While this book is very informative, the conclusions and presuppositions the authors draw out or hold to are very flawed and unbiblical.
a few examples will suffice. 1. The authors make no differentiation between the medium of text and the medium of the image. God's word is the written word, not the video word. I don't see any reason to think that this is incidental since God is a God of order and he plans things out for the best. They claim that since the bible mentions irreverent acts therefore it is all right to go watch them on the screen and even commendable. This is simply foolish and the logic doesn't follow. On top of this is the fact that scripture doesn't go into great detail when talking about such acts.
2. The authors seem to hold to the pragmatic belief that if the means are used to try to portray a good theme then it justifies the means, therefore we should interact with movies showing sex scenes and occult practices so long as eventually the movie denounces them. This is simply unbiblical. Even the pagans knew this was a stupid practice to live by. As Socrates said, be careful about what you feed your mind, as you can not spit it out once you taste it. What we intake through the eyes ends up forming us. One of the authors who claims that he is not affected by watching movies in the horror genre is either lying to justify his desires or he doesn't realize how he is affected.
3. Another example of false ideology that this book pushes is the idea that the only way to be able to converse about something in a meaningful way is to be shocked by an experience of it. The conclusion that can be drawn, therefore you cant really talk about rape unless you go watch a movie depicting it in a graphic manner, etc.
These authors are driven by their love for movies and not by God and his word. Reading this book I do not see people who are in love with God but rather who have movies at the center of their lives and try to restructure everything around that.
As someone once said, what's the difference between you watching sex on screen and someone watching his neighbor having sex through the window of his house? The difference is that you're paying for it.
I could mention numerous examples of films that did not use graphic content and they sparked conversations that are meaningful, so the idea that movies that do use those means should be commended in any way does not show someone who is seeking to build people up.
To finalize this review, God's spirit works through his word, that is the one tool that is guaranteed by god to produce the fruit of sanctification. All of our lives must be governed by the principles in the word, and it seems to me that the authors do a very superficial job of interacting with the few texts that they do mention in this book.
