Danielle Steel's latest book shows us that one unwise decision can change the course of our lives as well as the lives of those around us. Emma's mother made a series of unwised decisions and ended up paying for it with her life and her daughter's future. Emma's aunt Whitney is left to help Emma recover from the accident that took her mother's life while reorganizing their lives in a way she had never intended. This story tapped into fears I have as a mother and was very hard to put down. Thank you to Net Gally and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy of this book.
At first I was a little skeptical not being a fan of the celebrity cardboard and glitter, but I fell in love with the storyline and had hard time putting this book down.
Two sisters with two opposite views on how to live your life. Paige was the perfect stage mom, driving her daughter Emma to achieve a career in show business, as her high profile family had been.
Whitney was more down to earth and went to college to earn her medical degree which her family was not impressed, as the only career choice should have been in the show biz circle.
Sadly, an auto accident took the life of Paige and severely damaged Emma's brain, as both were not wearing seat belts.
This left Whitney to give up her free lifestyle and settle down to help Emma recover. This cost Whitney her long standing wealthy carefree boyfriend, but she was slowing getting attracted to Dr. Bailey.
I loved this book mainly because it shows you how one day your life can be idyllic and exactly how you planned it to be, and the next day your whole world can be shaken to the core.
I even have a family member who hates to wear a seat belt, and I sent her a text to buckle=up. So as this book reaches across the globe and saves just "one" life, then Kudos to Ms. Steel.
I recommend this book to be purchased for friends and family.

I’ve been reading Danielle Steel’s novels for years, but I think this may be my favorite. Whitney and her younger sister grew up in Hollywood with their movie star mother and Svengali-like father. Whitney hated the lifestyle, so she went to med school and became a successful psychiatrist. Her younger sister wanted to follow in their mother’s footsteps, but didn’t have the talent. She decided to fulfill those ambitions through her young daughter, Emma. Unfortunately, Emma loses her mother in a car accident in which Emma is critically injured. Whitney takes on responsibility for raising Emma and helping to guide her through her long recovery from a serious head injury. Along the way, Whitney falls in love with Emma’s neurologist; however she tries to keep Bailey at a distance. Bailey is also tentative early on in their relationship since his parents’ marriage ended badly. After many trials and tribulations in Emma’s recovery, they decide to make their relationship permanent. Ms. Steele does a masterful job leading readers through the heartbreaking pain that Emma and Whitney deal with after the car accident and Emma’s subsequent recovery. It really is a beautiful story.
This is a raw and real perspective of the psychological and physical ramifications of a severe brain trauma. As a woman who suffered from a brain seizure and memory loss, I identified with Emma. I also enjoyed seeing Whitney becoming real and learning that love does break down barriers and lead to a better life.
I have enjoyed Danielle Steel stories for many years, but honestly had recently taken a break from them. Well thanks to the opportunities from Net Galley I have been fortunate enough to read arcs of the last 3 Danielle Steel books. I will not be taking any more breaks! I am loving every minute of my reading time. This book is completely different than the previous 2 books, but there is a wonderful, comfortable feeling when reading all of them. You are absorbing into the story. A terrible tragedy, strong likable main characters, a happy conclusion. I absolutely loved that there was an epilogue! My thanks to Danielle Steel, the publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity.
Fantastic. Danielle Steel never disappoints.
Child actress Emma and her mother Paige are in a serious car accident and Emma and her aunt Whitney are left to deal with Emma's traumatic brain injury and plans for her future. With a heart-wrenching recovery underway, Whitney's resilience and dedication to her niece will warm your heart.
Danielle Steel brings emotional depth to her latest work, Silent Night. While there's a thread of romance, the heart of the book hinges on familial love and what one will do for one's family. Emma's life comes crashing apart when she is in a car accident. The child actor must struggle to make sense of a new life with help from her aunt.
Danielle Steel has moved on from her typical type romance novel. book. The subject matter is very real and she handles it in a mature way. You learn a lot about the subject; characters are believable, and you find yourself rooting right along side them and holding your breath sometimes wishing for the good outcome that happens. It is a very quick read and you find yourself hard pressed to put it down...just like all the other Steel novels.
A poignant story, Silent Night is about a young star who loses her mother in a horrific accident and also suffers traumatic brain injuries. Her aunt Whitney valiantly steps in to care for her and selflessly and tirelessly works with Emma to overcome many obstacles. Both undergo lifestyle challenges, with Emma having to relearn common functions all over. This is DS at her best: ugly situation, a few superficial characters, but real depth and emotion with the main players. I love that she included an epilogue because who doesn't like to know what happens years later?
Whitney and Paige grew up with a mother who was a Hollywood star, and a father who managed her career. Paige caught the bug and did everything to ensure her daughter Emma would be a star as well. She was well on her way until tragedy struck. Whitney was focused on her career and had declared that she would not marry or have children, and now she finds herself the guardian of Emma. The main relationship of this book is between Whitney and Emma, and it was touching to watch it develop. Emma works to overcome a traumatic brain injury, and the challenges and emotions associated with that journey were emotional and vivid to read about. While there is a love interest storyline, it wasn't the main theme of the book. A very quick and pleasant read.
A truly remarkable book by Danielle Steel! She did a wonderful job at telling a story about a horrific tragedy and how all that matters is family. This book will be a story I remember for a long time. I would definitely recommend this book and want to thank netgalley for letting me give an honest review of this book.
I have to sound like a broken record on this one because one comment I made about Danielle's last book rings true on this one as well. It feels 'unfinished'
I wanted to know more of what happened with Emma once they returned from Tahoe. How did she do in school? What hobbies did she decide to pick up, etc.?
Let me start by saying, I did NOT read the description on this book before I read it so I had no idea of the subject or content. That being said, I could tell within the first few pages that this book was going to tackle some interesting and controversial issues. The story surrounds Emma, a child TV star, and her mother and aunt. When a tragedy strikes, Emma is forced to relearn everything she has ever known. She finds herself with no desire to return to acting but rather wants to have a normal life. Her aunt Whitney, along with friends and doctors, help bring Emma back from the brink of death but it is not without challenges along the way. Emma loses her ability to hear, speak, or read but slowly works to regain them as the story progresses.
It is a great story, a little drawn out at times but overall a heartwarming read. I read it in one evening.
Whitney becomes the caregiver for her niece Emma after a tragic car accident kills the young girls mother and leaves Emma in a coma. Whitney’s life now revolves around Emma. She is determined to do whatever she needs to do to help Emma recover.
This is a typical Danielle Steel novel. It is heartbreaking and will play to your emotions. It is an entertaining read with the usual happily ever after ending you expect from Steel.
Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Very touching story by Danielle Steel. Excellent story about the importance of family , and how that can grow by circumstance. I will definitely recommend to all patrons.
Yes, here I am again picking up a Danielle Steel title after I’d just mentioned it had been years since I had enjoyed one. Just goes to show you that it’s easy to get hooked right back into her stories. Silent Night is completely different than the last title I reviewed but in many ways it is still the same, drama, romance and a lot of emotion.
Paige and Whitney are sisters that were born to famous Hollywood parents that now as adults are completely the opposite of one another. Paige relished the spotlight that their parents brought to the family and as she got older she tried her own hand at acting but just didn’t quite have the talent to make it big. Meanwhile Whitney despised the world that surrounded her parents and wanted to be as far out of the spotlight as she could be.
After Paige gave up on becoming famous herself she decided she wanted to focus on motherhood. However, missing a man in her life Paige went the route of a sperm donor which Whitney strongly disagreed with and thought was a mistake however as her niece grew Whitney came to love her. Paige then became the biggest stage mom out there thrusting her daughter into the spotlight with Emma’s career really taking off until one night it all came crashing down around them.
Silent Night is one of those books that shows just how quickly life can change for anyone in simply the blink of an eye. One moment life is headed one way and the next it can take a complete turn or even end for some. The story is highly emotional as it shows the struggle for this family involved to continue after a horrific event becomes all too real but even in the darkest of times there can still be hope and love. A definite page turner that the only reason I’m giving 4 1/2 stars would be a few moments of a little too much telling instead of the showing I prefer but overall a completely compelling read.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I received a free copy of SILENT NIGHT by Danielle Steel in exchange for an honest review. Whitney Watts is busy living her single successful life and completely disassociating herself from her parents’ successful Hollywood legacy. Whitney’s sister, Paige, is another story. When Paige failed as an actress, she fully embraced becoming a stage mom for her daughter, Emma, and trying to make Emma a star. Whitney’s jet-setting lifestyle is completely changed when Paige is killed and Emma is severely injured in a car accident. This is the story Emma’s struggle following a traumatic brain injury and Whitney’s change to become the person Emma needs during her recovery.
I liked this book. It had both intensity and sweetness. The romance was understated, which I liked, and completely secondary to the primary plotline. I recommend this novel to those who enjoy women’s fiction.

Danielle Steele does it again great book by her. Thank you net galley, the publisher and Danielle Steele for this opportunity to read her advance copy
Typical Danielle Steel. Sometimes you just want a nice homey read. This was it. Good book!
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book . While I got the book for free, it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
