First book by this author and I was not disappointed. Unfortunately I didn’t realise this was the second book from this story however this did not diminish my enjoyment. I will however have to read the first! Cleverly written, believable characters - very enjoyable. I would happily recommend and look forward to more from this author.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

I received this as a ARC from Netgalley then forgot all about it, I am sorry to say. An excellent read and Michael Devlin has a significant back story that if you haven't read the first book in the series, like me then it becomes a must that you do, and I most certainly will. I normally like books that keep the details on the guilty person as near to the end as possible but although around half way through the book the plot is revealed it is still a gripping read. Looking forward to read more by the author.

This book had really good mix of action and courtroom drama. With like-able characters and lots of twists and turns to keep you engaged, it is a very good continuation of this series.

Really enjoyed this crime thriller by Tony Kent. The characters are likeable, there are many twists and turns and the story is very engaging. It is fast paced, exciting and you really want to find out what happened.

Please note that this is the second book in the series. While there are references to the previous book, you can read this book on its own. But definitely worth reading the first book too, just because it's great too.

I really recommend this. Excellent read if yo are after some excitement.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this gripping novel

i dont normally read many of these courtroom dramas but this one sucker punches you right in the stomach

but its not just a courtroom drama, there are police procedures and then theres the violence....and boy its a great mixture of all really....

once you get the characters sorted in your head as there are quite a few...but on the whole i loved this book

important people are being murdered in gruesome ways... crucified and castrated with their testicles shoved in their mouths....but who or why....

there are no leads and no clues to who is doing it....

brilliantly written and will be keeping an eye out for more of this authors works

Follow up to 'Killer Intent', a gripping legal crime thriller with some gruesome murders. Well paced with a great twist at the end.

I was a huge fan of Tony Kent's début "killer intent" So I was expecting great things from book 2 "Marked for Death" unfortunately this for me did not hit the same highs of book one.

We follow three main characters and two interwoven story lines when Lord Chief Justice is found brutally murdered in his London home enter Chief Inspector Joelle Levy tasked with finding his killer.
Michael Devlin A criminal barrister determined to prove his clients innocence and Sarah Truman Devlin's Fiancé hot-shot reporter has the lead story on Lord Chief Justice murder the aforementioned are both returning characters from book one Killer Intent.
The two stories run parallel with Devlin court case and the murders of the lord justice both coming together at the end.
This is a very different book from Killer intent with most of the action taking place in the court room and this was where I found the problem as right from the outset I found this was too similar to an old film "Primal Fear" with Richard Gere, well if I'm honest an almost complete copy bar the crime so the twist was not a surprise just a let down.
I enjoyed the hunt for the killer and found Joelle a new interesting character as she tries to juggle multiple investigations and her private life with her young son, Sarah however is just background noise and a plot device to move the story forward in many ways which is a shame as she played a far more important role in book 1, Devlin is his charming smouldering self and is a fabulous creation I do enjoy spending time with him.

The writing is good and the plot moves at a fair speed I was never bored and kept looking forward to turning the page, Our villain of the piece is fairly cartoonish being able to handle guns and knives and take out many foes in the blink of an eye with no mention of specialised training in his background a little unrealistic for my liking.
I would have liked to have seen the return of Joe Dempsey the star of book one instead of a small cameo towards the end, this was a shame.

This is still a good book and I did enjoy it, it's just that book one was so good I was just disappointed I guess it is better than a lot of trash that's knocking around, here is hoping that book 3 will reach the same heights of book one I shall be returning to Mr Kent's world.
Worth your time and hard-earned cash a good solid summer read.

I like to thank NETGALLEY the Publisher and the Author for the ARC.

Thankyou to NetGalley, the publishers and the author, Tony Kent, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Marked For Death in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
I am ashamed to admit, this book was in my TBR pile for awhile. I am now kicking myself that I didn't read it sooner. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
The storyline was well written and certainly keeps you guessing until the very end. Would definitely read more from this author. 3.5 stars.
Worth a read.

If you like violence then this maybe for you.
My problem was that I found the actual story line boring.
Most of this book has been done previously by other authors.
A real let down for me.

Fast paced and gripping, the crimes are brutal and the race to find a serial killer frantic in this story of a lawyer, his journalist girlfriend and the past catching up with them.

Interspersed with the case of a young man accused of murder, Marked for Death contains so many gut punches buried in its plot twists, it's hard to put down. You'll want to keep reading to discover what happened, why and who was the bad guy in all of this. Nuanced in shades of grey, just when you think you've got it figured out, Kent turns everything on its head. Again.

Truly excellent.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

Thank you to Netgalley for this book.

This is the first book I’ve read by Tony Kent. It’s the 2nd one in a series, and while there are references to the previous case in book 1 Killer Intent, this book can be read on it’s own.

Really enjoyed this crime/legal book and found it hard to put down. I felt the book had very likeable characters and the story really caught my attention. It was fast paced, exciting and thrilling and it was a very well thought out story with many twists and turns in the plot which you didn’t expect which made it more enjoyable to read. The main character was a lawyer, defending a client who was charged with murder and there were courtroom scenes that were very good and well written. Alongside this the Police were investigating several murders that were committed because of consequences of the lawyers actions some years before. I felt this was one of those books where you wanted to know what happened next and continue reading to the end.

I would read another book by Tony Kent about Michael Devlin and really recommend this. All in all, an excellent read. Will be looking at his first book now.

Excellent novel that kept you hooked from start to finish. Lots of undercurrents and no hints as to final outcome. Definitely recommended.

This was a thrilling courtroom drama following the horrific death of a retired Lord Chief Justice. Non stop action all the way through. Very compelling storyline.
