Loved this novel. This novel grabbed me from the very first page to the very last. I loved this novel, the heroine Mack gets left at the altar. But I loved her she is no pushover. I loved the dialogue and banter. Laugh out loud funny. I loved Slade. The chemistry between the two were off the charts. I loved a novel that can make me laugh out loud and leaves me with a smile on my face. This novel did that for me! I loved it and I can't wait to see what this author writes next.
I loved this book! Mackenzie is on the same flight as Slade when an engine goes out. Mack takes matters in her own hands and kisses this stranger. She has been jilted by her fiance and is taking the honeymoon for herself. Slade is taking a break after his ex cheated on him with a fellow soccer player. He is transferring to a team in Seattle. They both give fake names and have a one night stand, when Slade hears that his father has died. Mack decides to take a job before going back to her father's winery. It is Slade's house that she is taking care of. Can they find their way back to each other? This is a must read! 5 stars
An okayish book - it was good till 50% but then became pretty similar to other books :). Liked Mack's character. But TBH, expected more from Rachel Van Dyken!
I love Rachel Van Dyken! Each of her books ard series are so unique. Risky Play is one of her lighter books. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of angst, steam and wonderful characters. But this book is not the kind of thing that happens in real life. It’s the fantasy of what we wish would happen to us in real life.
The heroine, Mackenzie aka Mack, is a wealthy socialite who works for her father’s giagantic wine business. But after being stood up at the alter by the man who she has not only known her whole life but who she also works with she has to get away. Especially because her dad refused to fire the douchbag that mortified her in public.
Meanwhile Slade, a man Mack meets on a plane is having his own troubles. Being a famous, world class athlete, who also needs to get away. They both want to remain anonymous. Not easy for two famous faces.
When Mack and Slade first meet it’s under duress. After the danger has passed they both give the other a fake name. So after one night of bliss one of them disappears. There’s no going back either because neither knows who the other one really is.
But as fate would have it they do meet again. This time under strange circumstances. This is where the story gets really twisted up.
Mack all of a sudden has the attention of 3 men. One is her ex who she never wanted to see again even though he wants her back. Another is her ex’s best friend, who really likes her and doesn’t care what the ex thinks about him going after her. And then there’s Slade. Slade is the only one who acts like he never wants to see Mack again. But with her new job Slade will just have to deal with seeing her everyday.
So who will heal her already shattered heart? Who will give Mack her HEA? I guess you’ll just have to read the book to find out.
This is a stand-alone book with a HEA.
I was given a copy of this book, which I voluntarily read and reviewed.
Slate and Mack.
This is a good story.
Two jaded characters who connect but have trust issues.
No cheating.
Ex drama.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
After the initial meeting, a short separation after that slow burn reconnecting.
Excellent secondary characters.
Some very funny parts but also some really emotional scenes as well.
HEA.
Epilogue.
I devoured this book in one sitting and loved every minute and moment I spent reading it. Risky Play was such a fantastic read with great characters. MacKenzie, Slade, Matt and Jagger are characters you can't help but love and I enjoyed the back and forth banter between all of them. Throw in sports and I'm all in. This read was full of funny, sweet, steamy and all around great moments that will have you laughing out loud more than once. There were touching moments here and there and those were special when they happened. I wished the drama didn't happen with the ex but I knew it was coming, it was all a matter of when and I knew exactly who would be a part of it before it even began. The ending was sweet and wrapped this story up nicely. It definitely left me happy and with a smile on my face. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Rachel Van Dyken does not disappoint when it comes to her stories and she's one author I recommend to my book loving friends.
This book had everything I loved in a sports romance novel. Sexy soccer player, strong, independent female lead, super scorned exes (to mess it up a little), and an adorably cute pooch (just because). Ditched at the alter by her long time partner and best friend, Mackenzie Dupont gets away from the spotlight by going on her honeymoon alone. Enroute the plane loses an engine and she finds herself outwardly panicking and ends up acquainting herself with International soccer star Slade Rodriguez. Whilst spending much needed time away from reality together at the romantic getaway they both lie to each other about their identities. Of course everything goes boobs up when they get back to the real world where it would appear everyone is conspiring against them, even themselves. Funny, sexy, emotional, did I say sexy? A perfect read, completely addictive, I loved the characters and I loved the story. I wouldn’t change a thing. I cannot wait for more in this series. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed Slade and Mackenzie's story. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that she was a virgin. Not really believable at her age after such a long relationship with her fiance. That being said I looked past that and really enjoyed the book.
This book was great from the first page. Mack gets left at the alter, which is a really good thing when you get further in the book as her ex - what a...there are no words! She meets Slade, who is also going through a lot in his personal life - and they have one night. But that isn't the end of it - thank goodness. This book had a sassy h, alpha H and lots of wit! Loved Jagger and Matt - hope they get their own books. Really fun read and I look forward to the next one.
**Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for giving me the ARC in exchange for an honest review** #RiskyPlay #NetGalley
What a wonderful book!!! Risky Play was such a fun and unexpected read!! It was sexy, intense, sweet, romantic and just a wonderful joyride for me!! Love the flirting and chemistry between Slade and Mack!! I really really loved it, I was hooked from the first page, I couldn't put it down!! I definitely look forward to reading more in this series. Absolutely Jagger needs his own book !! Overall it was a truly fantastic read....I highly recommend this story!!
3.5 stars!
This was such a cute story!! I immediately liked our two main characters, Mack and Slade, and was excited to see what would happen to them throughout this book.
I did have a few problems with this novel, though. For one thing, I felt that the big conflict of the story came way too late in the book. It was about 85-90% the way through when the “make or break” scene showed up, and I thought it was kind of a stupid situation as well with Britney coming out of the blue and threatening to mess up Slade’s life completely. I also thought that for a romance novel, there could have been more love/sex scenes, but that’s just me.
I did have an overall really enjoyable experience with this book, and I would like to read more of Van Dyken’s works in the future.
Thanks so much NetGalley and the publisher for sending this to me in exchange for an honest review!
great start to this new series!
I dont usually read sports romances, but when I do, I always seem to enjoy them. This one was without a doubt amazing. I loved the characters and plot.
I cannot wait to read more!
Such a refreshing, fun, romantic read. Sometimes you just need a book that makes you feel good and believe in love- and this fun adventure is absolutely that. At times witty and humorous, at times more serious, this book had me hooked from page one. Watching Mackenzie and Slade fall for each other and learn to trust as they overcame past relationships and life strife was at times sweet, at times frustrating (in a fantastic way) and all of the time swoon worthy. I loved this book and had such a fun time reading it. I can't wait for more from Van Dyken!
Oh my gosh! This book has it all! It made me laugh out loud (seriously, don't try to read it in a public place....!), made me cry and swoon and angry and....did I mention that it made me swoon? And I might have cheered Slade on once in a while, like, let's say - when he ...discussed... something with Mack's ex for example.
Slade and Mack are so amazing together! Never perfect, but perfectly imperfect and simply amazing. Their chemistry is off the charts and I just love the bumpy road that leads them to each other. It's not easy when you live in the spotlight and when both partners have been hurt before. Despite that, they manage to overcome every (and everyone) standing in their way, separating them. When worst comes to worst, they jump together as true partners should.
"Risky Play" is once again a wonderful story, beautifully written and with amazing characters, that'll draw you in from the first páge on and won't let you go till you 've read the very last word.
I really loved this book and can't wait, once again, for the next book by this amazing, talented author!
**4.5 Stars**
This story was 100% entertaining. I could not put it down. It evoked just about every kind of emotion out of me. It was sad, funny, thoughtful, sexy, angsty, and just overalp engaging. It had a wild fling/ enemies to lovers/ second chances vibe, and definitely a happily ever after. It was also chock full of some serious drama.
I enjoyed both Mack and Slade as the main characters. They both seemed realistic and I thought they had great chemistry. Slade was a bit of a jerk, but also seriously alpha hot. I am intrigued by some of the other characters in the book and wonder if Jagger will have his own book in the series. I definitely look forward to reading more in this series.
Risky Play is a great start to this new series by Rachel Van Dyken. She has begun an adventure in the world of soccer and could not be more excited about it. Slade and Mackenzie are a match made in heaven and fill the pages with amazing sarcasm as the both are grieving and trying to find themselves after huge life altering events. Sports and romance are paired perfectly and will be enjoyed through the last page.
Two people find themselves on a plane with engine failure. 6 months ago, Mackenzie was left at the alter, without much explanation. Slade is still mending after his fiancee gets knocked up by his best friend. So, when the oxygen masks drop in the plan and Slade asks Mack "What one thing do you regret?" she kisses him. This begins the dramatic, and quite hilarious, romance of Mack and Slade. Slade is a professional soccer player, with a chip on his shoulder, and Mack is a wine taster/debutante with a mouth that could make a sailor blush and wit faster than an F1 racecar. They are a brilliant couple- and there's plenty of dramedy to keep your interest.
The only negative things I have to say about this book is that sometimes the dialogue seems a bit juvenile, like when Slade and Jagger are bantering back and forth, they never miss a "ball" joke. And, sometimes I got annoyed with how Mack allowed Slade to treat her. I understood why he was a douchebag, but sometimes it was over the top and she would just run back to him like a puppy. I would have kicked him in his damn balls!
Overall, I would give this book a solid 3 stars. It kept me entertained and I finished it rather quickly.
Great book! This is Mackenzie and Slade book, Mack is a Seattle heiress who was ditched at the alter from her jerk of a boyfriend she treats herself to a single girl honeymoon to Mexico shade is a pro soccer player suffering his own personal loss, they meet in the airplane and when the airplane looses a engine and Mack fears for her life she kisses Slade! They both make it out ok and think they'll never see each other again! Well surprise surprise Mack ends up being his personal assistant! This book was funny, sad, hot, and low drama! But a great little story!! I highly recommend this book! Definitely don't miss out on this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
