I've always liked creative prompts and love writing (it was my major in college and has been how I've made my living most of my life), but I requested a review copy of this book to help inspire two of my kids who are somewhat reluctant writers. I'm sorry to say that I don't think this book is really going to change that.

The book is all in teal and white, and has prompts like to trace your hands and then write inside the shape everything you touch that day, to look up wacky words or invent your own, or to wait and fill another page with words only when you're really angry, or to write slogans about kindness and then put them up all over. Shrug. This might be fun for some kids, but didn't really inspire mine.

I'd call this a collection of journal prompts more than real creative writing ideas. The focus is on reflection and general creativity. Decent for middle graders.

52 different prompts for budding young writers. Everything from simply going outside, to going tech free, a visit to the library, or writing and sharing kind thoughts; this book gave tons of fun ideas for kids to just write, AND it gives a blank page for each prompt. I’d love to use this in my classroom and share it with other teachers and students who want to write, but sometimes get stuck on WHAT to write. Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC.

As an elementary teacher, one of the top comments I get from parents is, “My kids never know what to write in their home journal.” For that very reason, I love books like this one! It is full of a variety of ideas to get kids’ writing juices flowing. Some pages are great for kids who are “doers,” while others lend themselves more to introspective children. The variety of topics will encourage many kids to get outside their comfort zone a little and approach writing in different ways. Good for elementary & even middle school students.

A great book for young writers. I especially enjoyed the fact that it's a collection of different pieces and tasks, not necessarily a progression. The fact that some of the tasks were about creating, then "setting free" the words, and not necessarily about keeping the writing was powerful. Creation for the sake of creation, not permanence is a neat experiment for young writers.

I’ve always been somewhat fascinated with these sort of books, though I could never truly justify buying one for myself. They just seemed...like a waste of money? And to be completely frank, I still feel like some of the pointless ones truly were. I mean, honestly...what exactly is the point of drawing a picture and then shredding it to pieces? And yet, they still intrigued me. I was still tempted to purchase one for myself.

But, alas, I never did. My sister, I think, got one once. Which, I suppose, is ironic enough as she has never been quite the book enthusiast nor the writer that I am.

Rip All the Pages was similar to the others; though not quite as fun, it was certainly less pointless. While some of the writing prompts were, in my opinion, stupid and ridiculous, others actually had some merit insofar that they would develop creative minds to write and enjoy doing it. I think, for a young writer, this is a fun book to get them as a gift. They’ll enjoy it.

For anyone older, though, I’d definitely suggest perusing the book before buying. It’s interesting, but nothing amazing as far as I’m concerned. I was also quite annoyed with the fact that there aren’t really any lines on the pages where we’ve been instructed to write and frankly, as a writer, I find that monumentally irritating. I wouldn’t want to write on a completely blank surface as that is basically just a recipe for crooked words.

Good, bad, I think a lot of people will probably enjoy this one.

I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Awesome book for kids! I have similar ones (Wreck This Journal!) for myself! I think they are very creative idea books kids will enjoy. I'll be buying a few for the holidays for kids in my life. Just remind kids in libraries not to tear or draw, etc... in the book. This book really is a one owner deal.
