Perfect read. Well written with the perfect amount of character development.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fun and the relationship was intense. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely add her to my list of authors to watch for. Well written, fun, fast read.
I had tried to read this book again recently but I don't have access to the file anymore even on the Kindle cloud.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review.
I was excited to read this, but the more I read, the more I began to get irritated with Alexa and how she treated Marshall. I really felt like he shouldn't have wasted his time with her because of her dismissive attitude towards him, simply because of his age.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review Adventures in Online Dating. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish this book and won't be rating or reviewing at this time. Should I decide to give it another chance down the road, I will rate and review on my blog, Goodreads and retailers at that time.
Alexa is a divorced mother with three boys, she has not dated in a very long time and one of the reasons is her set of questions that are set to equal a perfect match for her with her boys. Alexa plans and arranges everything in her life along with her boys. When going into her favorite coffee house owned by Marshall, he overhears her talking to her best friend agreeing with the dates for 20 minutes in the afternoon at his coffee shop. He disagrees with her plan at is not embarrassed that he is caught overhearing their conversation. Really he wants to date her but does not know how to ask her out. Now she comes up with a compromise in paying for the use of the table and he agrees. After a few dates, he begins to talk to her and finds out that none of them have made her list and he asks to take her questions and actually scores all of the marks that are the highest. Her problem though is that she is ten years older than him and feels it would not work and he would not be good for her boys. Weeks go by and she still has not found anyone he actually steps up in front of a jerk and she likes it. One night they go out just on a business dinner and later when she goes back to his place she knows it can’t be anything more with his kitchen with star wars, doctor who, vinyl pop, and two video chairs in the front room. He is like a large version of a teenage boy. My wife says I still act like that at times after 40 years of marriage and being 59. Back to the review. She likes him and would like to be with him but she makes him feel like it is only a booty call. When she finds out that her eldest boy has talked to him about some questions instead of her she goes off the rails. Now you have to read the story to find out what happens. A good book.
I was expecting this to be a fast read, but it was a little slow for me.
I thought the premise and the plot was good, but it took so long for anything to happen. With Alexa and her numbers it was a little annoying.
In the end I gave it three stars because even though it wasn't one of the best reads for me it was still entertaining.
** I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review**
Wow!! This book blow me away. It went above and beyond my expectations. The chemistry and banter between these characters, had me absolutely hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want this book to end. I would recommend this book and this author to anyone who loves a fantastic comedy romance that is filled with laugh out loud moments and fabulous characters you can’t help but fall in love with them. This book is worth reading over and over again it’s that fantastic!! I hope if you read this book, you will adore this book as much as I do. Happy reading!!
I had a lot of fun reading this one and plenty of laughs from start to finish; engaging characters, entertaining storyline and defined world, etc. My one and only issue was the way in which Alexa tended to treat Marshall like a child at times...it was frustrating but everything else made up for this so definitely a good read.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
Wow this book was just so good and so easy to get lost in. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I just didn't want it to end. I just couldn't get enough of these wonderful characters and I just loved getting to see their journey. I will most definitely be reading more stories from this wonderful author.
I went into this book thinking I would love it. The blurb was so interesting and unique.
This storyline was interesting and unique, though. Twenty-minute dates is all Alexa needs to figure out if a guy is worth a second date. But Alexa was so stuck in her statistics and her dismissal of Marshall, I couldn’t ever get over how she treated him, even up until the very end. I honestly didn’t even want them to end up together because of it. Marshall could have done better.
The saving graces in this book were Marshall and Brenden. Marshall is funny, successful, and patient. Brenden was surprisingly insightful for a 13-year-old boy and I loved how he beat his mom at her own game: statistics.
This is how books should be written. There were so many feelings in this book. There were parts I laughed at, swooned for, cried and was so angry I wanted to throw my kindle across the room.
Alexa is a divorced woman who's whole life runs on numbers. She tried to take the emotions out of things and think critically. This is where the whole 20 minute date comes into play. She is a woman who thinks as long as she sticks to the plan she will be happy. She is getting upset that men are not playing be her rules. I really felt bad for her, she is a woman who just wants to be happy, and her kids to be happy but she is just going about it wrong.
Marshall is a younger man who has been interested in Alexa since the first day he met her but is rebuffed every time he mentions it. He has to sit and watch her go through these 20 minutes dates and he hates it.
I have to say I LOVED Marshall. He in my mind was the perfect man. He knew when to be an adult but he also knew when to have fun and not take life so seriously. He was exactly what Alexa needed. He was a genuinely good man that Alexa wasn't giving a chance. I loved the movie quotes and how he was with her kids.
There were parts of this book that I was very frustrated with. Alexa wanted to be happy and be this great mom, but her strict regimented rules were making everyone unhappy. As a reader you found joy in her the same time Marshall did and you wanted her to have more of that.
The story or Alexa and Marshall.
Alexa is a single parent tired of online dating, so devises her own system of 20 minute dates so she doesn't waste her time. She plans to meet her dates in her favourite coffee shop which is owned by marshall. He is interested in Alexa himself, but she discounts him as too young for her, so will she give him a chance?
An entertaining read!
This is an entertaining story about Alexis, a single mom of three boys, and Marshall, a coffee shop owner. Alexis is looking for a man to share he life with and be the father figure her boys need. The problem is that she's looking for a man in his forties, to complement her 42. Marshall is significantly younger, so she doesn't take his flirtations seriously, even as she begins a cringe-worthy speed dating system as only an actuary could devise.
Anyone who is, or has been, a single parent will be able to relate to Alexis's struggle to find a suitable partner, in fact, struggle to even find the time to look for a suitable partner or to date if she should find him. Her attempts to meet someone are somewhat painful, but also all to real (minus the actuarial analysis). When her unlikely friendship develops with Marshall, she's not sure what to do with it, in fact the only thing she's sure of is that he's unsuitable.
I enjoyed this book, even though at times the story seemed to move too slowly. Additionally, while I could identify with Alexis, at times I wanted to shake some sense into her and throttle her ex-husband who could only be described as a man-child focusing only on his needs instead of the needs of his children. So, with those caveats, this is a worthy read that fans of the genre will enjoy. I'd give this 3.5 stars, but will round up to 4 stars.
Fun fast read that is very relatable. Anyone that has ever tried, either successfully or unsuccessfully, internet dating will easily relate to parts of the book. While the book doesn't just center around online dating, it is an integral part of the story. Enjoyed the book, and it was a nice escape from the every day ugliness we see on the news!
This one was just okay. I had a hard time getting into the story, the writing didn't capture my attention the way I would have liked. I knew this was going to be an older woman/younger man story, but I didn't realize how much I wasn't going to like them as a couple. Alexa was a single mom, and she was set in her ways. I wasn't a fan of her "20 minute" rule. I understand instant attraction, but you can't know everything about a person in 20 minutes. Even after she agrees to go out with Marshall, I felt like there were times she treated him like a kid, not an equal. I liked Marshall, and thought he was a good guy, I just didn't buy them as a couple. This was a first for me from this author, but I would be willing to read her again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
This book was OK and my first by Julie Particka. I liked that Alexa is over 40, divorced, single mother (ugh hate cougar references) and the younger man online dating scenario. Some of the dates were cringe-worthy but overall a light, fun read.
I read and reviewed an ARC of this book. #netgalley #adventuresinonlinedating
I almost put they book down and stopped reading, but I am glad I didn’t. The story made me think about my life, plans and actions. A great book. I am so glad I finished it. I hope you read and enjoy it as much as I did.
This is a cute story. It kind of reminded me of Luke Danes and Lorelei Gilmore from Gilmore Girls. Marshall runs this low-key coffee shop. He’s been eyeing Alexa ever since she started coming into his shop. They have a bit of banter, he hands her her coffee, and that’s that. She doesn’t view him as dating potential. I don’t know why but they just reminded me of Luke and Lorelei for some reason. Maybe it was the whole coffee shop owner and the single mother thing. I don’t know.
With that being said, I wish we could have seen these two interact a bit more on a personal level. A lot of their time together was spend bumping uglies. I never fully felt like they had anything in common. In fact, a lot of their differences were pointed out and never fully addressed. I’m still confused on how Marshall could leave her house in such a complete mess after watching the boys for her one night. I mean, it didn’t even appear that he tried to clean up their fun party night and she wound up staying up the whole night cleaning up the mess… and it never gets addressed. Maybe I’m just weird but that really bothered me. He didn’t even acknowledge that he’d completely dropped the ball, and she didn’t bring it up to him. It was things like that that made me wonder if these two were even on the same page with anything other than sex.
I did really like this story though. I thought as a whole it was a cute and sweet romance. The epilogue brought a few tears to my eyes. I think that epilogue was the best part of the whole story.
Alexa has been burned by love before, so she’s determined to put her analytical skills to the job when finding Mr. Right. What readers know and what she’ll learn is that love doesn’t quite work that way. Enter Marshall, the loveable cafe owner, who just might be the opposite of what she thinks she wants, while being exactly what she needs. This book has its charming moments, but for me it felt a bit too confined to tropes in Alexa’s character development. Still, an enjoyable, light rom-com read.
