I’ve read Obsession by this author so I was looking forward to reading more from this author. I wasn’t disappointed.
This story is about four characters. Faye a beautiful woman, her husband Philip, Erica who wants to be Faye and Philips best friend Jonah who wants Faye.
The only negative I found is the point of views changing without me knowing. Kinda confusing.
I found this to be a well written engaging read that kept my attention from start to finish. If your looking for a book full of tension then I recommend this read.
A new author for me and boy what a page turner. A brilliant psychological thriller which has you constantly sitting on the edge of your seat. In places I was literally holding my breath. ENVY OMG.
We all covet what others have but most of us have boundaries. Now imagine you have no boundaries. How far would you go to to get what you want??? I read this rollercoaster in one sitting. I could not put it down and kept me reading late into the night. This book is a must read, an easy five stars and so Highly Recommended.
I would like to thank the author, Avon Books UK and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
Thankyou to NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author, Amanda Robson, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Envy in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
What a fantastic read. This book has it all, a great storyline, well drawn and compelling characters and a rollercoaster plot.
Well worth a read
Many thanks to Netgalley for my copy of Envy by Amanda Robson. This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. This is a deliciously dark tale of Faye. She seemingly has the perfect life, wonderful husband Phillip, beautiful children and a small modelling career, but underneath the exterior lies a very insecure woman. One who is obsessed with her looks, one who has been told by many in the modelling industry that at the age of 34 she is past her sell by date, so of course her confidence is knocked to the floor. It is Faye' s vanity that is her ultimate downfall.
Neighbour Erica is a lonely woman, overweight with no real social skills. She becomes obsessed with watching Faye. Erica wishes she had Faye' s lifestyle and looks , she becomes completely engrossed by her.
One evening Faye attends a party where Phillip' s best friend Jonah is also in attendance. They end up in bed together and from this point Faye' s life starts to unravel. She wants to forget the whole episode and treat it like a mistake, but Jonah now also becomes thoroughly obsessed with Faye and starts to make her life a living hell. The lives of the characters then go on a twisty journey of wanting something you can't have with the most sinister of outcomes. This book was a real page turner. Robson is definitely on my radar now and I am looking forward to reading Obsession and Guilt.
Great psychological thriller!!! Makes you think how this could actually happen with one neighbor becoming obsessed with another.
Read this book in one sitting. Lots of crazy twists and turns. Definitely would recommend.
Look forward to more from this author.
An interesting book, not my usual kind of read. Having envy in your heart can cause you to do many things you wouldn’t think of doing. A lot of sex in this book which was necessary due to the story. I’m sure there are many people who would devour this book but it was a struggle for me but at the end I was pleased I read it.
Told from different perspectives this book is interesting. Called Envy - at first it’s not clear who envies who......It’ll draw you in and spit you out satisfied. I gave it 4/5 on goodreads.
Envy by Amanda Robson.
My first time reading that author.
3.5 stars.
A good thriller, well written, but also a bit confusing with 4 POVs. It took me some time to get used to it. And I found it a bit hard at times to focus on the story as I was always trying to remember who was talking, who is who... I didn't really connect with the characters but they are well written and interesting.
A bit disappointed by the ending too.
But still a good read I would recommend.
Thank you NetGalley and Avon for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Another hit for Robson, whose one of my top thriller/suspense authors. She has a signature way of writing that really is such a captivating technique for thrillers. This one was definitely suspense building, chilling, and shocking like the other two of hers. A must for my fellow Robson and thriller fans!
Will be recommend to the members of Chapter Chatter Pub!
A really good read - it’s easy to put yourself into the book because everyone has that neighbor who seems to have it all. The books makes you think about what is true and what is really important - a great thriller, with twists, turns, and surprises
I couldn't put this down and read it in one sitting, loved the multiple viewpoints that kept it fast paced and exciting, plenty of twists and turns, amazing! So glad to have discovered this author, love her style., Highly recommended for Psychological Thriller fans.
This was a great read with great twists and turns; however I was expecting something just as exciting for the ending which was a little bland compared to the rest of the book.
Just finished this great read and am sad that I finished it. Finally as I haven’t had a lot of free time to read. Envy had a lot of suspense right till the end. It kind of ended abruptly making me think there could’ve a sequel. This is my first book of Amanda Robson, will definitely see if she has any others. I would give this one a 4 1/2 out of 5! Awesome read
Well this is a right tale of stalking, obsession, fury, longing and ENVY!
Based around the characters of Faye who is beautiful and a model, Erica who is not but wants Faye’s life, Philip Faye’s hubby and Jonah, Philip’s best mate who wants Faye....the book then in short, snappy, direct chapters ( sometimes half a page ) details how these 4 become entangled in their own wants, desires and lusts and just how far ALL of them will go to get what they want!
I LOVED the short chapters although of course this meant the character narration changed almost constantly but I liked how often the first line of the new chapter was the last line of the last chapter but from
a different characters perspective ( if makes sense )
The subjects covered are dark and thrown in as almost a by line was sexual violence from one character, its a small part of the book but came as somewhat of a nasty shock
The story, which could easily hurtle out of control, keeps its on track yet doesn’t lose its urgency and for 90% its full on and vibrant, however the last 10% of the book seems rushed compared to the rest and a couple of the characters do ‘things’ that dont seem in context with how they have been for the rest of the story
None the less a very well written book with a 100% fitting title, Envy is about Envy, all forms and just how deep this emotion can run in some people, you will loathe what the characters become and do but that is a sure sign the author has done a great job
8/10 4 Stars
This is the first book I’ve read by Amanda Robson despite having her other two on my shelf (*eye roll*) and it’s definitely made me want to pick the other two up!
This book is told from 4 different perspectives which are told through their own chapters. One of the things that I really liked about this book was the short chapters. I’m a massive lover of short chapters as they just make the book a quicker read – for me at least, and I think it worked really well with the differing perspectives. Some of the chapters were literally a page or less long and were the characters chucking their thoughts in on an ongoing situation and I really liked seeing those snap shots whilst the scenarios were ongoing.
Despite enjoying the changing perspective, these characters were all so unlikable and I struggled to sympathise with any of them. So if you dislike unlikable characters then stay away from this book whereas I personally don’t mind unlikable characters! There was a bit on drugs in this book and it seemed like it had actually been researched which I thoroughly enjoyed – I ‘m not a fan of unrealistic plots in books that are set in a realistic setting or trying to be as ‘real-life’ as possible so I really appreciated that some thought had gone into the main plot points and it was cleverly done.
Whilst I did enjoy this book, I felt it peaked super early and that the last half, if not 2/3 of the book were just not as interesting. Granted I didn’t know where the plot was going but I do feel like it just slowed down and it wasn’t as gripping. I thought that there was going to be more happening with Erica’s storyline yet that just seemed to slowly die off and whilst she did play an important role in the story, I feel like her perspective maybe wasn’t 100% necessary, especially as it got further into the story.
Overall I thought it was a decent read and I’d recommend it if you’re a fan of crazy and unlikable characters and want something that is going to be a quick, enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon books for my digital ARC, all opinions are my own.
This is a psychological thriller from author A. Robson, her third book. I have read the first two and enjoyed them. However, I have mixed feelings about this one.
There are four main characters in this interesting saga of stalker and obsessive behaviour. Faye is happily married to Phillip and they have two young daughters. In her mid-thirties, she is one of those yummy mummies you see outside the school gates and the envy of most women her age. She also attracted the attention of a woman who is the opposite of her in looks, Erica.
Erica is single, no family and not much of a career to speak of. She sees Faye outside her window when Faye goes past her house during school runs. She wanted to be Faye and envy pulls her into a downward spiral.
Jonah has been best friends with Phillip since university and is now a successful architect, he was always attracted to Faye but she chose Phillip over him many years ago.
Written in different points of view, each chapter is supposedly narrated by one of the main characters but this was not the case at all and I found it very confusing. Luckily I have a paperback copy and it was fine so the ebook version I received must have had formatting issues in which I hope the publisher of this book have addressed.
I must say that the four main players in this story are totally unlikeable. It reminds me of the author’s debut novel, Obsession which I loved. However, in this book I find Faye to be the least sympathetic character of all. Phillip is a pathetic husband who later develops trust issues, Jonah the best friend of the couple is as wretched as well and Erica who was the antagonist actually redeems herself in the last quarter of this intriguing tale of fixation and mental illness. To sum it up, the plot is okay with an ironic twist towards the finale, when the antagonist becomes the protagonist. 3.8 stars!
This was a great psychological thriller. Lots of dark twisty turns. Great character development. Allows the reader to actually empathize, Love or strongly dislike certain players in the game. Great story of how people get so obsessed with life and lovers.
I loved Amanda Robson’s previous books, however I was disappointed with this one. The book is very disjointed and jumps between characters quickly which is often confusing. Overall, I did enjoy it but was expecting more from this excellent author.
The first third of this book was quite good, but then it just became messy and very unrealistic. The ending had no point to it whatsoever.
I have Multiple Point of View Whiplash! There are four different point of views and two of them are very similar as they are obsessed with the main characters. The POV switches happened way too much. I could not get into the character before it would switch again. I was intrigued at the beginning and expected the quick changing POV would slow down to a manageable pace. I was wrong. It took my out of the story too much and I lost interest completely. I pushed through to the end and it still did not feel like it was worth my time.
