I really enjoyed this book. I just wanted to sit and read and do nothing else until just now when I finished. But now I want more. I really want to know what becomes of Kara and of Wildflower House. This was a very touching and emotional read. Kara has to overcome so much in her life but like her father tells her she is strong and resilient and I feel like with her new friends she will be ok. The author did a great job of describing the flowers and the beautiful house that Kara moves into with her dad. I hope there will be another book so we can see what Kara ends up doing and hopefully it will be with Seth.
Thank you Netgalley and Grace Greene for the advanced read. I highly recommend reading Wildflower Heart.
Wildflower Heart is a touching story involving a woman who has lived her life believing she was to blame for her mother’s leaving when she was a young girl. When her cheating husband dies a a car accident that also injures her, she moves back in with her father just as he is changing his life. Together, they move to a remote home in Cub Creek, a home that she has no idea of how much it impacted her father’s life.
Life in Cub Creek beings meaning back to Kara, slowly but daily as she also comes back to life and to love.
Wildflower Heart is an interesting read. I have to admit that I tired of it, and especially Kara, in the middle half of the book. However, I am so glad I did not abandon this book, and I definitely didn't see the ending coming. Sometime in the last quarter of the book I became emotionally attached to Kara and want to see how her plan for Wildflower House Plays out. I am glad to see there is a sequel in the works.
Wildflower Heart is a beautifully written emotional and heart wrenching story. Kara's had more than her share of life's tragedy's. Just when she gets back on her feet, another tragedy knocks her back down. With her fathers stoic love and Kara's strength and resilience, she moves with her father to a rundown house with a beautiful field of wildflowers. Both Kara and her father have secrets that both are afraid to reveal. The quirky neighbors help to renovate the house. Kara meets a special neighbor that along with the wildflowers, help her to heal. Just when she is getting back on her feet, another tragedy strikes. My heart breaks for Kara. The descriptive writing had me smelling the wildflowers. The characters are interesting and well developed. Wildflower Heart is the first book in a series and is one of my favorite books I have read this year. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to Grace Greene, Netgalley, and the publisher for an Arc of this book and this is my honest review.
Kara is recovering physically and psychologically from the accident that claimed her husband's life. Her father buys a house out in the country without explanation, and Kara is along for the ride, but she resolves not to get too settled in there. As she and her father begin to restore the old house, she finds herself healing not only from the trauma of the accident but from her mother's death during Kara's teen years, and learns more about her father's own woundedness. A good story, but Kara seemed so remote, it was hard to care about what happened to her. (Netgalley review)
I found this a hard to put down book! Her descriptions of the house and wildflowers were perfect! They both sounded beautiful! I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the next one! Thank you for the early copy!
Kara has faced some heavy tragedies in her life - her mom left their family when she was a teenager, and her husband and unborn baby were killed in a car accident years later. As she has recovered while living with her father, he decides to retire and buys a huge old house out in the country. Kara is unexpectedly moved by the vast garden of wildflowers. They draw her in and help her grow in many ways as she starts this new journey in life and opens herself up to new friends.
Wildflower Heart broke my heart and over the course of the book slowly healed it. Kara isn't new to loss. Her mom walked out on her and her dad when Kara was 14. She marries her college sweetheart and thinks their life is good. On their 6th anniversary, there is an accident that changes Kara's life forever. After she is released from the hospital she goes to her dad's to recover. Her dad surprises her by buying a beautiful house out in the country and wanting Kara's help fixing it up. The story of Kara and her dad is so sweet. They have a beautiful relationship. Will Wildflower House bring them peace? The descriptions in the book are so real. I could see and smell the wildflowers, I could hear the stream and the bees buzzing. I simply loved this book and can not wait for the next in the series. I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing. All opinions are my own.
This is a beautifully written story about resilience and strength. The story is filled with disappointment, neglect and loss but also filled with love. The author does such a wonderful job with describing the characters and their personalities. I feel like it was a rollercoaster of emotions. I highly recommend this book and I hope that there is a 2nd book on the next chapter in Kara's life and that Seth maybe included.
This is a beautiful book with a heartfelt emotional story.. it captures your attention from the very beginning!
The story flows well which makes it very easy to read! fun and effortless!
There's great character development.. I love the chemistry that flows between them!
The way the author was able to describe all the details.. how the house looks, the surroundings in their world, to what the character is feeling.. is phenomenal! The author builds a connection with her readers and it feels like the reader is in that story without ever leaving home!
I definitely recommend this book!
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. A beautiful and touching story. Kara has had more heartbreak than one person should ever experience. When her Dad buys this old run down house, she never expected to find her healing in that old house. Very enjoyable. Grab your tissues!
This was the first book by this author and I really enjoyed it!, I really loved how Kara is struggling to find peace and quiet amongst struggles in her life! Would highly recommend this book!!
Resilient Heart. This was yet another new-to-me Lake Union Publishing author, and yet again Greene writes a fantastic tale of heartbreak and mending. As a solo story, the book feels complete while leaving the possibility of a follow on open without being overly blatant in actually setting it up - which is appreciated. As the opening tale of a series, as the "Book 1" tag blatantly suggests itself, this book works well in creating a world that I would love to revisit. And as an introduction to Greene and her writing, this book is well crafted and instills a desire to see what else she has to offer, in the best possible sense of the term. Whether you're new to Greene or not, pick this book up and you'll find a worthy friend.
At 14 Kara's mother left, left her, left her husband, left the family. After, six years of marriage, Kara survived a horrendous auto accident, but her husband died. It would seem Kara was always picking up the pieces, pieces of her life. Her life was an emotional struggle, with answers to questions only her father could give her. Then only too suddenly he was also gone. Now Kara had only the old house and gardens her father had recently purchased. In a field surrounded by wildflowers, they were, it seemed there for her to find solace in.
This novel was indeed an emotional one, sad on many levels, yet I did enjoy it. The first book in a series, it left me wanting to know more, to know what the next chapters in her life would be.
My thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wildflower Heart by Grace Green is a book that will tug at your heartstrings and you will not forget it. Grace Green had me hooked from page one. This is a heartbreaking story but in the end will give you the warm fuzzies. This is another one of those can’t put me down type of books. I could not turn the pages quick enough. The main character Kara keeps getting knocked down but like a wildflower she is resilient and gets right back up again. This book has loss and grief but shows you growth strength and resilience. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out. Definite must read book.
Kara Hart has lost her mother and now her husband and unborn child in an accident. She has lost all interest in life, there seems to be no point in going forward. Her father is her one last bastion of comfort, so she accompanies him to Virginia, where he is preparing to restore an old Victorian home. While her stay with her father was supposed to be temporary, Kara finds herself getting closer to her father, as he shared stories about Kara’s mother and his own past. Just when she feels she has gotten her footing, yet another tragedy pulls the rug out from under her again. Kara must decide if she will retreat back inside her shell, or if she has the courage to continue on with the new life she has just started to build. This is a moving novel about seemingly insurmountable loss and the resilience of the human spirit
Thank you Netgalley and Grace Greene for giving me the opportunity to read this wonderful book.
From a young age, Kara struggled with losing her mother, first when she left, and secondly when she died. Her father, Henry, did the best that he could. The pair grew older and has most paths dictate, Kara left for college and then onto marriage. Henry continued living his life, running a successful tire business.
The two are reunited when tragedy strikes again. Kara and her husband, Niles, were in a terrible car accident. Kara lived, Niles didn't, and neither did their unborn child. Henry, of course, stepped up to take care of his daughter and help her heal, both mentally and physically.
Kara is surprised when her father reveals that he is selling the business and the house, and moving to the country. She is even more surprised when she sees the "country house" is far bigger than her father needs. After all, she should be returning to her real life, now that most of her wounds have healed. But, there is something about the "Wildflower House" that soothes Kara's damaged heart...she's not sure that she's ready to leave, and well her father needs her help.
This book is filled with emotion, heartache, grief, healing, and perhaps love. Secrets are revealed, relationships end, and new ones begin... The writing is flowing and you can imagine what it must be like to be at the Wildflower House, and even more so what the Wildflower House could be with a little hard work and imagination.
"Nothing is perfect - not the past, not ourselves and not our present."
Grace Greene has brought her readers a heart wrenching story that is full of despair, hope and recovery. You will feel a gamut of emotions - laughter to tears (I can almost guarantee the tears) but the overall feeling of the novel is healing and resilience.
Kara's life has been filled with loss. Her mother left when she was 14. Her father was a stoic man who worked to take care of her but seldom spent any real time with her. And then after a catastrophic event, she lost even more of her life. As she is recovering, her father decides to buy a dilapidated mansion in the country and she reluctantly decides to move with him to help with the renovations. When she finds the field of wildflowers behind the house, she is stunned and her soul is revived at their beauty. As she tries to find her way back to a new normal with the help of her dad and her best friend, she has new road blocks to overcome. Will she be able to find a way to overcome her fears and find her way to a fulfilling life?
This is a beautiful story with a well written character who is learning to recover from pain and loss and find her place in life. I'd like to read more about Kara in future books.
Thanks to the author for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book, the characters were very real to life and the story
had a little bit of everything so good for a number of readers across genre's.
I like the concept of multiple chances in life we must all continue to move
on and evolve and be the best us we can be and this book gives a sense
of that with the main character Kara. My only disappointment was when
finished I wanted more and want to know what happens next as I still have
questions (I read a book a day so I often want more to a story:) I was very
happy to find out from the Author that there will be at least 1 more book in
this series (I hope more!). I think any one who reads this will enjoy it and
take the journey with Kara and the other cast of characters.
I don't know how Grace Greene does it, but I am a huge fan. How does she take a book so full of grief, sadness, loss trials & tribulations and leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling and totally uplifted ? She has a gift for sure. From page one you are sucked in and will not be able to put it down. It is beautifully written and she describes the scenery so that you can actually picture it. This book will make you cry but it will also make you smile & laugh. I loved every character in this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series. No matter how much praise I give to this book, it will not do it justice. You need to read it for yourself to experience. Highly recommend this book !
