Sweet, sassy, and inspiring!
Probably the Best Kiss in the World is a thoughtful, heartfelt tale about rediscovering one’s self, taking chances, following your dreams, and the special bond between sisters.
I found this book on NetGalley, and I thought it sounded familiar (I probably saw a couple of reviews already), and when I read that there's a part that takes place in Copenhagen I immediately wanted to read it. Especially since I wanted to read something light anyway. I love to read around the world!
Funny thing is, I expected to like the book because of the travel aspect, and what ended up completely endearing me was the craft beer brewing part. It gave this story a charming, unique atmosphere. Actually, I think this is what saved it from being just like another cliché romcom.
Otherwise the story was a higher level average, with many highs and a couple of 'oh no, come on that IS a cliché' moments, but in general I enjoyed it very much! The characters seemed at the beginning a little cardboard, overused ones, but they developed into interesting and lovable individuals, and by the end I felt like I wanted to read about them more! I especially loved Lydia, the sister's character, she's really strong and interesting.
I recommend this book to fans of romantic comedies who want to get a bit out of the complete clichés and try some new ideas (beer, for example)!
Jen Attison likes her life Just So. But being fished out of a canal in Copenhagen by her knickers is definitely NOT on her to do list.
From cinnamon swirls to a spontaneous night of laughter and fireworks, Jen’s city break with the girls takes a turn for the unexpected because of her gorgeous, mystery rescuer.
Back home, Jen faces a choice. A surprise proposal from her boyfriend, ‘boring’ Robert has offered Jen the safety net she always thought she wanted. But with the memories of her Danish adventure proving hard to forget, maybe it’s time for Jen to stop listening to her head and start following her heart…
This was a sweet, quick romance. There was very little plot involved but I enjoyed it anyway.

Brilliant book. Totally engrossed in the story from the very first page. Jen is seeing Robert and they are bumbling along with their twice weekly date nights. She’s responsible for her younger sister Lydia after her parents were tragically killed. The story follows her journey and the relationships she has along the way.
Pernille Hughes has a lovely way of writing and the story isn’t predictable. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, feel bereft now as I want to know what happens next...
This book was a cute and cheesy quick read. Probably the Best Kiss in the World follows Jen’s journey of learning to break free from the mechanical and fully planned out methodology that she followed in order to pursue her dream aspiration of opening a brewery. I appreciated that though romance was an element in this book, it wasn’t the main focus and instead focused on her discovering herself and bettering her relationship with her family.
I thought that the plot was interesting and easy to follow and I felt like I could relate to Jen and her development as a person.
I could feel the chemistry between Jen and the love interest and I thought that it was realistic and not the dread insta-love.
This book warrants 3 stars from me because I really enjoyed the book and found it a light afternoon read however, it didn’t really stand out to me in anyway.
Now I personally am a huge fan of To Do Lists, so immediately I like Jen as a character. I found myself wishing she were real so we could be bestie's. This is a very well written book and as the story progresses you can easily see the characters developing. This is one thing I really enjoyed as there were points when I wanted to slap some of the characters but as stated they grew as the book went on and the urge to slap them reduced.
Now as is the routine of my reviews, let's talk about the hook! By this I mean the point where I didn't want to put it down. I will admit I did find that I was slow to get into this book. However the hook came with Chapter 9. After this the book kept gaining momentum and I didn't want to stop reading. I got into the book wondering what was going to happen next with Jen and co. At this point it took me three days or less to finish this book.
Another thing I found rather refreshing is that this is not the same old love story. As you can tell from the blurb this story is not simple in the love department. She has a choice and reading about the Jen figuring out which choice is right for her is entertaining.
My final thoughts on this book are simple, I loved it. I will definitely be checking out her previous title. I will also be keeping an eye out for any future releases.
This title is just downright silly. I do love me some silliness. But halfway through this romance I got bored. Big time bored. The plot then took a turn towards super silly and crazy predictable. Even though I liked MOST of the characters, I found Jen the main character too needy and controlling, I started skipping full on pages. I enjoyed Lydia, Jakob, Max and Annie. But come on, Jen was a bore. Lydia most definitely should have been the main character. Give her more pages! Give her more of a plot. I finished this silliness. But I think I'll be skipping the next one.
I was so excited to read this book, but unfortunately it fell flat for me, enough that I actually decided to put it down three-quarters of the way through.
Almost all of my problems lie with the main character. Jakub was lovely, a teensy bit bland, but overall definitely an appealing love interest. Jen, however, was so FRUSTRATING. I think part of why she irritated me so much was the way she was written. I've read and loved protagonists who are very much Planners, unwilling to give up on what they think they're supposed to do with their lives. That's all well and good, but Jen's decisions just felt so obviously WRONG. The author was never able to quite sell this character, who has her head stuck so firmly in the sand that she might as well be a seashell. I spent much of the book shaking my head and wondering how Jen could remain so oblivious to her own feelings, even when I as the reader could pick up on them.
Eventually, my frustration with Jen started to overwhelm my enjoyment of everything else, like the charming Jakub and the indomitable Lydia and the thoroughly fascinating world of brewing beer (I don't drink alcohol, but Hughes' descriptions almost make me want to!). Overall, this book ended up being a bit disappointing, but Hughes is definitely a talented writer and I wouldn't say no to trying her next book, as long as Jen isn't in it.
I was really intrigued by the description and other reviews of this book.... but I really thought it was just mediocre. I almost gave up about 30-40% of the way through... but pushed through to see if it got any better, unfortunately it did not.
I really despise cheating storylines so I couldn't get past that. Also, I didn't feel like the main characters had any chemistry. The only redeeming storyline for me was that of Jen's sister, Lydia. I felt that was the only enduring and realistic part of the book.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for and honest review.
Fun read and it's great that Jen gets to not only take lead in her love life, but other aspects of her life as well.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
I appreciated this book. I have been reading heavier material lately and this was just what I needed for some lighter fare. My dad is a craft brewer, so I enjoyed that aspect of this story and of course any book that makes me laugh out loud is a good one. I related to Jen's type A, to-do list personality and relished the moments of her leaving her comfort zone. I am also a sucker for a story where the protagonist is in a relationship that just isn't working and finally breaks free to find her match. The sisterly dynamics in this book were wonderful. This is a worth while read for the beach, in front of the fire, or any time.
Jen is the parental type who has to control everything and those she loves. Her parents died in a tragic accident and she had to make serious decisions on behalf of her younger sister Lydia. Jen focuses too much on Lydia and smothers her to not live her own life. She works for a terrible incontinent pads company but lets her creative side loose through her brewing process. Her dad used to brew as a hobby and Jen has fond memories of it.
Over the years Jen is in a relationship with Robert, who is a safe choice and had her father's approval as a good man. They had scheduled dates and rules and Jen was fine with the minimum sparks because that type of stuff is only in the movies.
Robert out of nowhere proposes to her and now has this whole idea of what she will do with her life once they are married and have kids. On her "hen-do," Jen falls into a river and is saved by theenthralling Jakob. They hit if off right away and he even does beer puns! Now Jen is torn, keep it safe with Robert who her Dad knew and approved.....or follow the sparks?!
Overall this book was a witty romance that sucked you in to the end. It started off a little slow and took awhile to get into it as you learned the backstory of the characters. Once Jen started conversing more with Jakob, it got more interesting and you were rooting Jen to wake up and take control of her own life! As a beer lover, I enjoyed reading of her hobby and Jakob's take on it. It was definitely a fun read. At some points it made you cringe and you just wanted to shake Jen out of it and to follow her own passion. At first the book was too slow, but with the ending it made it a 4.5 star read for me.
Jen is a control freak. Every second of her life is mapped out and planned with apps, lists and spreadsheets. She is the queen of organisation. She is engaged to boring Robert, because boring is safe and predictable right? But what if this isn't the life Jen wants for herself? And what happens when a handsome stranger rescues Jen from an unfortunately mishap and they spend an unplanned, spontaneous evening together? What happens when Jen loosens her grip of control on her own life and is free to enjoy a moment?
Probably the Best Kiss in the World is a really fun and absorbing read! A great set of characters who are relatable and funny. The writing style is great, easy to read and the story is just downright enjoyable.
A perfect little read for anyone who loves this genre!
Jen is a women working on lists. No surprises for her. She loves her sister and she loves her brewing beer. Having a decent boyfriend and a decent job in incopads with strange ladybosses, so her live is all under control. Then things starting to get changed. Suddenly she’s engaged with the boring Robert, and in work she’s been expected to buy in a partnership she can’t afford and don’t want to be into. And during a weekend Copenhagen she meets a handsome men when she falls into the water and he’s her rescuer and they kiss (probably the best kiss in the world). All is upside down from then on. The only steady thing is her passion of brewing beer, but it not suits the plans for her marriage. Will she loose her passion?
It’s a really great story, starting rather slow, but getting better during the book. Jen is first very annoying, but she develops to a women with passion and the guts to makes decisions for herself. Sister Lydia does have a great part in the story with leads to the changes of Jen. Great dialogs makes the persons realistic. Also the special setting the story is about: the brewing and crafting of beer, makes it very unique.
It’s a lovely and romantic story. I love the persons. The story end is exactly what I hoped for, a great happy end, but to get there, the story contains lots of surprises. Magic comes with a price, but Jen now knows how to handle it.
This was the rom com I had been looking for! I absolutely adored it! From the beautiful location set in Copenhagen to the slow burn romance. I laughed, I felt so many feelings, and I fell in love with our two main characters.
I appreciated the light hearted and uplifting mood of the book. It's a very sweet story about friendship, sisterly bonds, letting go, and new beginnings.
I would definitely recommend this for fall/winter reading because it was atmospheric and made me want to curl up by the fire while reading it.
I will definitely be picking up a physical copy because I loved it so much! :)

This book is for you if… you couldn't possibly be more bored and are in desperate need of a somewhat generic but mildly thought-provoking and sometimes even funny Chick-Flick.
⇝Overall.
I still very much remember contemplating whether or not to request this book. I didn't feel touched. Not a bit. Neither by the many positive reviews nor the synopsis itself. But because the rating was so terrific, I decided to trust Goodreads on this one and requested it. Well, if only I hadn't.
I found absolutely nothing remarkable in this book apart from way Lydia's story is told. She is the heroine's younger sister and lost a leg in a car accident almost 10 years ago. Although Jen despises the way other people treat Lydia because of the lack of leg (ha-ha), she herself can't help but hold her protecting hands over her sister all the time. Lydia feels smothered most of the time because what Jen does to "protect" her sister is neither reasonable nor fair. This aspect of the story felt very well depicted and real.
Apart from that, I was mainly bored by the pace this plot unravelled at - it was slooooow. Extremely so. My lack of excitement paired up with my lack of relatable feelings for the romance between Jen and Jakob. Both of these points of criticism played together and almost made me quit around 50% but I really wanted to know whether this book would pick up sometime between then and the end. Spoiler alert: it didn't. This is especially funny because the main character, Jen, brings up this really interesting concept of The six Ps: >>Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.<<
I'm torn between saying "It's me" and sticking up for my confidence. I can't picture a scenario in which I would recommend this to anybody out of nowhere. If somebody were to openly gush about ChitLit I myself would deem rather boring, then I'd mabye bring it up.
➺What’s happening.
Jen just accepted her boyfriend's proposal and finds peace in the knowledge that her future is safe and well planned out, just like she likes to run her life (and her sister's). Jen purposely ignores the disrespectful way in which her fiancé meets her hobbies and passions, personal interests and wishes. She turns a blind eye on the exhausting family she's going to marry into and her happiness in general. And believe me, that mother in law of hers is a total nightmare.
She'd assumed she was marrying Robert, not his mother.
Lydia, Jen's sister, knows that Jen is not acting in her best interest and organizes spontaneous hen-do during in the hopes of getting her out of her trot. And she succeeds. Jen finds herself getting pulled out of the canals of Copenhagen by a very handsome Scandinavian man named Yacob/Jakob.
On the deck, her eyes met with a pair of bare feet, travelled up the blond-haired legs to baggy navy cargo shorts via the bare torso, to wow, back to the torso because ripped, and then reluctantly further on to the face.
Supposedly they feel an instant attraction to each other (I couldn't tell, I didn't even get a fraction of that) and share a very passionate kiss. Jen can't stop thinking about him even after she's returned to her smalltown-home in Great Britain no matter her determination to carry on with the original plans.

Okay chick-lit, not very special.
The story follows the Chick-lit template. Just the passion of the main character is different: making beer. But how different is that really from the homely craft of baking?
Girl with okay life accepts proposal from okay boyfriend. Aside from her hobby there is not much exciting about her life or her future, but that's okay with Jen: she likes the predictable. Then there is the meet-cute with another guy. An attractive guy that stokes her passion about beer and kisses her.
Don't need to read it to know how it will continue. Read it because it's comfy, Hygge.
I have to thank netgalley and the publishers for this ARC that I received a while back and I loved this book. This is my first book by this author and this certainly won't be my last. It put a huge smile on my face. This romance is swoon worthy! I am very thankful that I got a chance to read this one. Such a sweet story! Happy reading....xoxo.
Very definitely rom com book! The story is about Jen and her relationships! I liked how there is different themes throughout the book! Was a joy to read
Probably the Best Kiss in the World by Pernille Hughes is a cute romantic comedy. I really wanted to love this book, but honestly I did not like the main character Jen Attison. I was hoping to warm up to her, but I didn't. I also disliked her fiance Robert too. I did enjoy how everything turned out in the book, and will be giving this author another try.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.
