you from page one and doesn't let you go! It's a fascinating story about a boy raised in his father's cult, without any contact with the outside world. It was reminiscent of the book 'room'. Then there's Cameron, who is still locked in the aftermath of an abusive relationship. Lots of ups and downs in this story! I'm definitely going to look for the other books in this series, each stand alone.
I enjoyed this book!
Sometimes the dialogue felt stiff and the plot was somewhat predictable? But I also loved the slow-burn dynamic of the protagonists. I was so afraid it would turn into shallow hero worship, but the author never did that. Instead, there was lots of friendship involved and a dynamic I really got behind. Also, both main characters were fleshed out by themselves; the entire story didn't ride on a romance, but a complicated play of emotions which I enjoyed thoroughly.
I recommend for a decent m/m book when you feel like you want to have fun with a story and not worry too much about the details.
This series has quite grown on me. After each book I like the series more and more. This time around the story is about Cameron whom is Ben's twin brother (Ben is from book #2 and part of #1) and Zach whom is the young man Ben and Ethan rescue in book #2.
Cameron is super loyal and loving but he is BROKEN from his past. With Zach's past you would also believe he too should be broken but instead he's thriving. And his hope and zest for life is exactly what Cameron needs to help put Cam back together again.
At times I didn't get how Cam's past could break him so bad but I've never been in that situation myself, so I have no idea how it could break you or not.
Zach keeps hitting road blocks while experiencing the world but none of it stops him from moving forward. Zach's take on life is refreshing and hopeful.
"It's not luck. We earned this happiness, both of us."
This book had suspense, sweetness, longing, steam and hope. Karrie Roman is a new author for me with this series but I'm definitely hooked and want to read more from her.
3.5 stars
This latest installment picks up shortly after the previous book after the rescue of Ethan's nieces, unfortunately I missed that book so I will need to go back & read it. Even though I didn't read book 2, I wasn't lost. Along with the rescue of the nieces, we have Zach who is the leader of the cults son. Even though Zach was abused & neglected, he isn't lost in his own shell. He wants to learn everything that he missed out on. He has plans for what he wants to do with his life & who he wants. Cameron was horribly abused by his prior partner Jimmy. Jimmy slowly broke Cam down & took over his life. He was mentally abused and made to feel worthless and he couldn't do anything right. He finally was able to escape Jimmy & hasn't looked back. But, Jimmy is still out there. Cam has vowed that he will never trust someone again. He will not be vulnerable again. Zach has other plans, he wants Cam and will stop at nothing to get him. The story revolves around Zach and Cam learning to trust each other and becoming friends. We skirt the fall out of Zach's dads arrest and a little of the hearing & sentencing, I would have liked more of that as well as what happened to the rest of the cult followers. There is a kidnapping that could have gone all kinds of wrong. And a satisfying outcome to Jimmy. I can't wait of the next book, which is about Alec.
