This book embodies what the 1797 Club is about – love and compassion. What a great way to end the series. Kit is the reserved duke in the group and his story will bring you to tears in a good way. I loved that he loved and respected his father (not much you read about in historicals). His history with Sarah was tempestuous but their moving towards each other through their shared losses was a beautiful story. Another fabulous story from Ms. Michaels’.

This is a really good enemies to lovers story. As they say there’s a fine line between love and hate.
Sarah Carlton once moved amongst the ton, now after losing everything she’s the nanny for the dying Earl of Idlewood youngest child, Phoebe. She may of lost everything but she will make the most of what she has.
Christopher “Kit” Collins questioned his father for hiring Sarah. He’s not liked her since he caught her being rude to his friends finance. Kit made it quite clear that he does not like Sarah but Phoebe adores her and with his father on his deathbed he made it known that Sarah will be needed when he’s gone.
Sarah has had feelings for Kit but knows he hates her. She’s a very strong woman, she knows what it means to loose someone and she’s not afraid to step up to help Kit through his grief.
Kit doesn’t understand why he always is thinking of Sarah. He’s starts to see her in another light and he’s beginning to rely on she more and more, but when her life is in danger can he live with out her?
I’m very sad to see this series end, It has such great characters and story lines.

This is the last book in the 1797 Club series and let me say that I loved each and every Duke and Duchess we met along the way. This story is about the Youngest member of the club ,Kit, and one we’ve met briefly along the way. The heroine is Sarah and she too was introduced to us in a few other stories in the series. I love Kit and he may be one of my favorite heroes.! His road to a HEA is full of highs and lows. Losing his beloved father, raising his 5 year old half sister, falling for the governess who he thought he disliked. When she risks her life twice to save his sister, he can no longer deny his feelings.. I received this book from netgalley for review, but I also preordered it and have purchased all in the series. This book and the other 9 are all wonderful!

The last of the duke to become one has a good story for him, and I seemed to remember Sarah from Meg's book, so in the end all is well what ends well and I will miss this series and its dukes. I am not sure I will keep on reading more books of Jess Michaels for a while because she is way too fast for me also....

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

I'm so sad this series is over, but it goes out on such a high note! Prepare yourselves for tears as Kit's father finally dies. Kit is left to care for his 5 year old sister and her governess is Sarah, former society girl we have met in previous books. Unable to make a good match, she is now in service because her parents died and left her destitute.

All the dukes are there as they mourn the former duke. The romance is awesome and this story weaves all the relationships together seamlessly and there's some danger thrown in at well.

Highly recommend the whole series, and it's hard to choose a favorite, but this book may be it.

The Last Duke, 1797 Club,  Jess Michaels

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Historical Fiction, Romance

I'm an eclectic reader, and sometimes I lie to dip back to gentler times – well, real life wasn't gentler but historical romance tends to be. I was really hoping I'd Like this story because Jess has written so many novels and I'd not read any of them. There's nothing like the discovery of a new-to-you author who has loads of novels you can then devour. Sadly though this was an easy read, it wasn't one that gripped me.
The characters are pleasant, the storyline pretty simple, lady goes down in station when fortunes fall, becomes governess and falls in love with a duke. I liked meeting the other dukes and duchesses, and maybe if I';d read their stories I'd have got more from this. Maybe...
I tend to want a bit more drama and angst, even in historical reads, more tension and problems that I can't see how to work out. This was just a well written, simple, easy tale full of gentle problems, a developing romance and a sweet ending. I could see from the start how it was going to end and while I don't mind that – after all I constantly re-read favourites while knowing exactly what will happen – in this instance I just felt it was all too light and cute for me.
As always though the reminder, what I like and what you like aren't necessarily the same. What doesn't work for me about this story could be just what makes it perfect for you. I've devoured many novels others have rated one and two stars because they hate what I love. Horses for courses and all that.

Stars:Three, A well written story but one that just doesn't excite me.

💋💋
The final book in this , one of the best series I’ve read .
And it’s Kit’s turn in the limelight.
The book begins in such a heartbreaking way , your going to need a BIG box of tissues for this one .
Kit needs to pull himself together , he has his friends, the Dukes Club , all around him , but he’s struggling to cope with his responsibilities.
Sarah as far as she knows is not liked by Kit , after her fall from grace and her reduced circumstances following her fathers problems and the death of her mother , the old Duke gives her a position as Governess to Kit’s little sister .
Sparks start to fly all over the place , some of them burn pretty brightly too .
They both have lost someone they love , depend upon .
Now they need to find their ways again , both require, understanding, patience and above all Love .
But first they need to communicate.
Stunning final book by Jess Michaels, I’ve looked forward to Kit’s story and this didn’t disappoint me , going from tears to heated in the space of a chapter , no one writes them like this lady .
Totally brilliant .
I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
We meet the last duke of the 1797 Club, Christopher “Kit” Collins. Kit has just become the duke after his father dies. He is surrounded by the members of the 1797 club and their wives. He becomes responsible for his half-sister, Phoebe. Kit fears he will not be as good of a duke as his father. However, the old duke's final words is something Kit does not quite understand yet. Miss Sarah Carlton used to be a member of society, but after the death of her mother, she knew she needed to support herself. The old duke gave Sarah a job as Phoebe's governess. Sarah believes Kit will fire her due to their past history. Kit sees how much Sarah and Phoebe care for each other and believes she can help with his sister. They still walk on eggshells when they encounter each other until a near tragic accident changes everything between them. They can no longer hide the attraction they have for one another or explain the passion that develops between them. Sarah knows Kit can never marry her since she is only a governess. When Kit finally decides what to do about Sarah, a face from the past resurfaces to cause trouble. Can they stop this new threat to have the family they all desire?
