I enjoyed this book. After reading others' reviews, I was a little stumped. Also the description or blurb of the book didn't really "match" it, so to speak. Just my opinion. But it did hold my attention and I loved the surprises here and there. I only wished it had been more surprising, maybe a bit more to the story. I had no trouble finishing it thpugh, because I did want to find out how everything ended. I just kind of expected something else to be happening as well.....

I'm going to warn you all now that this book tackles a lot of tough and somewhat taboo subjects, so if you are sensitive to the discussion of suicide, please do not read this book.

As someone who enjoys listening to true crime podcasts (which is kind of strange to say), As a British ex-pat, I prefer the calm voices of the British ones, and when I chose this book to read, I felt from the synopsis that this could quite easily have been real life! Well, at least in the small Essex Town that I am from.

At the beginning of the book, you meet Hannah, who seems to have it all! A quiet life with just her and her husband Mark, free of the burdens of children, but that doesn't stop her from secretly wanting them, and the only fly in the ointment is her estrangement from her sister Diana and niece Mia. But that all suddenly changes one day when Diana and Mia arrive on Hannah's doorstep, opening up a can of jealousy, lies, and deceit, that blows everything to smithereens.

My Sister's Lies is truly a mind-blowing book! You honestly cannot believe that someone would be SO hateful to try to destroy everything someone else has! The treachery in this book is a living thing! That just consumes everything and nearly everyone! I cannot express just how much this book has gripped me!

The author S.D. Robertson is a new to me author, but he is a brilliant author, his writing style is thrilling and his plotline was addictive! And I wanted to know more of the aftermath with Mia! If there is one book that should be made into a film (no matter how messed up the subject matter) My Sister's Lies should be it!

Twin sisters Diane and Hannah have not spoken for 10 years, Hannah is happily married to Mark, and so it is a shock when Diane turns up on Hannah's doorstep with her 14 year old daughter Mia and asks her to look after Mia for a few days. As the days turn into weeks Hannah starts to get worried........what can have happened to Diane, where is she.

A good family saga, verging on thriller, a bit slow to start with, but plenty of family secrets and lies to come spilling out. I thought the therapy sessions were a really good idea to fill in details and all together an enjoyable read

There were quite a few storylines going on in My Sister’s Lies, and even more unexpected twists thrown in that made me stop and question what just happened. I was intrigued by the family relationships and dynamics, and was very curious to find out how certain situations were going to be handled, so I do have to say that the novel kept me captivated and interested. I do think it was a bit drawn out, especially towards the end, but overall a good read.

Sometimes I wonder what life is all about, and then I read a book like this which deals with tough topics like suicide, loss of a sister, and devastating lies. This might seem to be a fictional tale, but with billions living in this earth, it might have happened to someone.

S. D. Robertson has taken this slice of life about a wickedness, a jealousy, and the need to feel better about oneself and written a story about two sisters Hannah and Diane. The story goes thus, Hannah and Mark lead a happy childless life when Hannah's sister Diane, out of the blue, leaves her daughter Mia with them apparently for a few days as she sorts out her life. Both the sisters have had a fallout years ago and no longer speak to each other till this day.

A tragedy occurs and secrets are revealed, some innocent, some played. The whole story deals with the repercussions of it all. The book which has vibes of a thriller, is a family story and it just squeezes the heart at some points. The only niggle I had was some parts felt slow, but that may be because I am used to the thriller pace.

S D Robertson's writing felt smooth for most parts, the last few pages made me cry... One can't hate the other who is dead, it's a waste of energy. Love surpasses all that.

I went blind into the story, but I came out with a film of tears. Such is life, things happen, and one has to find the beauty in it. All my love for the book is for the dialogues written as messages of Diane to Hannah and Mia.. That touched my heart. I am writing this review with my heart still heavy.

Where has Diane gone? Her twin Hannah, from whom she's been estranged, has found herself caring for Diane's daughter Mia, who doesn't know what's happened either. There are old family secrets and lies here that will come tumbling out. Hannah's husband Mark knows something, Hannah knows something, and poor Mia is stuck in the middle. There are transcripts of therapy sessions which will help you understand where this is going. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This doesn't have many surprises but it's a decent read.

Thank you Avon Books and Net Galley for an early copy of My Sister’s Lies. At first, it took me a bit to get into this book but I'm so glad I did. Loved the characters, it was an emotionally charged book. The family dynamics were soooo real. Bittersweet! Just Loved it!!

This was a reasonably enjoyable book although I would have liked more twists and turns - there was no suspense and it was easy to guess the 'big reveal". I was not a fan of the transcripts which felt shoehorned in with stilted conversations between Hannah and her therapist.

I’d like to thank Avon Books UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘My Sister’s Lies’ by S D Robertson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Twin sisters Hannah and Denise had a disagreement eleven years ago and there’s been no contact between them until Denise turns up on Hannah’s doorstep asking if she and her husband Mark can take in her fourteen-year-old daughter Mia for a few days while Denise sorts some things out. As a few days turns into weeks, Mark goes to Denise’s home and it’s only then that secrets are revealed that could destroy their lives.
‘My Sister’s Lies’ is a story of the love between two sisters despite being estranged for many years due to a massive argument. Sections of the narrative are given over to dialogue between Hannah and her counsellor, Sally, which give additional depth to the story. The novel is easy to read with interesting characters and an imaginative storyline that’s handled with compassion and empathy. I can recommend this novel to other readers.

Every so often while reading My Sister’s Lies, a big dinner gong felt like it went off right beside my ear.
‘Wait, what?’ I would think and then have to scroll back through everything I'd previously read in my head, asking myself why I hadn’t added up the clues before.
They were definitely there but S D Robertson is a master of dropping little morsels of information that might seem insignificant but you soon realise are clearly relevant in the end.
There’s no gentle easing in to this book, he smacks you in the face with the story right from the start. I was lounging on the sofa but it made me sit up straight.
I really like it when something dramatic happens right at the beginning (no spoilers) but you’re not sure who is speaking and it keeps you guessing.
This is an emotional tale that delves deep into family relationships, not just between Hannah and Diane but everyone connected to them too. It was very dark in several places and I think it would be easy to get weighed down by it but the writing keeps it engaging.
I also liked the way the book included transcripts between patient and therapist, it felt like it helped give a bit of necessary breathing space – although there never seemed to be a good point to put it down.
This was one of those stories where I really wasn't sure how it would end. I felt like it could go several ways but I was satisfied with how everything was resolved.
Another powerful novel to add to Stuart's growing list.

This book brought me to tears with a heart-wrenching story of twin sisters who have been estranged for years. Lies and secrets take their toll on all concerned. This riveting book had me absorbed right from the traumatic beginning.

I looked forward to reading this book after thoroughly enjoying the three previous books by S D Robertson and I was not disappointed. It was full of suspense, emotion and twists and turns. I did not see the ending coming either.

I liked Hannah and Mark from the beginning of the book and as I read on this did turn into mixed emotions.

I like the way that the story developed and felt that things were revealed at the right points in the book.

I look forward to reading the authors next book.

I really enjoyed this book. I would place it more as a women's fiction and not a thriller - though there were some mysterious situations regarding the main characters. But I thought the characters were well developed and the pace was well done that kept me turning the pages. There was a secret never fully revealed at the ending which I wish had had some resolution but overall I would recommend this book and will look for more from this author in the future. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an E-ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for the copy of My Sister's Lies in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book that I've ready from S.D. Robertson, and it won't be my last. The story focuses around husband and wife, Mark and Hannah, and Diane and Mia, Hannah's sister and niece. Diane and Hannah have had an estranged relationship for 10 years until one day, they both show up at Hannah's front door...only for Diane to leave Mia in the care of her sister and husband and she never returns. What happens next is a roller coaster of emotions, secrets and lies. I found that the book started a bit slow; however, it kept me interested because there didn't really seem to be a lull at any point and each chapter kept me interested in what was going to happen next. The book isn't a mystery or suspenseful, it's quite predictable, but told in a way that some people could relate to and it's what makes it a good book, in my opinion. It is emotional and seemed very real. It's a sweet and honest book; an easy, light read. I felt the pain from each character and while the book ended abruptly, it leaves you with your own interpretation of how it should end. I gave the book 4 stars because it was a solid, consistent story and I felt the reality of the entire situation.

Women’s fiction. Relationship difficulties between families plus much more.
Thank you to both NetGalley and Avon Publishing for my eARC of this book in exchange for my honest unbiased review

Another great read by S D Robertson, as this story examines a whole range of emotions mostly brought about by secrets and lies.

There are four central characters, Hannah her husband Mark, Hannah’s twin sister Diane and Diane’s daughter Mia. They each have a difficult relationship with each other mainly due to events which occurred years ago. These are revealed as the story progresses with Mia being the only innocent one in my eyes.

When Diane and Mia suddenly turn up on Hannah’s doorstep after an absence of over 10 years, then leaving Mia in her care, a whole host of questions and worries set a new roller coaster in motion.

I think both Hannah and Diane had their faults and both felt guilty that they had allowed over a decade to pass with neither of them speaking. Hannah turned to counselling during this time and some of the sessions are included chapters in this book. Diane however focused on raising Mia and being the best Mum she could be as a single parent.

My thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC, this is my own opinion of My Sister’s Lies.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

This is melodramatic women’s fiction, and not a thriller as it has been marketed as on some sites. If you love a good sister weepie, with a side of the husband cheating with the twin, you’ll love this. Hits every single cliche.
