2.5 stars.

I found this to be only slightly interesting. I kept thinking the story would pick up along the way and get better and better but it stayed the same level of enjoyment throughout. It held my attention just barely but I found it to be a bit too much of a struggle to get through. It wasnt a bad book its just my enjoyment level was low. I had higher hopes for it as the description of the story made it sound so good. Unfortunately it's not one I'll remember.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a fast paced, gripping thriller, with fully fleshed out characters. The main character, Anna, is instantly likeable. I'm not sure a storm in Scotland would continue unabated for so long, but I'm willing to suspend disbelief for such a good story. The book is almost a country house murder scenario, with the characters trapped in an isolated hotel by bad weather. I heartily recommend this book.

I have loved all of C L Taylor's previous books and was looking forward to this one. However I found it to be very complex and I couldn't keep track of all of the characters and eventually gave up

Wow. Fast paced and dramatic, this is one hell of a read. The setting is perfect and really adds to the atmosphere. Gripping.

Small hotel, remote Scottish setting, handful of guests and everyone with a secret to hide...what’s not to like? C L Taylor writes convincing taut thrillers and this is no exception. Each of the characters has a backstory and there are so many red herrings dropped as the tale develops, I found it impossible to guess the outcome. Enfossed from start to finish.

The plotting is carefully structured and builds layer by layer. I kept reading just a bit more until I finished it in a couple of sessions and was really didn’t see the final reveal.

A great thriller for a dark night in. My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.

C.L. Taylor writes fantastic books that I've enjoyed over the last couple of years so I was excited to get my hands on Sleep.

I wondered how much enjoyment I'd get out of a book which really, has one prime setting throughout but I was pleasantly surprised. Cally creates a dark and mysterious location for the characters to thrive and throughout the plot drops plenty of red herrings to keep the reader guessing. I certainly didn't guess the main plot twist but I enjoyed trying to! The book touches on some really important subjects and although at first, I thought the guests of the hotel to be slightly dull, I was proved wrong as we learnt more about them. Anna as the protagonist was developed incredibly well throughout, I was concerned she could end up quite whingy but she certainly bit back!

Story starts with very typical letter -
If you are reading this, I am already dead…..

I have lost count how many times I read thrillers which starts with that so as soon as I started reading, I put myself on high alert so that I would not be overly disappointed. Thank God, it has turned out as good as it could be.

As the story progresses, it becomes obvious that each guest is lying or they have some secrets of their own. What didn’t set well with me is, every secret is not related to the story. Whose life is without secrets? none’s but does each one’s secret is relevant to the story? No. but I can understand need to spill everyone’s then only you can decide its relevancy, I guess.

As expected, or not expected (depending how you want to say it), it was total surprise to find killer. That is the other problem with reviewing psychological thrillers. There are very few decent thrillers out there that made you want to gush about it but it is difficult to actually do it without spilling beans.

I really like these type of stories where we are isolated from outside world and trying to figure out whodunit. It is very Agatha Christi theme but again my problem is since there are so many people are being introduced, it is entirely possible to lose track of everyone’s story and trying to remember who’s who? However, Taylor did it so effortlessly; I hardly struggled to remember each character.

Overall, I am very pleased with this novel and I would want to read more from this author, indeed.

Anna Willis is involved in a fatal car accident involving her work colleagues. She escapes with minor injuries, but the psychological impact is lasting and her inability to sleep well affects her hugely. Ending her already failing relationship with Alex, and receiving a couple of strange sleep-related notes, she decides to start fresh and move to the Isle of Rum. Getting a job at the Bay View Hotel she hopes to get away from her past and finally get some sleep, but is one of the guests, with all of their own secrets, the exact thing she was trying to get away from?

C.L Taylor has written fabulously. Her writing is really engrossing and the amount of emotions you feel through her rollercoaster ride of a story is fantastic.

The central character, Anna, was very likeable and I felt immediately drawn to her. You could empathise and understand her thoughts and emotions, whilst also feeling sorry for her and everything that was going on.

It kept me guessing right until the end, and I honestly hadn’t a clue ‘whodunnit’. The clues made sense and it wrapped itself up really nicely.

Of course I couldn’t review this book without a thank you - thanks to C.L Taylor for the wonderful competition that I won. Seeing my name as a character in a book is amazing and I hope all the other Becca’s out there enjoyed seeing a character with our name - it’s not a common occurrence for sure!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

To date, I have thoroughly enjoyed every single book that C L Taylor has written, and always pounce with great anticipation on any new ones that come along, so I was delighted to be invited to review 'Sleep'...and as always I was hooked.
The book opens with the key event; Anna has been out with her work colleagues, with whom it's fair to say that she doesn't have the best of working relationships! There is a disagreement, a distraction - and a horrific car crash. Two of her passengers die, one is permanently disabled - and Anna is injured, but after a stay in hospital, she walks away!
But Anna carries guilt, the blame for the accident sitting heavily on her shoulders; she struggles to sleep, suffering from nightmares and terrors as she relives the crash, and becomes increasingly paranoid, convinced that someone is out to get her.
Finally, in desperation, Anna flees to a new job and a new start as a hotel receptionist on a remote Scottish island. However, as clouds gather over the island, and its occupants become stranded by the storm things take a sinister turn....
I really enjoyed this book. It certainly kept me reading long into the night!
I give it 4 stars.

I've read quite a few C.L Taylor books now so I was delighted to hear I had been pre-approved to read Sleep. This is another brilliant book by C.L. Taylor. I love a whodunit and there's something about strangers stranded in a remote place, cut off from the world with a murderer among them that captivates me. Sleep was an enjoyable read, full of suspense and kept me guessing.

Thank you to Harper Collins and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

Sleep by C.L. Taylor was an answer to my prayers as I’ve been trying to find and read more locked-in type novels with a promise of lots and lots of possible suspects. If this isn’t one that fits the description then I don’t know what is! I’m such a fan of these settings where there’s no escape and the person forming a threat is right there.. it gives me a thrill to try and work out who it is.

I don’t know why but at first I thought that sleep itself might be a dangerous thing for Anna but, luckily for me, the novel doesn’t take this disturbing route but even if it’s not spooky scary, the novel can still keep you up and give you a sleepless night in the end ;-).

Anna’s reasons for finding it hard to get to sleep are quite different from mine though. She was involved in an accident where some people lost their lives and she feels terribly guilty even though it wasn’t her fault. Unfortunately, someone else feels she is exactly the one to blame. The motive was quite straightforward but the one with ill feelings was not easy to spot. This mysterious person starts taunting her, asking her how she can sleep. In an effort to leave it all behind her she takes a job in the only hotel on the Scottish island called Rum but it will soon turn out that the taunts haven’t stopped and even increase in intensity. Someone’s followed her and is looking to make her pay.

I very much enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind all of it. The author managed to surprise me halfway through the novel with a great twist and threw in some red herrings towards the end as well so that nobody escapes from being a suspect. At a certain time I thought I’d picked up on a tiny clue and I was getting more excited when there was a reference later again but alas, she still managed to wrongfoot me. It was only right at the end that I was certain I had put my money (figuratively!) on the right person. Yay me!

The novel is similar to An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena so I can recommend this novel if you enjoyed reading the former and can’t get enough of it! Sleep.. or don’t sleep if it’s as gripping to you as it was to me!

Another claustrophobic thriller from the writer of The Fear. Following a devastating accident resulting in the death of two of her colleagues and life changing injuries for a third, Anna is riddled with guilt. It's affecting everything from her job to her relationship and especially her sleep. She decides to remove herself far from the dreaded memories and start a new life on the isolated island of Rum. However, within just a few days of starting work at the Bay View Hotel, another person is dead, suspicion is everywhere and with a storm raging outside, Anna's paranoia reaches new levels. This really put me in mind of a modern day Agatha Christie. The suspects are all holed up together, unable to leave or contact the outside world. In the meantime, one person is dead, others are injured and our protagonist appears to be in mortal danger - but from which guest? Each one has a past that makes them a potential suspect and it's touch and go as to whether Anna and the other guests can outlast both the storm and the killer. A recommend thriller with a clever twist.

An enjoyable read which kept you guessing to the end. Not exactly a brilliant recommendation for travelling to Rum! The characters were well drawn and made you feel involved in the story.

I have read a few C.L. Taylor books in the past and enjoy her storytelling and building of suspense. 'Sleep' was no different. The novel opens with a letter written by Anna the narrator, stating that if you are reading this, she is dead. This immediately hooks the reader, posing unanswered questions that urge them to find out why. The novel that flashes back to three months ago, where Anna was in a tragic car accident with 3 of her work colleagues. Blaming herself, she struggles to put the event behind her and develops insomnia. She then starts to receive unusual messages relating to sleep and believes someone is following her. Unable to cope with the anxiety plus the claustrophobic pressures of her London life, she applies for a job in the remote Scottish isle of Rum in the hope of escaping the nightmares and having a fresh start
2 weeks into her new job working at The Bay Hotel, a group of guests are greeted by a raging storm which shows no signs of leaving. Forced together in the tiny hotel, tensions soon rise and Anna begins to realise that someone is not who they say they are. Someone knows what happened to Anna. Someone wants her to sleep. Permanently.

I have to say, I raced through this thriller. I was kept on my toes the whole way and was caught off guard when the 'stalker' was revealed. There were a lot of cleverly placed red herrings and that kept the mystery alive. I particularly enjoyed the setting - a remote island cut off from the outside world with no wi-fi or phone signal due to stormy weather. I imagine that is not unusual for Scotland, even in the summer. Each character had an interesting arch and a background that suggested they could be the stalker. It was well researched and put together,

My main critique is the writing style. I thought the plot was great and the characters were well-integrated into the story with sideline stories to avert the readers attention away from the main story. However, I just wasn't a huge fan of the language in parts, the way people spoke to each other (the use of the term 'mate' with Steve and Mo got on my nerves for example because I felt it wouldn't be used in real life). Some parts I just thought could have been edited slightly to reflect people's ages. Other than that small criticism, I enjoyed the book and would recommend.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a brilliant book and an oxymoron of a title because I couldn’t sleep during the reading of this book. Cally’s writing is so brilliant that I ended up not trusting anyone – even wondering if it was me wot dun it! The ending as well, means the story has not necessarily ended, even though it does draw to a close. Highly recommended.

This book was certainly a page turner. It was really intense. It made me try to guess the story the whole time.
Taylor is an expert keeping the tension high, that's why I liked reading this a lot. It delivered a true thriller.

If you like really dark, psychological thrillers that will keep you at the edge of your seat, this is for you.
Thank you to Netgalley, and publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.
