Unfortunately, for my older books requested I was unable to review probably. They were never read, not because they weren't great, but because I ended up sick. I am just now getting back into the swing of thinks. Thank you, Netgalley.
Although a cute plot, I couldn't find this book particularly captivating. I didn't find the characters very detailed or flesh out, and the over-the-top amount of repetition in the book meant I ended up skimming large portions. The potential was there, but this was definitely not one of Callie Hutton's better books.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book 5 in the Lords and Ladies in love series. Elizabeth is on hiding running for the scandal her father committed. Hawk is a lord who is bored in his life and needs some change when he comes across Elizabeth he senses that she is hiding something. After some attempts on her life Hawk promises to protect her no matter what she may or have not done, I did enjoy the story and glad hawk got her happy ending.
I enjoyed this story. It's not the best but it's definitely still entertaining and attention grabbing. Along with adventure and suspense, you find love along the way.
I really enjoyed the story- kept me reading until I finished it! As usual—her characters are well developed and the plot is interesting.
All things considered, this book wasn't great. The characters were interesting and the plot held promise, but all that was ruined by the poor writing quality. Characters descriptions and interactions were full of cliches. Words and phrases just didn't go well together. There was also a lot of telling in the book. Instead of showing characters pursuing certain actions, we the reader are told that they did something. While that works for something like 'they rode in a carriage for two days', it doesn't work so well for character actions, especially ones that build relationships. And then the things it would say the characters did would seem out of character because we never see the characters actually do them!
As far as the plot, in some ways it felt very predictable. It had this undercurrent of suspense that was never truly met. So while some of this book held promise, and parts could even be fixed in copy edits, I don't think I'll go back for more by this author.
Lady Elizabeth and Lord Hawkins “Hawk’s ” story is the 5th in the Lords and Ladies in Love series; a standalone, no cheating, happily ever after, historical romance with plenty of sizzle.
This is a well written story with intrigue, secrets and danger. I enjoyed the dialogue and romance development between the characters. Lots of heat.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This author was new to me and I loved her writing style. This book has it all, romance, intrigue, spies, and a HEA! I highly recommend!
Captivating the Earl was a thoroughly enjoyable read. There is intrigue, and treason, and flirting, and spies! Who doesn’t love a regency romance spy novel? Weird people, that’s who. Callie Hutton is another new-to-me author who I am ready to her entire back list to my TBR.
Its a buy buy buy book! From page one to the final end..... was captivated and totally engrossed as the story unfolds. I loved the characters the way the story flowed as well as each and every action within the pages. This book is a keeper as well as being one that just entertains the reader. *being me*... I just adore the way the author wrote this small little mystery historical romance. I like the different elements that make the story come alive. So if you want a good read to curl up with ... buy this one! I was given this arc via NetGalley. Each written word in this review is my own opinion. Regards, Anna
Ms Hutton brings so many entertaining characters to her stories. Captivating The Earl, Ms Hutton’s latest instalment in the Lords and Ladies In Love series, is a read with a few surprises in a story that did not disappoint.

Lizzie is working as a governess after she flees from London where her father was known for treason. Hawk comes to visit his friends and he knows there is something to this governess he feels like he knows her, which come to find out he does. When her life is in danger, Hawk comes up with the idea that if they get married she will be safe, but that is not the solution now we need to find out who is after her? Enjoy!
Lady Elizabeth is forced to flee London when her traitorous father flees England. With the help of a good friend, she secures a position as governess. For 2 years she's been safe, but all that changes when Lord Hawkins, Hawk, shows up at his cousin's estate for a visit. Something about Lizzie triggers the thought that Hawk knows her from somewhere. Before he has a chance to puzzle it out, Lizzie is thrown from her horse. Hawk soon learns it was no accident. Receiving a missive from the Home Office, Hawk learns that Lizzie is actually Lady Elizabeth, the traitor's daughter. Now he knows that someone is out to harm her and as his feelings grow for her, he does everything in his power to keep her safe, but will it be enough?
I really enjoyed this story. I instantly felt a connection between Lizzie and Hawk. Their light banter solidified the attraction. The plot moves along nicely and the mystery man trying to kill Lizzie is predictable, but still a good puzzle. Fans of regency romances will definitely enjoy this story.
I really liked this historical read. Great characters, plenty of drama and intrigue with steamy chemistry. I was hooked from beginning to end.
I am a tremendous Callie Hutton fan and loved the Lords and Ladies in Love series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, too, up until the end. Without giving the ending away, allow me to say that I thought Lizzie took an unnecessary, unexpected and out of character chance with her life. That being said, I found Lizzie to be quite resourceful and strong. She is independent, thinks for herself, makes good decisions and, as a general rule, is very careful.
Hawk is the typical rogue’s makes the best husband material. He is handsome, caring and goes after the woman he wants. He just has to convince her, he is what she wants and needs. The only caveat I did not care for in Hawk is that I like my heroes to stay away from married women prior to their meeting the heroine. I like them to have a higher ethical standard.
It was interesting that Hawk seemed to know that he 'knew' Lizzie without being able to understand why. Lizzie thought she was perfectly safe, but he could not let the idea that they had met before go.
Once these two got together, their romance is beautiful. Hawk does not push himself on Lizzie. They become friends quickly in this tale of love and trust. Even before Hawk knew she was innocent of assisting her father in treason, he ‘knew’ she was not involved. It was that trust that allowed them to truly reach their HEA.
I would give this 4.5 stars if I could because I do not believe the small part of which I disagree takes away from a beautiful romantic book.
If you enjoy period romance novels, I definitely recommend this one! I really liked the overall atmosphere and characters, and I also thought the story was well paced.
I think I would categorize this novel as a romantic adventure story, given how much action and even some suspense takes place. I thought the romantic/love scenes were well balanced with the overlaying plot.
A gripe that I have is that there are really only 2 important love scenes in this novel, and I think having at least one more would have rounded out the book more. I also think that there should have been a couple more pages at the end wrapping up the story and giving us a glimpse of Hawk and Lizzie’s life now that they have their happy ending.
I didn’t love it. There are much better historicals out there. I received an ARC VIA netgalley for an honest review.
Hiding in plain sight!
The daughter of a traitor has reinvented herself as a governess. Having fled from her place in high society to the country, away from from prying, critical eyes Lady Elixabeth thought she was safe. When her employer's friend the arresting Lord Hawkins comes to visit, Lady Elizabeth finds not only her secrets exposed but her heart.
When Hawk realizes who Elizabeth is, he has orders from the Home Office to bring her in. He searches for a way to keep her safe. His answer is not necessarily what Elizabeth wants.
Somehow the two must chart a course that keeps Elizabeth safe, but what of her heart that has been already taken by Hawk? ... and Hawk's feelings?
An enjoyable continuation of tonnish matters of the heart with a twist!

Captivating the Earl
book five
by Callie Hutton
Hawk’s and Lizzie’s story.
There’s so much going on in this story, it’s so captivating and fast paced. Witty banter with humour plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing at who the villain is. A love that was never expected but totally encompassing.
Can they overcome their differences and allow their hearts to be free to love? Will the villain be stopped?
This was fantastic addition to the Lords series and I can't wait to see what’s next!
This was a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This was my honest unbiased opinion.
Ms. Hutton, you had me at page 1! Regency, romance, twists and turns...OMG what’s not to love! Keep doing that voodoo that you do Ms. Hutton...loving it!
