Even one-night stands deserve a second chance in New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken’s novel of sporting desire.

What else can a virgin do when she’s ditched at the altar? Seattle heiress Mackenzie Dupont is treating herself to a single-girl honeymoon in Mexico and a desire to relinquish her innocence to a gorgeous one-night stand. Fake names. True pleasure. But when she wakes up alone, Mackenzie realizes just how much anger is left in her broken heart.

I couldn't get into this book. . I quit about halfway through. I hated Slade with a passion. The way he treated Mac... Nope..

Thanks to netgalley for the arc

I requested this several years ago and I don't think it's a book for me anymore. So I will not be reviewing at this time, but if I do read it, I will update this review. Thank you for the opportunity.

Mack gets left at the altar, which is a really good thing when you get further in the book as her ex - what a *()@&!! She meets Slade, who is also going through a lot in his personal life - and they have one night. But that isn't the end of it - thank goodness. This book had a sassy heroine, alpha hero and lots of wit! Loved Jagger and Matt - hope they get their own books. Really fun read and I look forward to the next one.

Mackenzie is such a likable character although I thought she should be a little more forceful with her father at times she does stand up to Slade. Slade could be a real jerk at times but when he realizes what he is missing out on he finally pulls his head out of his butt and tries to win Mackenzie back. We start off with a both characters in a bad place in their live and we get to see how they connect with each other before they are torn apart again. It was great to see the characters grow and get to know each other. I would definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.

I left a 4 star rating when I read this book 3 years ago but didn't write a formal review. I am marking the rating here to move this book off my shelf.

I’m a big fan of Rachel Van Dkyen because she writes relatable characters that you can’t help but love.
Her storylines even when heavy also make you smile.
She can do no wrong.

Risky play by Rachel Van Dyken
Reviewer: Chelsea
Rating: 4.5 stars!!!

One night stands hardly ever work out, especially when you both give fake names. But what happens when Mackenzie sees her one night stand, Slade, again and now they have to face the reality of their situation.

Slade reacted poorly after his one night stand with Mackenzie, but he never expected to see her again. Now she’s in his life and he can’t help but feel like the spark they had is still present. If only he could stop being such a jerk to her.

I really liked this story! I felt like it was sometimes hard to love Slade as he was such a dick to Mack but I did find that he had some redeeming qualities.

I loved he secondary characters in this story and I can’t wait for more from this amazing new world Rachel Van Dyken has created!!!

I was intrigued by the premise of this story: both trying to escape from reality, vacation fling using fake names. I adored the banter and vibes between them. However, this story just went downhill after their first night together in Mexico. Mackenzie's character was aimless, "the perfect daughter. Perfect student. Perfect fiancee." -- a billionaire heiress, yet she goes to work as a housekeeper. And Slade is an arrogant a-hole; his mistreatment of Mack is completely indefensible ---

The author set up some future installments...hoping things improve.

Risky Play is the first book in the Red Card series and I'm looking forward to reading more books in the series. The prologue as told by Mackenzie sets the stage of what was to come and immediately drew me in. Mackenzie wasn't strong in her beliefs and had low self-esteem. She took things as they came and molded herself to what others wanted. Her fiancee, Alton, was a piece of work and how she never saw him for what he was, floored me. When she sets out on an adventure six months after getting left at the altar, she gets more than she bargains for but it's well deserved. When Mack and Slade meet on the airplane to Mexico there was instant attraction. Neither knew who the other was and they just compounded it by giving fake names! Both have reasons to be known.

There were a lot of twists to the story and Mack and Slade would take one step forward and two or three back throughout. We learned the back story little by little but I got the impression that we should have known some of it before reading it here. There was no love lost between Mack and Slade when they unexpectedly meet up in the States but Slade was often brutal in his remarks. His dog, Alfie, was a cute addition to the story as was the soccer camp. Slade and Jagger have a past plus they are now co-captains on the same professional soccer team. Mack and Jagger know each other through her ex-fiancee. Slade becomes possessive and tries to keep Mack and Jagger apart even if they are only friends. How does that work out? Talk about if looks could kill!

There are family, teammates, soccer drills and practices, lots of food, arguments, anger, between the sheet moments and lots of hot kisses. While Slade's mom was supportive of him and only wanted him to find the right woman, Mack's father was often harsh in his interactions with her. Slade's dad's unexpected death definitely takes a toll on him. Is he able to work it out? There is nice closure with the epilogue and a happily ever after.

Ms. Van Dyken is an author who I've read before but I have so many more of her books to read. I look forward to reading more in this series since Jagger and their agent, Matt, both need their stories told!

Favorite Quote: And then I was suddenly sitting with a complete stranger in a sexy electric-blue Ferrari that roared to life so hard and fast I almost felt sorry that we couldn't just take it out for a few hours. Then again, he was a stranger. Would it be weird to ask for a joy ride? Something told me that's how good girls get kidnapped or end up pregnant, sports cars and guys who look like that.

After getting ditched at the altar Mackenzie decided to screw it and went on her own honeymoon in Mexico. She successfully got rid of her v-card to a handsome guy but unfortunately woke up a lone the next morning. Pro soccer player recently suffered a tragic personal loss. After a night with a beautiful and infuriating stranger he disappeared. What happened when said stranger showed up as his new personal assistant? OOPS Both Mackenzie and Slade have a lot of growing and a lot of soul searching to do before they can find love and happiness with each other. Love the dialogues, the angst, push on pull, sexual tension going on. Slade was a pig head at first but totally redeemed himself. Over all, what an
Awesome one-night stands turn a second chance/ sport romance. Cute, fun, sexy, pure entertaining.

Risky Play is the first book in the Red Card series by Rachel van Dyken. I really like this authors writing style. I really liked the story of Mackenzie and Slade.

I really liked the premise of this; one night stand turned semi-second chance romance. The sparks flew between Mackenzie and Slade yet they fought it, of course. My problem was Slade. He's just purely arrogant and a jerk. He started out sweet then was so full of himself. He blamed Mack for something that wasn't her fault, it wasn't a misunderstanding, she literally had zero to do with what happened. He had horrible things to say to her, I was over it. He completely ruined the book for me. Also, Mack is a billionaire's daughter and doing menial work?? I don't think so

I loved MacKenzie and Slade's relationship. When they meet as strangers in Mexico, they never expect to see each other again, but then when they're both back home in Seattle...It was a great sports romance with complex and well-thought-out characters. I would absolutely read more books in this series. Well written and light-hearted.

Why didn’t I know I needed this book? I did need it. I needed it so much.

One night stand books are my jam guys. I fridges adore the second chance romance you get with them typically and Rachel delivered twists I didn’t see coming with this trope and I was completely for it.

Also, I love the fact that the lead is such a tool. Not intentionally. Well, okay, that’s a lie, it was completely intentional, but completely also not him and I am going to spoil it things so I’m done talking about our alpha ass.

Back to the fact that the banter between these two simultaneously had me swooning and almost peeing my pants laughing. Yep Rachel + Soccer + Rom Com = YES PLEASE.

A steamy romance!

When Mackenzie got stood up at the alter, she decides to take the honeymoon by herself. When the plane has engine trouble on the way there, she panics and the hunk sitting beside her comforts her ... all night long! But when she wakes up in the morning, he's gone without a trace. Slade didn't want to leave the beauty in the bed, but he got a message that his father died and he blamed her for not taking his father's last call. But when this same stranger shows up at his house as his new personal assistant ... he goes ballistic. Even though the sparks still fly between them, Mack & Slade fight each other.

I understand that Mack doesn't want to go back to her job to work alongside the guy that left her at the alter, but she was really rich ... why work at all, just take a break for awhile. Slade was just an arrogant a$$ ... how on earth was it her fault that he didn't answer his phone? The chemistry between Mack and Slade was just burning the pages! My favorite character in the book was Jagger ... I sure hope he gets a book!

After being left at the altar, Mackenzie Dupon more than deserved some me time. Doing it while enjoying a hot fling with a stranger was even better... Soccer player Slade Rodrigues was refreshingly surprised when the beauty sitting next to him in first-class, kissed him senseless. She had no clue who he was, but the stolen kiss lit up a fire inside him that only she could cool. Then tragedy hit and Slade blamed her for it. Mackenzie was surprised to find herself alone in bed the next morning. She had shared the most magnificent night of sex with a complete stranger. She had given him her virginity. And he left her behind without a word. Just like her ex-fiancé. Hurt all over again, Mackenzie decided to extend her time off to her job. If her dad would keep her ex-fiancé at his business, Mackenzie would do something else with her life. Her first assignment, however, took her to the door of the one man she never expected to see again. Slade is trying hard to move on, but the woman that hasn't left his mind is now all over his life. She cooks his meals, walks his dog, does his laundry and even makes sure he has all he needs to do his job. The chemistry between them is still powerful, but they ignore it to the best of their abilities. Until they can't do it anymore. Risky Play is a seductive romance with a smart and independent leading lady and a sexy and irresistible player, who will do whatever it takes to make amends and get the girl in the end...

Mackenzie, a 30 year old wine heiress was set to marry Ashton who've known each other since birth were set to be married but Ashton left her at the altar. Mackenzie bought a honeymoon to Puerto Vallarta as a surprise for Ashton but she took the trip instead of cancelling it. Mackenzie freaks out as the plane loses an engine. She proceeds to kiss her seatmate, Hugo known as Slade Rodriquez who's a soccer player as she gives him the fake name of Ashley (known as Mackenzie Dumont).

This was my first book by Ms. Van Dyken but certainly not my last. I absolutely loved all the characters especially Mack, Slade and Jagger. I need more of them all
