This book is about cybersecurity, which is interesting if you think about it. A murder, high level occurs, then another one and the action is on.
Thank you Netgalley for this nice cyber action.
"Cyber Countdown" eBook was published in 2018 and was written by Terence Flynn. This is Mr. Flynn's first publication.
I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence and Mature Situations. The story is set in the near-contemporary US. The primary character is James Jordan, the current Federal Chief Information Officer of the US.
Jordan had been the CEO of the Cyber Security firm VSI but had stepped down when asked to be the Chief Information Officer. Now his former partner at VSI Philip Wu is dead. The resulting investigation reveals that Wu had been doing classified work for the US government.
The US is plagued with cyber attacks coming from China. Among the students behind the attack is a North Korean naval officer Kim Kwon-Mu. Kwon soon realizes that their effort is more than a simple prank to steal US corporate data.
Before long events are pushing the US and China towards war. Will Jordan be able to get to the bottom of things and find a way to avoid the looming conflict?
I thoroughly enjoyed the 10.5 hours I spent reading this 450-page thriller. I liked the level of detail included in the story as well as the plot. I hope to read more "James Jordan" adventures in the future. The chosen cover art is OK. I give this novel a 5 out of 5.

First, thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the Advance Readers Copy of CYBER COUNTDOWN. First, the positives. Plot ideas were quite interesting, with lots of technical detail that I found fascinating. And, the book summary was very well written, enticing me to request and read this book. Now, the negatives: everything else. The characters were one-dimensional, unbelievable, and exceptionally wooden in their dialogue. There was very little sense of suspense or pace to this book, and if I hadn't felt compelled to finish it to provide this review, I would have lasted about 100 pages. In sum, good ideas, poorly executed. Gave it 2 stars, based only on the plot ideas and technical detail. Otherwise, would struggle for 1 star.
This is the story about cyber security between the U.S. and China. Philip Wu who rund VSI is murdered and then Senator Thompson suddenly dies. So many things are going on in the United States and China. Kim has a chance to go to school in Harbin China. He is from North Korea. James, who is Philip's partner and know working for the president of the U.S. has to decide if he needs to return to VSI or stay with the president. The story takes us to what is happening with Kim and his fellow students and what is happening in cyber security in the States. If you want to know what can happen with cyber security being put at risk then you'll enjoy this story.
