A useful guide to incorporate more meditation and yoga into your life. Very helpful and well written.
I wasn’t able to finish this book. Because of this, it is my policy not to review the book on my site or on Goodreads/Amazon. I also didn’t mark it DNF.
I have enjoyed both yoga and meditation for years but I really liked how this book showed me how to combine them and be more mindful during my yoga practice. I liked that the book provided multiple routines of various lengths. I also like that it introduced me to chakras.
A great yoga/meditation book suitable for beginners looking to further their practise and even more advanced yogis.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. The books is broken up to eight different parts. I have been trying to find ways to bring my calm back. I get a lot of migraines and it usually happens when I am stressed or worried about something. I requested this book to see if it could help me with my stress. I found that this helps breathe and focus on myself. That is not something a do a lot of. It gave me a chance to focus on myself and that makes me feel much better about myself. I can cope with the pain and lack of energy for this helps me built it up natural.
Free digital copy via netgalley. A very nice book with good inspiration for everyday meditation. Digital copy could be optimised. Unfortunately not available as a hard copy in Germany as I would have liked to keep on reading even after the digital copy had expired.
This is the perfect book for combining yoga with meditation and improving or deepening your own connection or practice of either. I loved this book and the way it helps the reader make the connection and use these meditations/poses every day.
A really instructive and thorough book, I would recommend it to anyone willing to learn more about yoga, the spiritual and energetic beliefs behind it, to learn the names of the asanas, among other things.
Bonus points: In many asanas, there is a caution note for people who shouldn't try to do it if they suffer from certain conditions.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This is a wonderful introductory guide to meditation. I have read this book and reviewed it many times already, it is a wonderful guide to everyday practice. I will definitely be buying this guide book to have in my yoga room for further exploration. Although not a novice at yoga, meditation to me is somewhat new and I learned so much from this book. It will definitely help me further my practice and find my inner me.
A book I will be referring to again and again and will be a great part of my practice.
A good detailed text on the theory of yoga meditation. Having practiced yoga for a couple of years (albeit sporadically) I knew the basics but this helped telling of the theory behind it and the meditation process. Pictures and descriptions were very helpful. Would probably be better as a physical text as the ebook formatting was not great.
This is the perfect book for yoga enthusiasts of all abilities. It goes into great deal as to the positions and what they mean as well as the meditations.
This book was hard to follow. While it had some practical information, most of it seemed scattered and did not flow well.
This is a great book for a beginner. The book has tips for every aspect of yoga: breathing, meditation, and yoga poses. It is easy to follow and there are great illustrations of how each pose should look. This book can be finished in one sitting but can also be used to refer back to different tips and poses along your yoga journey.
I voluntarily agreed to read a copy of this book supplied by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.
This is a very informative Yoga book, there is a lot of information for anyone wanting to learn more than just the poses. I'll probably use this as more of a guide to go over as I further my yoga practices, as it was too much information to process in one reading for me (I'm a beginner).
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book. My opinion is my own.
I have been using meditation for decades and am always open to learning new methods . This was a very comprehensive review of the methods of meditation. .I did learn some new information and found this book very helpful to my personal meditation journey. I highly recommend this book for both new students to meditation and experienced students as myself.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Watkins Publishing and Stephen Sturgess for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.
This is a comprehensive guide to yoga poses, yoga breathing and anything else you would need to complete your yoga practice. Really incredible!! It comes complete with descriptions and illustrations for everything that it discusses. The focus is on Raja Yoga or the yoga of meditation. We get a little theory that is relevant and makes the connection as to why it is important to make this part of every day. Once you understand the philosophy of the importance of quieting your mind and looking inside, the yoga poses make more sense and take on a higher purpose. He covers everything from the eight limbs, chakras, asanas, pranayama, and so much more. There is whole chapter on how to sit! He talks about the positioning of your hands (and other body parts), how to warm up and breaks down the sun salutation. There a couple of sequences that he lays out as well as a cool down. He also gives you the tools and recipes of how to create complete routines on your own. There is also chapters on meditation, chanting and so much more. What I found unique in his book, was the complete explanation of breathing techniques. Having taken yoga for a number of years now, I was a little confused about a certain technique and honestly, his explanation really cleared it up for me. Overall, I understood so much more about my practice and what my teachers have been doing all this time! This is something I will read again and keep on hand. The illustrations are clear and informative. Again, if you are a newbie, you must get into a class or find a teacher, because you can’t just learn yoga from a book. But it sure does help to have it explained in clear diagrams and easy to understand language. I appreciate that you can take what you have learned and put it into practice and build on it all on your own. Really great read, I learned so much.
Stephen Sturgess is a London-based yoga and meditation teacher and author of books on related topics. Everyday Yoga Meditation is a superb instruction manual for those who wish to begin meditation and require an easy to follow guide. Written in an easy, conversational style with short, easily digestible chapters it not only directs you on where to start, but it also has a lot of excellent information on the history and background of meditative practices. It manages the fine balancing act of providing enough information to engage readers but not enough to overwhelm. This is a book primarily written for beginners with clear, sound explanations and descriptions and is the ideal guide for those new to yoga and meditation.
What's particularly great about it is that it is so, so comprehensive, but the style and structure in which it is written means it can be dipped in and out of at will. It brings together all the information you could ever need to know on the topic and combines it all into a single book. There are also some very useful pictures for those who find it simpler to learn from visuals. It includes information on the history of yoga, the methodologies and the benefits it can bring to those who use it. There are many similar books to this on the market, but I feel that the orderly fashion in which it is set out and the beautiful illustrations and solid information makes this one of the best. Overall, this is an approachable and user-friendly compendium that will be helpful to novices right through to dedicated yogis. An indispensable resource you will return to again and again.
Many thanks to Watkins Publishing for an ARC.
This book is fabulous for those who wish to deep-dive into the tenets of yoga, and the author shows a tremendous amount of expertise in the study of it. It's a cross between a thesis and an at-home inspiring manual, and I believe my readership prefers lighter, fluffier fare for their yoga practices. So rather than weigh this title's reviews down with a star-count that doesn't serve the book's purpose, simply because the content doesn't match my expectations fully for my audience, I'll step back and simply thank you for the chance to read this material. I wish the author well with it!
I recently wanted to learn more about meditation and this was a very good starting point! It is very detailed if someone is wanting to know more about meditation. I will definitely use this in the future and would recommend to others.
I loved the simplicity of this book. It was very concise and straight to the point. The pictures add to the ease of reading the book. I enjoyed going through this book but as I was reading it seemed to take on the flow of every other yoga book I've read with the position poses and description. I was disappointed there wasn't something that set it apart from all other books in the same category. That being said this is a good and informative read.
