A Protector in the Highlands was an easy to read, steamy and swoon worthy romance with strong characters. The main character, Scarlet Worthington, was well written, somewhat sassy and wonderful to read. She is left in charge of running the Highlands Rose school by her sister, and recruits the brooding and mountainous Aiden Campbell to assist her self-defence classes. Watching the friendship and romance bloom between these two characters was amazing. Not only did they grow close romantically but they learned so much about each other they are connected in soul as well.

The plot was fast paced, lots of action and had some surprisingly evil villains. I really felt as if I connected with the characters and could understand them, they were so well written. I loved all the characters and the timeline was easy to understand and follow. A few twists that I expected, but enjoyed all the same. If you love easy to read romances based in Scotland, brooding Scottish heroes or strong leading ladies, I would recommend this book!

When her sister, Evelyn, and her new brother-in-law, Grey Campbell, must take a trip to England, Scarlet Worthington is left in charge of the lady's school she and her sister are establishing at the Campbell stronghold of Finlarig. Second in command Aiden Campbell is left as acting chief of the clan in Grey's absence. When Aiden begins helping Scarlet with self defense lessons for the girls, the two begin to get to know one another. Scarlet is trying to overcome her fears and find herself again, and doesn't quite know what to do with the heat Aiden stirs in her. Aiden, with a deep hatred of Englishwomen, does his best to ignore this spark. The sexual tension and burgeoning emotional connection between these two is inescapable and their relationship begins to develop beyond what either expected. But a surprise, unwanted visit from the king himself and enemies from Scarlet's past, jeopardizes everyone's hopes for the future.

There's so much intrigue and politics going on here and everyone has their own agenda. I was stressing just reading it and I couldn't put this one down after the halfway point or so. I loved it and I think Aiden is one of the best heroes I've read and Scarlet was a great heroine, no simpering miss here, despite her fears. I loved this one and I would highly recommend it.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love Highlander romance. Something about strong, protective Warriors that get me going. Aiden is a lot like that: Scottish, the strong silent type of warrior. He keeps Scarlet safe and helps her learn to protect herself from the unwanted advances of other men. I enjoyed their banter and their easy connection. A decent historical romance.

This is the second book in the Highland Roses series and it was just as good as the first one. This book follows Aiden and Scarlet. We find out what scarlet was running from when she left England. And Aiden is fully recovered from his burns and in charge while the Campbell chief is away. Aiden helps Scarlet heal from what happened to her by teaching her and her students how to defend themselves. This was an exciting story with plenty of steam. It can be read as a stand-alone but I think it works better if you read the first in the series too. I’m hoping for nathanial and cats story next.

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
This novel brings together two people who have pasts with the English, and not in a good way. Lady Scarlet Worthington fled England after discovering the truth about a man she was infatuated with. She helps her sister run a school for ladies, which also teaches them self defense. She needs to find herself after having her confidence destroyed. Aiden Campbell, a Highland warrior, has no love for the English. He was burned and took some time to recover, but now is returning to lead his clan. He is stubborn, but cares for his people. Scarlet and Aiden do not know each other well, but as their attraction to the other grows, they both have a desire to know more about the other. Both are carrying secrets which impact the relationship they are trying to develop with each other. When the King of England makes an unexpected appearance to the Highlands, both Scarlet and Aiden need to confront their pasts. There is a plot afoot...which involves trying to kill the king. Scarlet and Aiden need to discover who is behind this before it destroys the fragile peace they have.
