This book was a little hard to get into. I really disliked almost all the characters except for the main one. Once I was in the second half of the book it really took off. The romance was cute, Fixie started growing as a person and I enjoyed seeing her finally take a stand for herself! If only I had enjoyed the first half more - I almost gave up. Glad I stuck with it!
I am an avid Sophie Kinsella reader and this book, like many of her other one-offs, was a book brimming with heart and soul. I loved this story. The recurring theme of the coffee sleeve favour tally was brilliant and it showed how, in relationships, inside jokes can get tired or prove to be a source of frustration when one person is always making light of a situation when the other wants to be taken seriously. I loved it. Thank you, Net Galley!
She has two siblings Jake and Nicole. The family all works at the store.she is twenty seven years old nown. Her nickname is fixie because she has to fix every little thing
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved I Owe You One, loved loved loved it! Fixie is all about her family. Family is number one in her book, especially since her father passed away. Everything seems to be going normal in her life until her lifelong crush Ryan comes back into her life. Ryan is best friends with Fixie's brother Jack. Oh Jack. That boy has issues. Then again Ryan has issues too. Well Fixie is fixated on Ryan when she meets Sebastian. Sebastian is well, pretty great. Fixie learns the dark secrets about her family. Falls in love, out of love, in love, out of love...well you get the picture with the two men in her life. Such a fun book about family and romance. I really enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this story. It was different and I found myself really involved in the storyline. It was sweet and fun and I laughed out loud at times, I adore Sophie Kinsella's writing and I can't wait for more from her
I just realized that the only Sophie Kinsella book I read before this is My Not So Perfect Life. I think I always have the intention of reading at least the first in the Shopaholic series, but then never get around to it. Nevertheless, as soon as I saw this on NetGalley I wanted to read it. Partially because my one experience with this author was a good one, but mainly because . . . . . I have a massive girl crush on Isla Fisher and I want to cast her in the lead of every one of this author’s books. And guess what? She’d be perfect for this role too.
The story here is about “Fixie” – daughter, sister, employee extraordinaire, Fixie has spent her life being the “fixer” of other’s problems and always living by the motto “Family First.” Unfortunately for me, Fixie’s personality traits made me want to have an intervention about how not to be a doormat.
I could never get on the same page (no pun intended) with poor Fixie. From her childhood crush, to her worthless siblings, this girl was taken advantage of again and again and I just wanted to bash my head into the closest wall.
This was a miss for me, but only due to my own irritation. I’ll definitely still pick up whatever she releases next.

This was a really fun read. While it's a little formulaic, Kinsella's formula works!! I would definitely recommend this to friends. Especially those who are looking for the perfect way to escape reality for a little while and fall into someone else's chaos.
This was a cute read. I enjoy Sophie Kinsella’s books. The story was pretty relatable. Sweet read.
I found that I struggled a bit to connect to Fixie. I liked her in the beginning. But as the story progressed, her personality started to gradually annoy me. She was a bit of a doormat. She constantly allowed people to walk all over her and by people, I mean mainly her brother and sister. They pretty much treat her like she is an idiot.
There were several occasions where Fixie had the opportunity to speak up and put someone in their place, however she just couldn’t go through with it. Even though Fixie may know how to argue with someone in her head, when it comes to reality she shrinks, she stammers, and she basically just lets the offending party get away with whatever they were doing.
It took me a couple of tries, but once I kept reading and got halfway through the story, things started to pick up and improve for Fixie and the people around her. Her character grew and she developed more of a backbone. Overall, I thought Fixie was an okay character. She’s smart, determined, and capable. I loved how sweet and caring she was to everyone she met. Of course I can’t forget to mention the romance! Fixie and Sebastian have really good chemistry. From the moment they met in the coffee shop, I was anxious to see their romance unfold. The ending did not disappoint.
Though I Owe You One wasn’t my favorite book by Sophie Kinsella, I did enjoy the author’s writing style and thought this was a cute romance. Her Shopaholic series still manages to be one of my favorites!
RATING: 3 out of 5.
This is a classic Sophie Kinsella romance -- an endearing heroine, a professional challenge, and a love interest you root can't help but root for.
Sophie Kinsella has been writing books for years, but I Owe You One is the first I have picked up. My first impression wasn't very positive. Fixie immediately had me feeling some emotions I didn't enjoy. She was high sting and wound tight. The tension inside of her transferred to me. I thought, "Oh no." I was worried I was going to struggle through the book feeling on edge and uncomfortable. That was just an initial reaction. As I continued to read past the first chapter, Fixie grew on me. Once I understood the reasons behind her disposition, I could relax and roll with her personality. I began to truly enjoy the story.
Fixie was a doormat. There was no one she stood up to. I wanted to smack her when it came to Ryan, Jake, and Nicole. Fixie gave and gave and gave. The happiness of those around her mattered more than her own. It was easy to identify with that. I think we have probably all been there at some point in our lives. I know I have. I Owe You One was really about Fixie coming into her own and learning how to say what needed to be said and do what needed to be done. I loved the evolution she went through. I am happy to say that I ended up loving her character way more than I expected to in the beginning.
The other characters in this story were perfect. Ryan was hideous and irredeemable. Jake was completely frustrating in his antics. Nicole...Oh my goodness. The way her sentences trailed off was hilarious. Her helplessness combined with her getting in touch with her personal happiness was over the top fun. I loved Fixie's mom. She was so supportive and loving.
And then there was Seb. Seb was this great surprise. His IOU to Fixie added a cool layer to the story. It made all sorts of things happen. Seb helped Fixie grow in some of the best ways. I wish I would have gotten more of him.
I Owe You One was a delightful story. I ended up truly loving it. I am so happy that I didn't give up reading it after my initial assessment of Fixie. She grew on me in the best of ways. Her story was so important and a good reminder to always be true to yourself.

Let me preface with saying I adore the books I’ve read thus far by Sophie Kinsella. Which is why I was looking forward to this book! However I have to say this is my least favorite by far of hers that I have read. I couldn’t connect with Fixie at all. Also that is a horrible name lol I appreciated the family trying to keep things together for her father in the wake of his passing. Beyond that I felt this was missing the sustenance I usually find in her books. They’re all fun light reads but generally I find a character I like. This I felt I had to push through. Still would definitely read more from Kinsella!
Sophie Kinsella books are a treat for me. I save them for when I need something fun to read while getting away from everyday humdrum. She always gives me what I need. This book centers around family interactions that most of us will find familiar. One cousin/ brother/ sister pulls a much larger load than the others while everyone reaps the same rewards. In true Kinsella fashion, the story comes to a head when the family drama gets to be too much for our heroine and she considers a life of her own. How the battles shake out in the end is an enjoyable journey.
I have loved a few of this author's past books. I wanted to like this one much more than I did. The introduction did not grab me and I felt like I was reading about a character from another of her books again.
I adore Sophie Kinsella. In fact, it was her book, Can You Keep a Secret? that got me reading again. Unfortunately the last couple of her books have not been for me.
The premise of I Owe You One had me intrigued, but the delivery failed. For a start, I did not connect with the characters at all. Fixie’s name did not work for me and she constantly let everyone walk all over her. Her siblings were very annoying and I did not like Ryan at all. I suspected him of ill will. All of the characters had issues of some kind, and the combination just did not work.
Yes, the scene where the ‘certain disaster’ where Fixie saves the laptop is hilarious and left a lot of promise for the novel. This scene is classic Kinsella. Despite I Owe You One not being for me, I will continue to read Kinsella novels, I just may need to stick to her older novels. I think I might need to give Can You Keep a Secret a re-read this year.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me a copy to read and review. I wish I could have given it a favorable review.
2.5 stars rounded to 3
Thank you netgalley for this arc
I have to say this is my least favourate book from this author, that and surprise me. It is a typical Kinsella book, easy to read and lighthearted. The first half of the book is like she is setting the scene and then it culminates ... very slowly. It did not find that it had strong emotion or character.
I will read all her books but they seem to have not as good as her first ones
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
A light, sweet chick lit. I love Kinsella’s books. Her English humor is always charming. From the very beginning I felt a kinship to Fixie. If it isn’t done correctly, I have to do it myself. There were several times when her family truly gave me anxiety for their lack of care.
A good light and fun read, as all Kinsella's book. Really enjoyed. Loved the main character.
Thank you for this ARC.
I OWE YOU ONE is definitely more of a serious read than Kinsella's typical style, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The characters are so well developed, which is something I always appreciate in a novel. Fixie is such an endearing character and I miss her already! While predictable, but cute, I OWE YOU ONE has a very fluid pace and caught my attention immediately. The book never felt slow and I never found myself needing to skim. Loved Sophie Kinsella's newest novel, looking forward to her next one!
Whether you're a longtime Kinsella fan or a new reader, this humorous and relatable book is sure to appeal. This delightful story combines romance and family drama to deliver a life lesson we could all stand to be reminded of: the importance of speaking up for yourself and taking control of your own life.
