This book was just okay to me. Silly romance. My major problem was the side narration where the author told you exactly what each character was actually thinking. Not a big fan of this type of writing. I would rather infer from the author's descriptions. Decent romance and smoky love scenes, the story just did not hold my interest and I had to make myself finish the book.
Katie's Highlander
Highland Protector #3
By Maeve Greyson
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ramsay MacDara wishes the goddesses had left him back in the tenth century. This way he never would have fallen in love with the woman who only wanted his family's money and made an utter fool of him. He is a loner at heart and more at home with the 4 legged beasts then he is with any human. One night he is riding in the woods whe he hears the sound of tires screeching, followed by a loud thud so ofcourse he rushes at the chance to help. That's when he can not believe what he's seeing a pair of perfect long legs sticking out of the moon roof of a mangled car. He then helps her and takes her home for the night even though he isn't all that happy about it.
Katie Jenson is an Archaeologist on a six month sabbatical from her job at Princeton University as she has just lost her Father. She is headed to a friends beach house in North Carolina in a bid to follow her father's dying request to live life to it's fullest. Now a momentary distraction takes her off of the road and on the journey of her life with a sex God in a kilt by her side. Ramseys passion is the stuff of legend and it just may be Katie's greatest discovery yet.
Maeve Greyson takes you on a journey of finding love in the most mysterious way. At first Katie is attracted to Ramsey however he gives her mixed feelings, but as the story goes on things do heat up. He also has the strangest family which I have come to really like. Ms. Greyson is a talented author and I would love to read more from her including the first two books.
This can be read as a standalone as there is an explanation that explains the family history.
I hadn't read any other books from this author before - but I enjoyed this one enough to make me look for others. This is part of a series but is an entirely stand alone book. Fun story line - if you like Janet Chapman's highlander stories - you'll like this!
This was such a sweet time travel romance! The goddesses throw Katie in Ramsay’s path and it was so cute! Ramsay isn’t so sure about a new relationship but his destiny says otherwise. They had great chemistry even though they bumped heads! I loved Katie but I hated when she was upset with Ramsay because she decided not to listen to advice given to them in the first place 😩. I loved how confident and lovable Ramsay was once he was comfortable!
I enjoyed the story and thought it flowed well and I’m now interested in reading the first two books!

I really love this Highlander series. Katie & Ramsay were fun to get to know. I love the time travel between present day & tenth century Scotland. I really hope the next book is about the sister. Highly recommend reading this book!
Katie's Highlander by Maeve Greyson is book Three in the Highlander Protector Series. This is the story of Katie Jenson and Ramsay MacDara. I have read the previous books (Loved Them) but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do this.
Katie is a Archaeologist who just lost her father a few months ago. On break she is traveling through
North Carolina where she ends up getting into a accident. Ramsay happens to find her and takes her back to his family home. Ramsay isn't trusting of love or his feelings since he was scorned by a women. So he tries to fight his growing feelings but the goddesses and his family isn't allowing that. Katie finds Ramsay attractive but he gives mix feelings back not to mention his strange family.
Loved this book and the series!
So I started it and though, oh no a contemporary story...not for me...but then I kept going and bam, I got hooked. Ramsey is really a wonderful hero. Strong, romantic, sexy...and possessive! It took a while for me to warm up to Katie...she's a bit of a b____. In fact, it wasnt till late in the story I finally saw a heart in her.
The story is wonderful, and I hope we have more in this series.
Because I have to have all the background,, I read the two preceding books. The first was pretty good. The second was a mirror image of the first so I didn't hold out much hope for the third. I was pleasantly surprised to find a whole new story.! I'd
love to read a follow up to this storyline. I hope there is more showing what happens to Ross and Esme and allowing Ramsay and Katie to travel forward to keep up with the rest of the family's activities. I love the really strong characterization of all the protectors and the strong women who were picked to accompany them on their journey through life.
This book was gifted to me by the author and publisher in return for an honest review.
This was an ok book. I am not a big fan of time travel so I had a hard time getting into this book.
Katie’s Highlander by Maeve Greyson is the third book in her Highland Protector series. The novel is a historical romance with a twist. Though this is the third in a series, and I have not read the previous two novels, the author has done an excellent job in making it a standalone.
The MacDara’s are a Druid clan and have always been chosen as protectors of the goddesses, Danu, Scota and Bride. The family has been transported through time from medieval Scotland to present-day North Carolina, but are transported back in time whenever the goddesses deem that their services are needed to protect them and an ancient relic known as the Heartstone. There are four MacDara sons. Alec (Sadie’s Highlander), Grant (Joanna’s Highlander), Ramsay whose romantic tale is told here in Katie’s Highlander and youngest son Ross, whose story I assume will be told in the next installment of the series.
Katie Jenson, archaeologist and professor at Princeton University, crashes her car in scenic Brady, North Carolina and is rescued from her folly by Ramsay MacDara, Highland warrior born in 884 AD and keeper of the sacred spear. The two personalities clash, but love blossoms when the couple is transported back in time to tenth century Scotland. I was taken with both handsome, kilted Ramsay and Katie, whose internal commentary kept me laughing. The story takes some interesting twists, and the plot held my attention the entire time. I loved the ending so much that I actually cried.
I have read many time-travel romance novels, and Katie’s Highlander is certainly among the best. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I plan to read the previous two novels in the series, which I immediately purchased upon completion of this one, and eagerly await the next. I recommend this book to lovers of historical romance and fans of time-travel. If you abhor well-written fiction, this is certainly not the book for you.
My thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Ramsay McDara wishes he could be sent back to the tenth century in order to forget the disastrous relationship he just experienced in the present. Archaeologist Katie Jenson is on a six month vacation in North Carolina when her car gets stuck in a ditch. Ramsay sees the car and offers his assistance. When they set eyes on one another, their lives are linked… and changed forever.
This was a great historical romance with enough heat and suspense to keep the pages turning. I loved the main characters and how they grew in their love for one another. I loved the way the author used the time change in this story to show the growth of science and medicine. I can’t wait to read the next story. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.
Katie's Highlander is the third book in the Highland Protector series but can be read as a stand alone. The novel pulls you into a modern day romance between an american archeologist and a highlander from another time. Maeve Greyson weaves a tale of romance and history that will draw you in from the first chapter and leave you begging for more at the end. This is a must read for historical/supernatural romance lovers.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. Katie is on a six-month sabbatical from her job and on her way to a friend's beach house when she has a car accident. Ramsay is riding his horse through the woods near his family’s North Carolina theme park when he finds Katie stuck in her car. Unexpected adventures follow and they have to join forces to make it through. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading others by this author.
This was the first of the series that I read, and I don't think you need to read any of the others to understand this one. Katie's Highlander is a humorous romantic travel title. There isn't much to say, the writing was clear, the romance believable and well, nothing else really matters.
Katie's Highlander is simply breathtaking. A good solid historical romance with a strong plot and compelling characters. A+++
First I should say I did enjoy the story and have no regrets having read it. I did however feel that the story needed to be fleshed out a bit more, with more time for the couple together to show them falling in love. I also found that Katie was a little hard to like, as she went off the handle a few times that really didn't warrant that kind of reaction, and at times her character seemed inconsistent. I also kept waiting for something a little "more" to happen once they were in the past. The very ending was also very disconnected from the story - it seemed like there was a little too much info in the beginning that got edited out, thus making some of the discussion confusing and out of place. There were a couple of funny parts to the novel (thank you I love a good lol). Overall, this story was a nice addition to the series, yet there were several areas that could have been more developed IMO. *I received and ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I received a digital copy of his book in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley.
While I have read and appreciated a fair amount of Scottish Highlander-time travel-romances, this one didn't do it for me. I liked Katie's inner monologue a lot for its humor, but the reckless stubbornness, comments about her hero's body, and much too fast conversion of heart made the pacing and the attraction too exaggerated. Likewise, her hero has a one-note 'must protect Mistress Katie' tune, and two gears, depressed and protective, which made him fall flat. I liked the historical tie-in, the setting details, and some of the snappy dialogue, but there are others I've enjoyed reading much more.
I really enjoyed Ramsey and Katie's story!!
Ramsey rescues Katie when she crashes her car, but they are soon swept into a Druid ceremony and Katie is as confused as ever. She needs to get away from this crazy place. She does finally leave, but where she lands wasn't her planned destination...
Ramsay had his heart broken and isn't about to be taken in by a gorgeous stranger, but he soon find himself linked to her for life. As he quickly falls for Katie, can he get her to stay and build a life together?
I really liked this story. I loved that Katie was an archaeologist and knew her history. Although she seemed to freak out more than the other heroines of the series...This was a great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what Greyson comes up with next!
What a great adventure. Can't believe I've missed this author. Talented words, woven worlds and a trip of a lifetime. You can't beat anything else.
I had read the first book in this series and was intrigued by the premise of this one.
I liked Katie and Ramsay well enough. She’s sassy and he’s stoic and together they had a lot of potential. I would have liked to see more of them getting to know each other. Instead, they’re thrown into this weird situation and all of a sudden they’re in love. When it came to feelings and chemistry, it was definitely all tell and no show.
Plot wise, it was quick and slow at the same time. For me, this mostly read like a novella and that’s where the downfall was. Nothing felt fleshed out and while the story moved along, the rhythm was quite clunky and forced.
Overall, it was a quick read that kept me entertained. I definitely feel like there’s more to be known about this situation. If there’s another book, I would be interested.
