Such a fantastic book!

Jen is living a safe regimented life with her boyfriend Robert…..living by her lists. In a job that she’s ‘ok’ with but really wanting to pursue her hobby of brewing beer! On one of her date nights her boyfriend proposes, and her ‘yes’ is accepted before she’s had a chance to really consider it….or even answer!!

Her brilliant, and slightly wild, sister is not impressed but after some honest conversations, and more than a few heated debates, she agrees to be her on team Jen and arranges an impromptu hen break, in Copenhagen. Jen’s struggling with not being in control and then falls in the canal trying to save her phone….and her many lists and spreadsheets! She’s fished out by a gorgeous, topless man and they end up spending a lovely evening chatting, eating and drinking beer!

After returning home, wedding plans are in full swing but she can’t get her new friend out of her head…..she needs to make a decision! She’s set on marrying Robert….safe and dependable with a ‘plan’ for them for the future….but is it her plan? Is it what she really wants? And ultimately what will she decide?!

I loved this story, and the characters! Jen is brilliant, if a little frustrating to begin with. Her sister is brilliant – you’d have a brilliant night out with her! And Jen’s friends are brilliant and supportive. Robert is…..pretty boring and Yakob is amazing! At times I wanted to kick Jen, but completely routed for her the whole way through!

Pernille has done an excellent job! I felt like I was there with them all the time; like I was a silent friend who was shouting at her and nudging her but not being heard! If you love a rom com then this is for you, and if you’re planning a holiday….laying on a sun lounger with a book then this would be perfect! Highly recommended by me! I look forward to reading more from Pernille.

Get ready to fall in love with a riotous new voice in romantic comedy! Pernille Hughes is a hilariously witty and wonderfully talented writer guaranteed to make readers roar with laughter. I raced through Probably The Best Kiss in The World and I simply cannot wait to read more books by this exceptional storyteller.

Excitement and drama are two things that Jen Attison could, quite frankly, do very well without. Happily cocooned in her own safe little world, Jen likes her serene, sedate and stress-free life and is not the slightest bit interested in taking a walk on the wild side or in giving into spontaneity and doing something outrageous and out of character. Jen likes her life just so and nothing and nobody is going to force her out of her comfort zone, but could a trip to Copenhagen end up changing things and showing Jen that sometimes you simply need to stop thinking about the consequences and take a leap into the unknown?

Being fished out of a canal in Copenhagen by her knickers was not exactly something Jen had planned for or ever thought that she’d ever have to endure – especially as her gorgeous rescuer happens to be the handsomest man she has ever clapped eyes on. A trip with the girls to Copenhagen ends up widening Jen’s horizons and making her embrace spontaneity and the unpredictability of life. However, on her return back home, Jen finds herself forced to make a choice between the old Jen who liked things just so and the new and improved version of herself who has finally come to realise that variety truly is the spice of life!

Surprises look set to keep on coming for Jen as her boyfriend pops the question. Marrying Robert would give Jen the security and comfort which she has craved for so long. But should she follow her head and marry Mr Boring and Sensible? Or should she heed what her heart is telling her and reconnect with the handsome rescuer who turned her entire life upside down?

Probably the Best Kiss in The World is a fun read that is perfect for fans of Jill Mansell and Sophie Kinsella. A fabulous feel-good romp about taking chances, fresh starts and delicious cinnamon swirls, Probably the Best Kiss in The World is romantic comedy gold with its brilliant cast of characters, delicious one-liners, nail-biting emotional drama and laughs aplenty.

A fabulously uplifting tale from a writer who is set to become a superstar in the genre, Probably the Best Kiss in The World by Pernille Hughes should not be missed.

As you read this book, it becomes clear that the past is having a great effect on Jen and on her sister. You get to see how they work out their issues and whether they are able to move on and embrace a new future. There are some genuinely funny parts to the story and although the past has some horrific events, for the main part, there is a hopeful story.
Jen, in particular, has a quirky character although she feels a great deal of responsibility for her younger sister. You always feel that you are rooting for her as she shows her courage and determination throughout. With a great lashing of romance and a certain depth to the relationships which are explored, this turns out to be an enjoyable and at times, thought provoking read.

In short: Follow the passion!

Thanks to the author for a copy of the book.

Cute book. There were times when I didn’t like Jen so much but she realizes how she’s acting and fixes it. It was an easy read and one I will recommend to friends looking for a cute rom-com story.

Jen Attison has been through a lot in life. When she finds herself accidentally saying yes to her boring boyfriend’s proposal, her sister Lydia decides its time for a change of scenery.
Jen’s city break to stunning Copenhagen takes an unexpected turn when she is rescued, soaking wet in a canal in only her knickers, thanks to her friends.
Jen has a choice to make... her boring boyfriend with his surprise proposal... or something else entirely.

Compared to the amazing romantic comedies by Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk or Mhairi McFarlane, this was a good contender, although I have to admit I didn’t care much for Jen. Lydia, her sister, on the other hand, is perfect. She makes the whole story worthwhile and was incredibly well fleshed out, especially when compared to the supposed protagonist.

I would recommend this book - it is lighthearted fun, with some amazing one liners which had me chuckling.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. My opinions have no way been influenced by this.

I was curious about Probably the Best Kiss in the World because it sounded like a fun romcom set in Copenhagen and I was really looking forward to discovering a bit more about this city and have some fun with the characters. Unfortunately, the story was not what I expected. There is very little action set in Copenhagen and although there were elements in the story that I liked, the relationship between the two sisters was really well developped and very interesting,, I did not enjoy the story in general. I unfortunately didn't like the main character and the decisions she made. And some secondary characters, like her bosses and their family, felt a bit too unrealistic.

Favorite Quotes:

“This ring was my great-grandmother’s, on Mumsie’s side,” he explained, plucking it off her palm as she stared shell-shocked at him, “apparently, it hasn’t seen daylight since the undertakers took it off her finger and handed it to my granny … Oh. It’s too big.” Great-granny must have had salamis for fingers, the ring would have fallen freely off Jen’s thumb.

I should wash your mouth out with soap. This is a haven of romance and dreams. Shame on you. I’m going to fill this space with old romance novels to ward off your bad vibes.

Ava’s mother, though short, filled the entire width of the doorway. Her penchant for floral two-pieces did nothing to lessen this spatial illusion, whilst also making her look like a walking sofa. Her enormous blonde curls were immaculately dyed and set, and doubled the size of her head, which might have appeared comical, had it not perfectly matched the size of each of her huge boobs. Height aside, everything about her shouted Big Personality and she hadn’t even opened her mouth yet. Jen braced herself.

Right now she was a cocktail of emotions. The Molotov kind.

My Review:

I giggle-snorted with glee at Ms. Hughes generous servings of clever levity and highly amusing storylines, although I struggled more than a bit with her profoundly flawed, ridiculously inflexible, and greatly annoying main character or Jen, who really needed a kick in the arse. Jen was a pragmatic list maker and control freak whose issues and acquired traits created a considerable conflict for me, yet it was ultimately an enjoyable one with a satisfactory evolution.

Ms. Hughes’s characters were uniquely intriguing and enticingly quirky. I was highly entertained and engaged throughout by her witty and creative use of humorous insights and observations. Thankfully, Jen didn’t actually require a surgical procedure to fully dislodge her deeply wedged cranium from her posterior region, although she did require a considerable helping of misery and comeuppance to work it clear on her own.

Witty, warm .. and a warning to anyone who thinks of 'settling' for safe . . .

Jen Attison is a young woman I can identify with; she has her own way of doing things and is a bit set in her ways. A weekend in Copenhagen has been on her list for a long time but it's never reached the top - until a surprise is sprung! What she doesn't realise is that it may well make her re-assess everything which features in her comfortable - but predictable - life.

This is a gorgeous, magical read! With some very clever writing - beginning with the title - it made me smile, giggle and nod my head in understanding all the way through. From Jen's work to her relationship, and not forgetting her passion, there is tons going on and it's such wonderful reading! Other characters just add to the fun, each with their own personalities, strengths and foibles and I just cannot fault this one at all. A rom-com is what is promised, and it delivers - big time! This is my first foray into Pernille Hughes' books, and it has definitely put this author firmly on my radar. Bursting with entertainment value, this is a full five star read!

Some books you just know you're going to love from the opening moments and this was certainly one of those numbers. The story line was captivating with charisma and charm with several beer puns thrown in to lighten up the festivities. The narrative was laced in love and longing for living the best life possible and draws you into its welcoming midst like a new friend. With sparkling and witty writing this book has everything to offer and I fell hook, line and sinker for each and every word.

Jen is a dream of a character who captured my heart and stole the show in my opinion. Flawed? Absolutely....but these traits, combined with an abundance of endearing qualities added up to one selfless, talented and hardworking woman. Lydia was the shining inspiration in the cast and delivered, in spades, on bravery and determination to get back up after a blow and I was right behind her, shaking my pom-poms, for each life affirming step she took. Ooohhhhh is it time to talk about Yakob yet? Be still my beating heart....there's a Danish demigod dishing out Oscar worthy kisses and let me tell you they were what dreams are made of. He certainly brought the sizzle to the story and I was all for pushing Jen back into that canal for my moment in the spotlight. Aherm.....moving swiftly on!!!

Probably the Best Kiss in the World is everything is says on the tin. It has heart and soul, swoon worthy smooches and generous amounts of ale served on the side for good measure. As you can tell I loved this book....but don't just take my word for it - download it today and dive straight in. You won't be disappointed.

I spent a weekend snuggled up in my living room with this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ story, I enjoyed the characters almost as much as I wanted to knock some sense into them. Every single one of them was perfectly flawed, in as much I was rooting for them to succeed at the same time as shaking my head at their logic or lack thereof.
It was most definitely the characters in this story that kept me reading, Jen being almost neurotic to Yakob.
The flow of the story was paced well and matched the tried and tested beats.
#ProbablyTheBestKissInTheWorld is definitely worth taking the day off from doing the chores and curling up on the sofa for

I found this one mostly easy to read and enjoyable. But the articles that were randomly dotted throughout the story really threw me off. I found that I’d be really hooked on the story, powering through and then I got stopped by some article about Lydia, her younger sister. Am I meant to be caring about her sister? Is her sister somehow super important to the overall story?

By the time I got to the end I could see how Lydia was important in helping Jen become more self-aware and confident enough to follow her dreams. But I don’t feel like the articles added anything to the overall story, so I’m not sure why they are there.

On the other hand, Jen and Jakob’s relationship was sweet and endearing even though I don’t like how Jen went about starting her relationship with Jakob. I’m not a fan of cheaters, and I don’t think we should be glamorising those who cheat and that they can still get what they want from life.

But I also get that sometimes you do just get carried away, and before you know if shit’s gone down that you regret. I just wish she’d been more upfront about all that with Jakob and Robert.

The fact that Jen and Jakob’s relationship centres around beer was quite entertaining to me. Especially since there were references to stereotypes that women don’t like beer and couldn’t possibly understand beer. I loved that this felt like a subtle dig that women can do stuff men can as well. Specially considering if you go back far enough in history, it was actually the women who brewed beer first.

Sweet, sassy, and inspiring!

Probably the Best Kiss in the World is a thoughtful, heartfelt tale about rediscovering one’s self, taking chances, following your dreams, and the special bond between sisters.

The writing is witty and light. The characters are quirky, dependable, and endearing. And the plot is a funny, engaging tale full of friendship, family, self-reflection, determination, independence, happiness, humorous mishaps, romantic moments, and an in-depth look into all the intricacies of craft beer making.

Overall, Probably the Best Kiss in the World is a passionate, delightfully heartwarming tale that reminds us that sometimes things happen for a reason and if we stay open-minded, and believe in ourselves anything is possible.

This was a fun lighthearted romcom with a cast of delightful characters. Jen isn’t necessarilg living her best life, but she’s living a life she’s comfortable with. She doesn’t have a dream job, but she has a job that she’s good at. Her boyfriend/fiancé doesn’t make her swoon, but he’s reliable. Jen however has a different side to her as well. She is a little quirky, a lot opinionated, and she has a passion for brewing beer. When Jen’s sister Lydia plans a surprise trip to Copenhagen, a dream holiday for Jen, she finds her life turned upside down. When she is trying to rescue her cell phone from the canal she ends up falling in and is rescued herself by a handsome Dane. They end up spending a magical evening together and he does make Jen swoon. So what happens when Jen returns home?

I truly love this book there was such charm to this story. However, The blurb is a little misleading. The events are not in the correct order. Jen got engaged and then went to Denmark where she meant this handsome stranger. SO let’s call a spade a spade, Jen cheated on boring Robert. AND your fiancé being boring is NOT a valid reason to cheat on him, if you’re bored get out! Sorry, I have strong feelings on this, and I was so torn in this book because I really like Jen and I really did not like her with Robert. Completely understood and empathize with Jen’s sister Lydia. Lydia was a fabulous character, she was so strong, had so much heart, and she was such an amazing support to her sister. I’d have to say I’d absolutely love a follow-up to this book that features Lydia, loved her! I truly thought I knew where this book was going, but then it took a bit of a swerve that I truly thought was perfection.

Pirnelle Hughes has written an exceptional romcom. The perfect balance of humor, family, friendship, and love. And if it weren’t for the cheating I would have given this book a full five stars, but that is a trigger for me, so sorry. But just like you can love a book full of characters you don’t like, you can also love a book where characters do things you don’t like. Simply put this was a lovely romcom that made me want to visit Denmark and have a beer! 🍻

*** Big thanks to Harper Impulse for my copy of this book ***

This story is probably one of the best RomComs in the World, IMHO! It is a heartwarming story filled with great characters, romance and laughter - I really didn't want to put it down!

Jen Attison was responsible for bringing up her younger sister, Lydia, including making life-changing decisions about her treatment, after she was seriously injured in a tragic accident will killed their parents. Jen has always like life to be organised and safe since the accident. She has a job she finds boring, a boyfriend who epitomises safe and he plans for them to get married soon.

Lydia is secretly rebellious - a real dare-devil determined to make the most of life despite being an amputee. I have to say I really admired Lydia for her determination and bravery - she's an inspirational young lady! Lydia doesn't like the idea of Jen marrying Robert and makes plans to take Jen to Denmark for her hen party. Jen is a talented brewer, winning prizes in local contests and having her own, small brewery in their back garden. A holiday in Denmark and the opportunity to visit brewers there is a dream come true for Jen. What she didn't anticipate was falling into a canal there and being rescued by a handsome, attractive man who is anything but boring! Should she keep to the safe, secure way or take a chance for once?

This is a lovely story of sibling relationships, daring to dream and taking chances as well of romance. The characters are easy to relate to and I particularly liked how they developed through the story. There are plenty of surprises in store for readers as the twists and turns of this story keep you guessing. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments with more serious ones interspersed as Jen has choices to make that will affect the rest of her life but there's also a revelation to be made that could scupper all her dreams.....

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and have no hesitation in highly recommending it. I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

In Probably the Best Kiss in the World we meet Jen who has been trundling along quite happily in her life all be it in a quiet and sedate kind of way when her life changes after accidentally falling overboard in Copenhagen. In steps her rescuer and life starts to get complicated! As you can imagine from the title there is a kiss and wow and what a kiss! I loved the parts in Copenhagen and that’s simply because it’s the catalyst for where Jen begins to slowly but surely come to life.

Jen is an interesting character she has quite a tragic past and this has affected the way she lives her life and also her relationship with her sister Lydia. Jen is likeable but equally has her flaws which made her a more rounded character. Jen goes on quite a journey and I loved seeing her character blossom, gaining in confidence and start to think about realising her dreams. More importantly you see her relationship with her sister go through some changes that really needed to happen.

Beer is a big theme in this book and I loved all the details especially seeing Jen’s passion for brewing shine through. There is romance but it isn’t the main theme you also get family, friendship and a character that grows as the story progresses.

Probably the Best Kiss in the World is a story that is fun, made me smile and also had a wonderful dash of romance!

I don't drink beer. I don't really enjoy the taste, but after reading the way Hughes describes the process and passion of brewing, I think I would be persuaded to try a craft beer or two. That's how convincing her main character is. Darn it, she managed to make me feel passionate about beer and I don't even touch the stuff.

Jen is a planner, a writer of lists. There is no room for spontaneity or reckless abandonment, because she had to become an adult far too soon. When her parents were killed, and her younger sister became an amputee as a result of the same accident. Since then she has felt responsible for the well-being of her sister. To the point of control and being worried to the point of being oppressive.

Her responsibilities are more important than having fun or following her dreams, which is how she ends up engaged to boring chauvinist Robert. Mr 'hey babe it's time to be barefoot and pregnant, you know you really want to' treats her like a secondary human with no opinion.

So it's no surprise when Jen finds herself drawn to a handsome stranger who shares an interest in her real passion - brewing craft beer. It is the one thing that brings her closer to her father, and she just loves beer. It's a win win passion. A passion that others, mainly men, tend to belittle because she is a woman.

Hughes balances the romance, comedy and the more serious elements of the story really well. The end product is a really entertaining and cheek blushing read. Blushing in a sweet first throes of love kind of way, as opposed to a horizontal tango kind of blush.

I enjoyed the way the author has this fun aspect of the story and then slides the more serious issues by in a subtle way. The guilt and responsibility Jen is burdened by, the way she tries to control her sister because of her disability, albeit for the right reasons, and of course the issue of gender inequality and chauvinistic attitudes in relationships and society.

It's a romantic comedy with compelling characters and an interesting premise.

You are convinced you are in a good place, but suddenly something happens and you see what you have been missing without realizing it. Time to turn your life around and go for what you want the most, right? Of course it is, but nobody told you it was going to be easy.

Being in any kind of relationship means not trying to control the other person, because caring is not synonym to making all the decisions. You mean well, but never do to someone what you do not like someone doing to you.

It’s very clear that life is not a bed of roses, but talking and not sulking is the way to go.

A lovely story about finding true love and your true goal in life. 4 stars.

Thank you, Pernille Hughes and Rachel’s Random Resources.

I would like to thank HarperImpulse and NetGalley for the ARC of "Probably the Best Kiss in the World" by Pernille Hughes.
This was not a traditional romance or rom-com but rather, a layered story of a woman, Jen, who is learning to go after her own dreams. The story focuses on Jen and her progression both personally and professionally. I enjoyed reading about the beer world and how Jen has full confidence in a male-dominated arena but is less secure everywhere else in her life.

Two other important characters are Jen's sister, Lydia, and Yakob. Lydia lives life for the fullest and does not allow anything to slow her down. Lydia helps to push Jen into her metamorphosis. Jen meets Yakob in Copenhagen and they share an amazing kiss together. Yakob encourages Jen to go after her brewing passion and...well you need to read to find out.
